Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

To continue on this replacement theme, it happens all the time that something happens to the starter, and the backup just doesn't want to give up the job. Look at Henrik Lundqvist and Kevin Weeks, Weeks was set to start for the Rangers, and then he got sick, Hank stepped in and hasn't left since.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I was on hand at the game against Cortland and Beckwith was dressed, But KGT has been playing really well. I mean KGT beat Plattsburgh something that haddent happened since February 2006. And seeing how he hasn't lost this year the job may be his to lose now.

I think the Lakers would have won with either goalie at Plattsburgh. The goalie doesn't score the goals he just keeps the team in the game. Look at the 2nd Elmira game, Beckwith stopped 42 shots and still had to take the loss because there weren't enough goals scored. Wins and losses are more of a team stat rather than a goalies stat. Why pin losses on the goalie when the rest of the team decides to take a break.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

While we're on the topic of goalies, what's the deal on their freshman Dan Jones? Where's he from, how did he do with his former team, how has he looked in practice, is he the next Matt Wolf?

I wouldn't give him the Matt Wolf tag, he did well in his Jr. league. Like you said he is a freshman and right now he is behind 2 quality tenders. Gosek may give him a chance in an upcoming game but unfortunately, the way D3 works, you just don't play enough games to have a good look at your new players.

According to hockeydb.com his stats for the 2008-2009 season with the Markham Waxers are:

33 GP, 1724 mins, 21-5-1 record, 90.9 sv %, 3.30 GAA

The GAA jumps out at me considering the wins and close to a 91 Sv%. I guess his team really didn't like to play defense.

..but they apparently could generate some offense.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I just have a gut feeling Beckwith with start Saturday... can't really explain it, I just think Gosek wants to find room for both guys the rest of the way.

...just to keep this thread up, I wouldn't bet on it. He will probably stay with KGT until he s**ts the bed. Not fair to Beckwith who was playing better then last years start.

Don't f---with a streak.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Don't f---with a streak.

Or the board-friendly way to put it: Stick with the hot hand.

Offense will have their hands full tonight dealing with the Little Ponies goalie who apparently isn't fazed by seeing a lot of shots. Don't let these guys hang around or else bad things can happen... Like last year.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

If this team can learn to stay out of the penalty box, we might actually be on to something here...

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

What a night for multi-point performances

Laganiere - 4
Selleck - 3
Fox - 3
Whitelaw - 2
Dormiedy - 2
Musselwhite -2

After giving quite the scare after the first, to have 6 players with 2 or more points and one with a hat trick, against Relkoff who has been touted as one of the best goal tenders in the SUNYAC is quite the turn around. Whatever Gosek said to them during that first intermission, it sure had one hell of an effect.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

In regards to Dan Jones, I'm sure he will get a shot, at some point at least. This year, with how well KGT and Paulie have been playing his time will certainly be limited this year. Next year (etc) I'm sure he will see more time after KGT graduates. He was impressive for the period he was on the ice for the RMC game. Yes he gave up a goal but so did the other two, and you can attribute that to nerves.

Plattsburgh outshot oswego badly in that game, if their goalie only gives up a couple goals on the 19 (or so?) shots, then plattsburgh doesn't lose the game.

It's not like the team 'took a break' and got beat all over the ice.

13 shots...9 saves.....to 34 for Plattsburgh...but the shot clock is way off anyways...

Oswego did have some positive moments in the game and Plattsburgh blocked a lot of shots...It will be interesting at the Campus Center...if one of these goalies steps up and becomes a solid #1. Plattsburgh has yet to play a game with all of their starters....and probably won't for some time with the suspensions. Coming away from the Western NY trip outscoring the opponents 17-2.....I can only imagine what this team will become full power..

Oswego only gave up 2 goals as well. I don't know how you can say Plattsburgh doesn't lose that game if their goalie only gives up 2 or 3 with the way that Kyle Gunn-Taylor stood on his head that night. I'm not saying Plattsburgh wouldn't have won because that is certainly a possibility, but I don't think it was a forgone conclusion they wouldn't have lost the game.

How many guys are out exactly? I saw a couple of guys missed this weekend in the Plattsburgh thread, but I keep hearing about the suspensions and how the team hasn't played their best lineup yet. any news on when they'll be back and what exactly happened?

No idea...if ever.....

Kudroch, Corry, Rossy, and Docking all come to mind. VanDermale was out Saturday due to a dirty hit the night before...Sliasis's return has been great. Schlueter and Breslin sat out Friday nights game due to a team suspension.

I have not heard what, who, where ect....all I know is it was team rules and they are out indefinitely (if ever again).

And I agree about the game, but it would have been something if Leis could have stopped a few. Just when Plattsburgh gets flying, Laker goal. That 3rd goal with .3 seconds was BRUTAL. Give em credit, they finished the few chances they got and KGT stood on his head. Another reason come Jan it will be VERY interesting. While the scoreboard showed different, I am not sure if the better team won. (but isn't how its been for a few years now)

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I got a ballot for the D-III women's poll...So I think they are doing polls again. It'd be good to do one this week anyway with the NESCAC teams finally starting up.
