Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!
I had completely forgot about Plattsburgh's conference championship game appearance last night while watching that overtime. Good call on that. So close to it ending abruptly in a SUNYAC play-in game. I wonder if that stat made it into Emery's intermission speech about not being the first team in X years to not make it to the conference finals....
The fact that the Morrisville game meant nothing in the standings or NCAA purposes had more to do with Oswego losing than the fact that Morrisville is a so called lesser opponent. I think they will be ready for Fredonia, because they know Meredith will have his team ready to play and the last meeting between the two went into overtime. It is all on the line now and they just have a second or third gear that not many teams that aren't named Plattsburgh can match. The possibility is always there for Friesen to get hot and steal the show in which case a loss wouldn't be due to a lack of effort.
I have to question whether Geneseo will be mentally ready for a Plattsburgh team that has made 20 or so straight trips to the SUNYAC finals especially after the shellacking they took against Oswego. They totally fell apart under the Oswego onslaught and Rubeniuk tried to pull himself after the last goal and they left him in. To me they looked physically and emotionally shot after that game and while a week is plenty of time to rest physically it is also plenty of time dig a deeper hole mentally. Plattsburgh knows how to win in the playoffs and are coming off a huge win while Genny's last action was giving up six goals in one period, I would have to tip the odds in Platty's favor.
On paper it looks like another Oswego/Plattsburgh final, but as they say they don't play the games on paper.
