Anyone want to take a shot at who Eddie will name as Captains?

I also think they were announced already, but maybe not.

They are usually announced during team meetings in April or May after the season has concluded.

But, here's my guesses anyways.

Chris Laganiere (C)
Stephen Mallaro (A)
Jon Whitelaw (A)

EDIT: Also, I think the players vote on it...but I could be wrong.

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

I agree with you with Lags wearing the "C" and have said so earlier but Whitelaw is a good choice too. If Lags wears the C will he still be with Fox. Fox seemed to loose intress and become selfish in the last half of the year. Good or Bad Selleck won't be here to deal with for he was just like Fox in the 2nd half. I guess the question for this year will be who will be on the first and second line. Will Whitelaw get bumped up for that would make a great line. 2 of the hardest workers in D3 on the same line. Could = many goals. Also who will step up on the Defensive side. Unfortunately for Oswego they have not had a hard time putting the puck in the net but keeping it out. Goal is good with Beckwith and it should be his unless he gets sick for I think he is just as good as GT was.

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

I'll guess Mallaro gets the C with Laganiere and Huinink getting As.

random line guesses:

Fox/Laganiere/Leimbrock (2 of the 3 guys on the big line last year along with the lone top line guy left)
Whitelaw/Moodie/Rodrigues (same line as last year)
Domenico/Titanic/Badham (3 new forwards a la the guys above last season)
Mather/Singelton/Kelly (made up a nice 4th line toward the end of the year and playoffs)

then you got Boots, Ayotte, Hall, Muise, and Brown (and I'm not even going to speculate on the defense) so who knows what Gosek will do, but it's sure fun to guess.

I would not be surprised to see Andrew Mather get a letter. I remember a former "A" telling me that Mather had the potential to be captain by his senior year.

after what i saw the last half or the season, potsdam/platts weekend, that Kelly kid can flat out play, back and fourth, would love to have a bunch of guys like him on my team......

What do you think of Kelly playing with Lags? 2 great kids who are very unselfish and great team players. Could be just a great line with Fox. Fox's effort fell off in the second half but you gotta give him credit he can put the puck in the net.

Wasn't Fox one of the guys playing with a shoulder injury at the end of the year?

Anyways, I think Andrew Mather is undervalued by the fan base. His freshman year he looked **** good on the first line after Christmas. Personally, I'd like to see the lines toyed with like this:

Whitelaw-Fox-Lags
Mather-Leimbrock-Rodrigues
Domenico-Moodie-Kelly
???-Singleton-???

Mather and Leimbrock are first PKers. Moodie and Kelly are second.

Also, defensively, if I'm not mistaken Anderson will be back? Two years ago when he was paired with HVB there was a ton of physicality and puck moving from the back end. Between Mallaro, Huinink, Gilchrist, HVB, Anderson, McConney, the transfer Carr, there's a lot to like about the defense.

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

Ian Boots has the potential to bring what Donnie Patrick brought to the table when he transferred. Boots can score!!!

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

I'm sure the announcers are hoping for Whitelaw and Titanic to be together. White Star Line :D

Any word on the choices for captain?

im with ya on that, I think he will do well on any line that needs a hustler and a gogetter, also think he will produce more pts this yr..

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

So, what are the thoughts on the Goaltending this year? I feel very confident with what I saw from Beckwith, but a lot of folks on here seem to be unconvinced. Any thoughts? Rants? Other?

To be honest, it seems to just be me with concerns about Beckwith's viability as a season-long #1. And it's not that I don't think he's a top-quality goaltender, it's just that I'm not confident he can stay healthy season-long. He hasn't done so yet. For the sake of the conference and healthy competition, I do hope I'm wrong.

I don't think you can say that Bechwith wasn't healthy last year. He got sick with a virus I beleive and KGT got hot and stayed in net. This was the Tom Brady like situation with Patriots. I have heard scouts at the laker games say that they liked Beckwith's game better the KGT's. It's the law in Hockey that you stay with the hot goal tender. I think the laker goal situation will be OK . If the #1 goal is healthy they go far, it is what happens when he gets hurt. The lakers and cards were very fortunate last year to have 2 really good goalies on the teams so that having the #1 goal go down wasn't a big issue.

as convenient as that'd be, I don't see Gosek breaking up the Whitelaw/Rodrigues/Moodie line - they seemed to have such great chemistry last year and they're all the same age.
