Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

Yep your right, playing against the best team in the nation is a cakewalk. Get your head out of the ground. If SCSU has the same outlook as you Yale will have no problem in the first round and you wont even get a shot at QU

If the season were to end today, QU would have beaten a total of ZERO teams who would actually be in the tournament. QU may have the best record of any team in the nation, but at this point the jury is still out on if they are (or are not) the best team in the nation.

Yale?

The Q did beat Yale 6-2 on the road last Friday.

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

They don't count - it's another EZAC team. If Alaska-Anchorage was the 3-seed in Providence people out west would say it was a cakewalk for the Seawolves.

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

The top ranked team in the nation should undoubtedly and deservedly be QU. The best team in the nation is Minnesota
While I understand the whole ECAC argument but everyone must face the fact that no matter who your playing, not losing once in 21 games is remarkable. It's special for a small relatively unknown team to be at the top of a sport and while the entire body of work won't mean a thing if they don't win the region you can't convince me they're not the best team in the country. But until everyone realizes that (April 13th is the only day it will be admitted if they get that far) they just have to continue playing their game and the rest will come.

Look, I like Quinnipiac about as much as any non-student or non-alum can. But this is not true. If they played UAH 21 times in a row and won them all it would not be remarkable.

You what is remarkable? Losing to AIC. *Drops mic, walks away*

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

The AIC loss was the best thing to happen to this team. We all know that the team who lost to AIC is not the team they are today. Hockey is much like baseball in the sense that one person can completely win a game by themself (goalie, pitcher) and any team can beat anyone on any given night, and I know your eagles have experienced that this year too. That being said to take withstand two fantastic goalkeeping performances (Brown, UCONN) and to still have the streak intact is impressive and I know you know that deep down.

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

So in Quinnipiac's 21 game unbeaten streak only two opposing goalies have played well. And we are all supposed to be impressed by this streak?

They swept Nebraska-Omaha who can still reach the tournament with a run down the stretch and in the WCHA playoffs.

To both of these I say:

Like I said, I really, really like the Q. I want them to succeed this year more than any school other than BC. But, really, beating the teams you're supposed to beat regularly is very different from being able to confidently beat the teams at the top.

Let's all take a breath here.

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

When I look at QU, it reminds me of that St. Joseph's basketball team that went undefeated in the regular season, but people were debating how good they were because of their schedule. I'm curious to see what happens when they face an increase in the level of competition like they would in the NCAA tournament.

Wasn't it just last season that the same thing was being said about FSU and Union, two schools with precious little NCAA success to hang their hats on, yet both managed - however could THAT have happened? - to advance all the way to Tampa, where neither one looked like they didn't belong. There's no way of knowing - yet - whether the Bobcats will do the same, but I'm willing to give 'em the benefit of the doubt just now. They haven't lost in over 3 *months*, and even if some self-described 'experts' equate that to repeatedly thrashing the Skating Little Sisters of the Poor, that's still an impressive feat in my book ...

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

No change to the brackets after today's action, but the TUC line has changed.

Code:
29	Holy Cross	0.5045
30	Robert Morris	0.5011
31	Colo Coll	0.5003

	UMass	0.4963
	Brown	0.4954

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

I was wondering, I know there's still a lot of hockey to play, but what are the prospects of a team like NMU who is close to or on the bubble?

They haven't had the greatest of seasons so far, but currently they are 18 in the PWR, but their TUC% is 16. Here are NMU's records against current TUC teams:

Miami: 1-1-2
WMU: 0-2-0
SCSU: 2-0-0
ND: 0-2-0
UA_: 1-2-1
UNO: 1-1-0
UW: 2-0-0
FSU: 1-1-0
OSU: 2-2-0
Total: 10-11-3

Beside winning as many games as they can the rest of the regular season and during the CCHA playoffs, who does NMU want to do well the rest of the way of the nine teams listed above? Just the ones they've beaten or tied or all of them? I realize the PWR could change immensely over the next six weeks or so, but as an NMU fan who should I be pulling for or looking out for?

They wouldn't be playing Minnesota?

The team you don't want to fall out of being a TUC is Wisconsin since you swept them. OSU, FSU, and UNO are meh, since losing them doesn't much change your TUC record. The team that NMU needs to be careful of is LSSU, as they swept NMU earlier in the season and have 2 more games H2H to finish off the regular season.

A complete melt down my ND would help, because the only way to flip that comparison given the 2 H2H losses without beating them in the playoffs is to win all three of the other comparisons.

As long as your win % vs TUCs is under .500 (10-11-3 .479), you want to keep those teams you split with. Lose that 2-2-0 vs Ohio State and you drop to 8-9-3 .475. Lose Ferris and you drop to .472, add UNO and you're down to .469.

Re: Pairwise and Bracketology 2013 Edition

Having seen QU three times in person this year and watched the Minn. St. Cloud series this weekend on the tube, I would say that the two WCHA teams are better at forward and defense. The difference maker for QU is Hartzell, the kid is a good pro goalie already. QU deserves the one spot on record alone, but record alone does not equate to the best team. Gonna be a great end to the season.
