Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Well I really don't know where to start. Boots, Rodrigues, Beckwith, Kelly and Bremner really played well and Muise, Moodie and Titanic were solid, the rest not so much.

Boots was a man without a team when his line was on the ice, Fredonia backed him in a corner and Lags and Fox did nothing to help him out. Fox took a knee in the first period so I will give him a bit of a break on that as he was clearly not 100%.

Moodie, Whitelaw and Rodrigues created a lot of chances offensively and scored Oswego's goal and nearly got the winner in OT when Moodied knocked one out of the air off the post.

Muise and Titanic created some good chances and Muise almost got an OT winner, Mather brought that line down a ton by making some really bad passes and missing a couple of WIDE OPEN chances.

Bremner and Kelly played hard as usual, Singleton played the worst game I have seen him play. He missed a glorious WIDE OPEN net on a rush in the second period after a great piece of work by Rodrigues to get him the puck.

Beckwith was right on the money, the goals were a crap deflection off an Oswego stick on a Power Play and a wide open chance by a red hot Ben Waldman.

Oswego was terrible away from the puck. They were never in good posisition for rebounds, there was almost no fore check and they never tie anyone up in front of the net. Fredonia ties up people when there is a loose puck and they blocked a lot of shots.

Friesen played well but Oswego made him look like a hero with a lot of shots right into him and a bunch of misses on WIDE OPEN chances.

All of the intensity from last week was gone, the unselfishness from last week was gone. They didn't adjust at all to Fredonia's trap and the skated like they were on cat litter. They didn't shoot from the point enough and tried to force it down low too much, pretty much the same story as most of the games this season.

Our conclusion then...cranking a few more on net, crashing the net, and muscling towards the net would be optimal. Those wide open chances didn't click sometimes, but there were countless times when one more player around the crease would have been the difference maker. Rebounds come...and nothing else.

So now what? Do we expect a similiar gameplay for the Lakers in 2 weeks as after the Morrisville debacle (punish BPort/Genny), or is this the sign of the end times approaching?

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

At this point, it is any ones guess which Oswego team will show up, Jekyll or Hyde. I would like to hope they will take their second chance and make the most of it like the '07 team did but I just don't know if they have it in them to take it all the way.

You are right about the rebounds, three straight rushes in the third saw Friesen drop a glove save in the slot and not one Laker was anywhere near the net to put it in. On the scramble when Moodie almost scored in OT, same thing it was there and Whitelaw just stood there and looked at it.

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Luke Moodie's goal for the lone Lakers was one I couldn't fathom going in. Banking the shot off a player to go in was about the most creative thing that happened all night for the Lakers. It was frequent lazy passing, nothing developed for blitzing the offensive zone, and the defense went out to lunch, thereby leaving Beckwith to balance the meetings. And even he had some tough times just covering the puck.

1) Oswego now depends on the at-large bid - I have no doubt that they'll suck one up, but do they still get #1 East and/or a bye out of this?

2) Unlike last year (a leap of faith over Bowdoin), I personally have delayed picking up Minneapolis tickets until now. Any reason someone can give to a "Lakers only" FF prospective buyer to NOT wait until after OSU plays again in two weeks (beyond the chance that tickets may be sold out)?

1) I don't think the defense was out to lucnh as much as the offense was. The tried to "make the play" to much rather then shoot the puck which also resulted in poor passing and bad give aways. The defense on both sides played well. I actually think Fredonia played slightly better defense despite the shot count...whoch I still think was favored way to high for the lakers from my eye.

2) They got an at large bid and a bye in 2007 and that year they were not even the number 1 seed in the east region or the nation as a whole. Oswego will get a bye through the first round. Only way I could think it not happening is if the NCAA decides to use the "travel distance rules" and put an opponent in vs Oswego that otherwise would not be able to fit elsewhere. Doubt it though. number one in the east and the west should get byes...and I think they will. Oswego should remain number 1 after this week...NCAA usually does not change drasticaly and the closest is Elmira which have no business in the stats to pass Oswego.

3) Won't be sold out...you could probably wait until the week of to get the tickets. Its in Ridder Arena and it houses 3,400 according to their website.

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

I can't really add too much to what's already been said. This was not the same team that played last weekend. Fredonia may have been the team that played on Wednesday, but the Lakers were the ones who looked completely gassed. Missed passes, missed shots, turnovers right in front of the goal. Beckwith is probably the only one who kept that game from being 4-1. It'll be interesting to see if we keep the #1 seed in the East. Elmira or Norwich could take it. I'm now hoping for a Freddy upset, just to lower the chances of Plattsbugh getting a Pool C. :D

I still don't see Norwich passing Plattsburgh after the Cardinals beat a ranked team. If anybody takes #1, it will be Elmira.

Well, if Freddy doesn't get the upset in Plattsburgh, the Cardinals have NO chances at Pool C. And I would be just fine with that scenario :D

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

also not much to ad but where is HVB and Leimbrock, benched hurt?? Both players shot the puck and Leimbrock crashs the net with some good size, that NOT getting to the rebounds hurt us, he left out a few big ones.....we missed many chances as well singleton for one......Thought the D played well except for that last goal, as all, not just the D, the forwards as well, were watching the player with the puck and NOT covering a man, ugh basic hockey.beck played well....PP was not good alot of passing bs......no dump and chase at all to many guys tryin to make fancy passes......also Freddy collapsed on their own net with 5 guys in the box to stop chances with sticks in the slot, left the points open, and Lakers didnt get many shots off......ow well they will have time to think about this one, and it will seem like a forever until the next game for these players...........seniors, and there are 7 have a lot to think about

I would still hope that H2H early in the season might count for something...or not, but a bye would be satisfactory enough for me. Facing off against a fair competitor in two weeks, and if won, then a bigger test in Minneapolis before the final...St Norberts again?

It was made pretty clear in speculation that no matter who or where you land in match-ups, the NCAA is about your team proving they are the best in D3 hockey. So if the Lakers get paired with a tougher road to hoe, so be it. Let this loss sink in deep for our guys to think on, and hope that they get an opportunity to turn on the lights of the CC rink one more time.

This wait is gonna be a killer. But it ain't over yet.

Many thanks - Ridder sounds like it's a bit smaller than Herb's, so the ticket situation was a little...puzzling.

It may be smaller, but they won't get near the crowds out there because Plattsburgh, Norwich, Middlebury aren't within 2 hours of it.

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

It seemed that the Lakers just couldn't get a good quality shot when it presented it's self, or make the pass when needed. I thought they played well enough to have won the game and the Fredonia goalie made some really nice stops that were in close. Kelly's chance in the 3rd really comes to mind. But you gotta give the Blue Devils their due for they kept is tie until their opertunity came.
Hopefully the Lakers won't fall to far in the East ranking.

After all the (deserved) smack talking the Cardinal fans did last night, I'm hoping they get the autobid and we can face them in the NCAAs. When Plattsburgh's season ends, I want it to be at the hands of the Lakers.

PROBABLY wouldn't meet untill Minn, if both teams make it that far.

One would think you would be thinking about your next game and not what the Cardinals are doing. Yes, we hope the Cardinals, win the league so there will be no back-dooring it in or pi--ing and moaning afterward. Bring it!

Be careful, CardsFan91 might want you to say that to his face too.

I know you weren't guilty of it birds but take a look at what your fan base has been saying the last two days. I think some of them are happier that Oswego is out rather than platty won.
