Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

Re: Packers 2010 Regular Season - ARodg and Woody in Clay-mation

Good teams also find a way to keep games close when they aren't at their best.

So that would apply to the Mike Sherman era?

Since he was the GM, and horrible by almost everyone' opinion...meaning he had bad talent. His winning percentage was 0.594 and 16-16 in games decided by 5 points or less. Conversely, McFatty has had better talent due to the genius of Ted Thompson and has a 0.590 winning percentage and 5-16 in games decided by 5 points or less.

Wonderful news, I will be attending my first game at lambeau in 13 years this Sunday so I am very happy to hear Rodgers is playing :)

That was awesome, so happy to have finally attended another game at Lambeau, and what a game to pick for my return :D That play action slant to Nelson for the 80 yard TD was priceless, I saw it as it was developing and yelled to my buddy, "He's Open! Hit him in stride and he's gonna score" and he did :)

Glad you could enjoy Shirtless. I was around the stadium beforehand but didn't end up going.

I'll be interested to see how the Bears approach this game. Atlanta should have Carolina buried a good 90 minutes before the kickoff of our game, so it will be interesting to see what approach Lovie takes. I was kind of hoping it would have meaning to them. I wanted to see them kick the **** out of the Bears without the excuse.

Not sure if I'll be able to get into the game, but I'm definitely going to be soaking in the tailgating scene at Lambeau this weekend.

**** the Bears.

Matt Flynn should be starting. That was a dreadful offensive performance.

:p

What was up with FOX harping on the Giants score? Tampa had already won, so it's not like the Giants game mattered one bit to the Packers.

Anyways, on to the playoffs. A little nervous that people seem to be picking Green Bay, I would have liked to be more of the underdog.

Though as soon as I say that, I see a rant on another board talking about how Cowherd was ripping Green Bay this morning. Good good good.

I think MM is totally nuts when he does the empty backfield on 1st and 10. You are just telegraphing what you are going to do to everyone. The DL don't have to repsect the run for that second while the rb is back there, they can just pin their ears back, which da bears did.

I think in general MM needs to focus more on execution and less on trying to create matchup problems.

Once the game starts though isn't it his job to create matchup problems so that the players can execute? He can't go out there himself and make plays or tackle someone. Only Jets' coaches do that.

Ex: Everyone is whining about the play call on 2nd down from the 1. Quite frankly, the play worked. Well, until Rodgers failed to execute it properly and threw it low, but if the players had executed Jackson walks in. I fail to see how poor execution by Rodgers in that instance leads to everyone all in a tizzy over McCarthy.

I can't argue with you for that play, I completely agree that Jackson walks in if its executed. First down was a horrible call. The reason the packers didn't score more is because players dropped passes and failed to execute at key times. They did end up executing often enough to get the win...because their defense is ridiculous.

I didn't mind the creative 2nd and goal play either. Had he thrown it to Jackson's gut it probably scores. My beef with McCarthy at the goal line is not putting Kuhn as the halfback in the I with Quinn Johnson in front of him. He didn't do it against NE early in the 4th quarter and they settled for a FG. He didn't do it in the 3rd quarter against the Bears and they settled for a FG. He did it on 1st down in the 4th quarter and the Bears crashed it so hard Rodgers made an easy toss to a very lonely Donald Lee. It's just their best chance whether they actually hand it off or make the opponent respect the hand off enough to run play action.

I still have a hard time believing they made the playoffs with the injury list they have. I know folks who drink the #4 Kool Aid will never like Ted Thompson, but he and his staff found guys nobody else wanted who came up huge yesterday. Peprah was their 4th choice at Safety opposite Collins behind Burnett, Peprah, and Martin and he makes a big pick to take sure points off the board for the Bears. Walden was the 4th choice at OLB opposite Matthews behind Jones, Poppinga, and Zombo. He had double digit tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Something to chew on for all of the haters out there:
The Packers had the ninth most difficult schedule [.520] based on final 2010 standings and the most difficult of any team that made the playoffs.

I'm a fan of a simple plan executed well, rather than a complex plan executed poorly. A few examples...back in the hayday of Ahman Green, everyone knew he was getting the ball, but the execution on the plays was surpurb. Sure, teams had to worry about Brett going over the top, but when they had leads, they still could run the ball very well. UW football in the Dayne era is another great example of execution. Everyone knews what's coming, yet he was almost unstoppable. So was Dallas and the Aikman years. There was no concern about creating match-ups. My guys are going to beat your guys, that's the plan. All these complex sub packages MM uses are crazy (and other teams as well). All that takes time on the practice field; less plays to practice would equal more practice on less plays, which should in turn equal better execution. Just my .02 worth.
