Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

I have a feeling Owen Kelly is gonna have a very very good season, and will be very important in the team's success this year.
gotta agree, I thought he was one of the best player on the team the second half of the season, guys like that with his hustle and hardwork can spread to other players who dont work as hard......

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

Kelly was a huge factor in the SUNYAC Final. Attitude's like Kelly's do rub off on players. Hitting and hustle are contagious.

Just looking at the recruit lists (mind you, Plattsburgh still has 1 more that I don't have a name on yet), I'd say Oswego has pulled in a slightly better freshman class...

But Oz lost a LOT, with Selleck, Musselwhite, KGT, and others. Those are going to be hard skates to fill.

Plattsburgh lost 3 to graduation, and Rossy will not be with the team (which is a non-loss, really). The still have their top 2 offensive threats, their top 2 goaltenders, and a solid defense even without looking at the recruits.

So, although I will concede that Oswego's recruiting class probably edges Plattsburgh's by a little bit (and not having seen these guys play, it's probably too close to call it)... in terms of losses compared to gains, I'd have to say Plattsburgh is the clear winner here.

But I'm a Plattsburgh fan, and so I can't enter a Plattsburgh/Oswego discussion without acknowledging the presence of a bit of Homerism in my opinions. :o

EDIT: Let me make it clear, these two will undoubtedly be the top 2 in the SUNYAC, barring any huge underdog performances, and will probably both be at least top 10, if not top 5, come tourny time, and I'd be willing to put money down to say that both will make the NCAA tournament.

I too, sir, would gladly cast my lot beside yours on such an occasion occurring this year - after seeing the way both clubs handled themselves right up to Placid, the youth with amazing talent now have the temperament and experience to do it again, along with excellent new recruitment to pick up right where we had left off, in terms of both clubs.

Oswego has lost considerably in terms of the powerful likes of their vets, but last year was proof positive that a senior exodus (in that case, a massive one) does not mean a rebuilding season is 100% likely, and I bet the same was true with the Cards last year too. There will always be new leaders ready to emerge, ready to take these teams to great success again, beyond last year even... which is something I think both PSU and OSUers would absolutely love (or hate) to see:D .

My Lord, can this season get started already:mad: ?

I didnt see it on here, but the Brockport assistant coach was named assistant at Oswego. He is a native of Fulton, caught it on a facebook update.

Mark Digby Hired As Men's Ice Hockey Assistant Coach
The Oswego State Athletic Department announced today that Mark Digby has accepted the position of assistant men’s ice hockey coach. Digby, an assistant coach at Brockport for the previous four seasons, fills the position vacated by Dan Ford, who resigned in order to pursue personal business ventures.

While at Brockport, Digby worked directly with Golden Eagle defensive and power-play units that saw statistical improvements and developed in-season and summer strength and conditioning programs. The G. Ray Bodley High School (Fulton, N.Y.) graduate aided the development of practice plans through the analysis of game and practice video footage. He created successful marketing strategies to attract fans to Brockport ice hockey games. Digby has also served as the advertising coordinator for the Brockport Athletic Department since 2008.

During the off-season, Digby has worked as an instructor at the Hamilton College Hockey School for three summers and the Maksymum Hockey School in Rochester for five summers.

Digby received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from The College at Brockport in May 2005 and earned his Master of Science degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies four years later.

Oswego athletics added a couple of coaching positions and made a couple full time (namely lacrosse). I think this is Ford's though.

Edit: I need to read the press release first next time.

Tough loss. Ford was a good coach and did a lot of good things for the program to help alleviate some of the burden off Eddie's shoulders running the whole operation by himself for a half a season plus.

...but it's not like the new coach has never coached in the SUNYAC or been an assistant. I'm sure Eddie would not have hired him unless he could step right in and fill Ford's shoes in all aspects of the job.

Re: Oswego State 2010 Off-Season Thread: "Say it Ain't so Neil"

As per the Oswego web site For the new season on January 29 the Oswego women play at 3PM and the men to follow the same day at 7PM in Plattsburgh

You're probably right.:)

$98 for season tickets to Women's Hockey  - if they trying for equality, at least charge the same $105, anything else is an insult :(

Apparently they are still satisfied with the amount of money they are bringing in vs crowd size because this is now the fifth season they have charged $100for season tickets to women's game when nearly every other D-III women's team is free to watch regular season games.

If you think about it, 95% of the people that come to watch the Oswego women are either students or parents. Parents will pay anything within reason to watch their kids play. (They might even get in free as well since I think players get 2-4 free tickets to every game.)

Also, the students get in free as well with student ID so 95 percent of your crowd isn't paying anyway.

To me sounds like just a ploy to scrape together a few more bucks to help offset costs of running an athletic program.

15 home games * $7 = $105 for the men

14 home games * $7 = $98 for the women

How dare they schedule an extra home game for the men:rolleyes: :p
