Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close 1st

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

Back home from LP. Tough game, hats off to Wisconsin EC, they played a great game. I'm thinking the Laker loss is 10% officiating (not really that bad), 20% the Norwich hangover, and 70% getting outplayed by a faster, tougher team. Not necessarily more talented, but a lot faster and tougher. They disrupted our flow and passing, blocked shots, and hustled around us. They were the better team on the ice. Almost a replay of of last years game, the Western team outplayed us.

But still a great season- two thirds of the objective met. Winning the SUNYAC, beating Norwich, making it to the finals. I'm sure the team is dissapointed and will be for a while, but the glass is still 2/3 full.
Agree. they out skated us and were a tougher team,we had/have the talent and I think its that in your face/St Norbert like game that they/out west play.perhaps we needed to be more ready for that style?? Dont know how you would prepare for it either, kind of like the Nj Devils when they played that trap. On to next season

Apologies if this has been discussed already, but what a classy move by the Oswego players and coach Gosek to make it a point to shake the hand and thank EVERY Oswego student media representative in the postgame press conference following Saturday's championship game.

That's good stuff right there and speaks to the connection between the team and the student media and population as a whole. Maybe that's why 1000 kids pack the Campus Center every night for Laker home games and the kids actually travel to go see the games while other schools can't seem to draw the students...

Good season Oswego. Stopped by Wise Guys Saturday before the game for a few pops with the faithful to wish them well. Nice to meet some of you guys. We were pulling for you to win it all and I thought you had a shot after scoring the 1st 2. Not to be I guess. All hail the west is what it's starting to look like. Both wins for WEC looked the same to me, except for the scores. WEC just didn't get rattled when they were down and keep playing their game plan no matter what. Very strong team with a great goalie. On to next year. Looking forward to the UC / Oswego games (if they're playing each other?). Have a good summer everyone. Benny out.

Before this thread goes dormant I need to give a shout out to Matt Singleton's play and hustle in the Norwich game. The man was on fire.

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

I can't believe it's the off season and we have almost a whole new team coming in. Congrats to our outgoing senior class. Hellova season and four years that are second to none. I am proud of you guys and all you accomplished.

Saturday just didn't seem to be our night. The energy just seemed to be lacking from the atmosphere of Friday's BIG game. Everyone was waiting for that Wick v. Wego game for the last four years and boy did we get a game. We put pressure on their goalie all night and he made some great saves, but as I thought going in he was used to having great D that protected him all year and probably saved him from facing another 10 shots on Friday. Wick hadn't seen that much pressure all year and IMO it was the difference in the game. We took it to them and other than a lightning strike in about 20 seconds and a home run pass to a SPEEDING Thomas we were in control of much of the game with a significant % being played in the Wick end of the ice. It just seemed we wanted so bad to prove we were the best team in the east. Maybe we forgot they play hockey out west too.

Take nothing away from W-EC, they played hard and fast, got away with as much physicality as they could and took us off our game. They won most of the 50/50 pucks and had the hockey gods smile with that bounce on the 2nd goal and P-Rod not getting any lift on the shot over the glove into the open net. Still w/o rehashing it all, it really was a good game that could have been a completely different outcome if for a couple different bounces. I hope we are at the stage where we reload instead of rebuild. Eddie has numbers that should speak for them selves as he recruits into that beautiful new modern barn. In 10 yrs. 200+ wins a NC, 2 runners up, 5 frozen fours and 7 reg season conference champs. The only thing below this standard is the 2 conference tourney champs thanks to our Platty friends. Even that is much more closely contested than previously, and can now truly be thought of as more of a rivalry than the numbers historically suggest.

So I hope we can get some speed that can stick handle and bury the puck, some size that can move and not give up the blue line too easily. I hope we get about 14 more gifts to help ease the pain of losing such a fine senior class.

I hope all of you find more success after college and as much joy in your lives as you brought to a sleepy little town on the water. One that has it's hopes resting on the capable shoulders of a GREAT Laker hockey team to give us a little light on those dark winter weekend nights.

Thanks Class of '13. You will be missed but always remembered.

Probably my favorite memory of a game when I was a student didn't even happen at Oswego. It was the finale of the 2007-2008 season. SUNYAC Championship game in Plattsburgh. Oswego takes a tough loss after an incredible game. The Oswego section starts chanting Ryan Scott..Ryan Scott.. Ryan Scott. Just an incredible atmosphere at that game, and it wasn't even at Oswego or even an Oswego win.

Agreed. I was also there that night and you aren't kidding on a phenomenal atmosphere. IIRC this was the final Oswego/Plattsburgh game before they renovated Stafford. That game was awesome.

Not the game I saw- we got outplayed. I was hoping it could have been a "but for a couple of bounces" game, but it wasn't.

Well said and I would say one of my favorite Great Laker teams would be the 2012-13 Edition. Good luck seniors!

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

We were on the other side of the rink so we didn't see what happened, but what went on behind the W-EC bench in the finals that brought in three troopers and caused the first row of seats to get taped off?

Yeah I was going to ask this as well, I missed it because I was getting a hot dog. Were they heckling EC and the coaches complained?

I heard that the coach was swearing so much that a press person nearby complained. The action by the troopers was to just move the spectators away from that area.

The Oswego newspaper, the The Palladium-Times, ran a letter to the editor today from a couple of Norwich fans who are very critical of the "very rude, crude and disruptive" Oswego fans who were "ejected (and physically removed by NY State Police) from the arena" and that that is why security was called in to clear out the seats behind the EauClair bench.

Here's a link to it but most of it is behind a pay wall:

I wasn't there but the writers clearly had a much different perspective on whatever happened.

I've stood behind the UWEC bench at some home games and I was going to say that doesn't sound like the Coaches I've watched at the games I've been to (swearing etc). Yea I've listened to the players swear in the heat of battle / the moment, but the coaches never swore that I recall.

I sat pretty much in between the Oswego and UWEC benches on Staturday about three rows back. I honestly did not see what happened near the end to get people removed because I rarely pay any attention to what goes on in the stands. I will say that one assistant coach on UWEC was going way overboard with some of the crap he was saying none of which I will repeat on here. The head coach was top class as were the players for the most part but the one assistant was a clown and I am told that he was the one that got the fans ire up behind the bench.

Can someone post the article or send me an email with what was said because I'd be very curious to see what written.
