Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close 1st

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

we should all be rooting for Geneseo this week, if they beat out Plattsburgh and make it to the SUNYAC finals I'm willing to bet they'll get ranked, would give us 2 more wins against ranked teams. hopefully 3 if we beat them in the finals, that would raise our rankings and give us better seeding in the NCAAs

That would be ideal. Then again, just for morale, it would be kinda nice to face Plattsburgh again in the finals. A win there would be a win against a ranked team which can't hurt. As for Geneseo, we can hope that Plymouth State and Middlebury lose games to make room in the rankings for Geneseo. We'll see.

I'll take 2, possibly 3 wins against a possibly ranked Genny rather than a morale boost and 1 win over a ranked Plattsburgh (IF they can beat them). It really doesn't matter at this point. I'm half rooting for Potsdam tonight because I would rather face them Saturday. But having Genny win and be possibly ranked would be nice too.

The bottom line is they just need to win, no matter who the opponent is.

Talking to some of the guys, they seem to be of the same attitude. Yeah, they're talking about the math of who would need to win and lose in order for them to get a bid, but they understand that in the end, they just need to win. Genny in the finals would probably be a plus simply because it would get them ranked plus it would probably be an easier game than Platty. But in the end, you just gotta win.

Only chance the Bengals have is for Kevin Carr to absolutely stand on his head. Buff can hang for awhile and I think that's their gameplan. I watched the first meeting at CC and they were in it till the end. I'm a little more worried about my Cards facing Geneseo who I view as a better all-around team than Buffalo. Good luck!

agree Carr is a top goalie and can steal the game for sure, not to sure about the rest of the team, but they will be riding high after a nice 6-0 win, lets hope we come out flyin and burry a few to get them down,if we let them stay in the game and their goalie is hot, buckle up will be a wild ending...note ,in the game at the CC,a 5-4 oz win,Buff scored all 4 goals on the PP, then in buff we blanked them, maybe they like the CC ice for the PP,we had better shutem down in our house on the PP

Lakers need to bring it early, keep up the pressure and stay out of the #&%*^ box...

Oswego with five penalties = 4-0 score @ Buff State. Oswego filled the score sheet with penalties the first time they met, and Buffalo jumped up 2-0 in the first period on the PP, and ended up with 4 PP goals total!

Indeed penalties are going to be key. If Oswego can avoid going to the box and giving up 5x3 power plays they should have this game in the bag. It's notable that in the entire history of Buff State's program (since 1993) they have never managed to beat Oswego before ever. There are 4 ties in team history against Oswego, but there's no ties in the playoffs. But you can't rely completely on records from completely different teams with different coaches. Buff State has had a record above .500 for 3 years running now and should not be overlooked.

It will take Carr pulling in another great performance (he didn't do bad against Oswego during their last two outings) and Buff State's scorers to get some lucky bounces. Also, never discount the possibility of Hare having a bad game. Every once in awhile when the pressure gets high, he's been known to drop one. The guys have to be careful not to look past Buff State when looking for their path to the SUNYAC final. Plattsburgh made that mistake last year and went to triple OT with buff state before finally moving on. The boys have to get it done in the first period, calm the storms during the second period, and ride out a solid 2+ goal lead through the third period. Remember a win is a win, it doesn't need to look pretty. Above all else, just win.

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

Some great game notes ahead of tomorrow's game, thanks to the athletic department:

HEAD-TO-HEAD
- Oswego State swept the season series against Buffalo State with a 5-4 win at the Campus Center Arena in November and a 4-0 win at Buffalo two weeks ago.
- The Lakers own an all-time record of 32-0-4 over the Bengals . Buffalo State's most recent tie came on February 8, 2002 in a 5-5 decision at Buffalo.
- Saturday's game is the first post-season meeting between the two programs.

TEAM RECORDS
- Both squads have been shut out once this season. Oswego State was shut out in a 6-0 loss at Utica, while Buffalo State's lone shutout was in the 4-0 loss to the Lakers.
- The Bengals are 0-5-1 against the remaining SUNYAC playoff teams, Oswego State is 4-2-0.
- The Lakers are 6-3-0 in games decided by two goals or less, while the Bengals are 6-9-0.
- Oswego State is 12-2-0 at home this season and 17-1-0 when scoring the first goal.
- Buffalo State is 4-8-0 on the road this year and 11-3-2 when putting the first goal on the scoreboard.
- The Lakers are 15-0-0 when leading after the first period and 20-0-0 when leading after two frames.
- Oswego State likes to get out to a fast start, as it has out-scored its opponents 52-21 in the first period.
- Fifteen of the Lakers' 21 wins have been by three goals or more, while seven of Buffalo State's 13 wins have also been by three goals or more.

STATISTICAL BREAKDOWN
- Oswego State's Paul Rodrigues won the conference scoring title with 25 points on five goals and 20 assists to earn First Team All-SUNYAC recognition.
- Five other Lakers received league honors, including first-team picks Luke Moodie and Zach Josepher, second-team honoree Chris Brown and third-team selections Jesse McConney and Andrew Hare.
- Buffalo State's Mike Zannella and Kevin Carr were Second Team All-SUNYAC picks this season.
- The Bengals are led offensively by sophomore Nick Melligan, who has posted 30 points on 13 goals and 17 assists this season.
- The Lakers were first in the SUNYAC in scoring (5.00) and ranked second in goals allowed (1.69).
- Buffalo State ranked fourth in the conference in scoring (3.12) and were fifth in goals allowed (3.00).
- Oswego State has killed 85.7 percent of its penalties and scored on 31.9 percent of its power plays during league play. Both rank second in the conference.
- The Bengals are the third-most penalized team in the SUNYAC, averaging 14.9 penalty minutes per contest. Their penalty-kill unit finished ninth at 72.2 percent, while the power-play unit ranked fifth at 20.9 percent.
- Oswego State's Bobby Gertsakis is one of the hottest players in the country right now having scored five goals in the last four games. His streak started against Buffalo State on February 8 with his first collegiate goal midway through the second period on a power play.
- The projected goalie match-ups pit two of the conference's best netminders against each other. Bengal Kevin Carr has been an all-conference honoree for three seasons, while Laker Andrew Hare has been an All-SUNYAC pick the past two.

Here's the tale of the tape: Oswego State - Andrew Hare - 17-4-0, .931%, 1.81 GAA
Buffalo State - Kevin Carr - 13-11-2, .922%, 2.47 GAA

Would I be the only one feeling better if Gilbert led them out tomorrow night?
