You have got to be ****ing kidding me.

Ditto. Hildebrand...a rookie hasn't won this race since Juan Pablo Montoya I believe.

On one hand I feel awful for J.R., but on the other that was a dumb mistake. those cars behind him were never going to catch him, he should have lifted and let kimball go.

wow.

props to Dan Wheldon though. He deserves a full-time ride.

HEY JIMMY VASSER, kick out E.J. and sign Wheldon or Scheckter, results will follow

Man, what a wild finish. I just can't belive that JR messed it up that bad, after running a last stint that well. At least he finished 2nd. But the coulda, woulda, shoulda machine will be working overtime for months.

Great for Dan, and awesome finishes for Graham and Tony- came from nowhere, for the most part.

Penske was nowhere all day. Not much to comment on.

Ganassi- from dominating the race with Dixon and Franchitti, Rahal was the best they did. Something.

(Danica wasn't really a factor, unless there would have been a late yellow to bunch them, but had she pitted at the end of that yellow with JR and Dario... then again, every driver can say that)

On the other side of the Atlantic- heck of a race for Vettel- to pull a single stop race like that was pretty amazing. But that late, late red where he, Alonso, and Button were able to put on the super softs... well, that decided the race right there. My driver, Hamilton, played more like a NASCAR race, and putting his nose in places where he probably shouldn't have more than once. Now they fly to Montreal for the single race in North America.

I'd file a protest, Wheldon passed Hildebrand under a yellow flag!

That only works if you aren't the reason for the yellow.... Then again, we could also ask PT how the yellow light at the end of the 500 works...

I watched a replay and IMS didn't flip on the caution light until Wheldon had passed Hildebrand AND the backmarker...meanwhile Hildebrand had traveled probably 1/4 of a mile along the wall.

Yep, saw that earlier this evening, too. It's going to stand up.

Simona being courted by Penske?

may be a rumor but it's a fun one. I couldn't venture a guess as to how that could start, because Helio and Briscoe still seem very capable drivers

I would be absolutely shocked. I don't think she has the ability on ovals (yet) to earn her a Penske/Ganassi type ride. If I was her, I would wait until the end of the season and see how my ability on ovals is (hopefully) improving. If it isn't then I would seriously look at a move to Europe and a GP2 (GP3, Renault 3.5, etc) ride. Her ability on road courses is very good but if she can't improve a lot on ovals then Indycar isn't the place for her. I'm not taking anything away from her, I like her a lot, but she needs to keep improving on ovals to be one of the best in Indycar.

True.

and it's the opposite of Dan Wheldon. Wheldon doesn't have a ride w/a bigger team due to his lack of performance on road and street circuits...which I'd argue would be a tougher challenge to get good at then Simona's on ovals.

gp2 or gp3 is a great suggestion. ....on that note, for feeder series i don't follow indy lights really so I don't know do they go to many road courses? if so, that might be an ok option, though I know the GP2 drivers would blow away an indy light field talent-wise

What a rough couple of weeks for JR hilldebrand. Not only does he lose the Indy on the final turn, today he tore his ACL while running over hurdles today.

Kid can't catch a break.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

I have to say I'm **** excited for tonights twin 275s!!!!

I have to thank my Dad for getting me into racing, and open wheel racing at a young age. The 500 two weeks ago and tonight's twin races has me as exuberant for INDYCAR as I've been in a loooooooooooong time.

It's like being at my first race again in Milwaukee (remember indycars raced twice a year there?) w/Danny Ongais, A.J., Lone-star J.R., Rick Mears, Roger Mcclusky, Dick Simon et al in 1979

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

IRL starts suck.

what do you mean?

also, if you're watching the IRL you're watching footage of races at least 2-3 years old.

the series that raced tonight is INDYCAR

speaking of...**** 2nd race, no cautions. that speaks to the talent level of these drivers, not one effing mistake by anyone to cause an accident. try that in taxicar...ain't going to happen fellas.

great racing and good for Will Power to get his first oval win.

my only complaint is in regard to 2 prominent drivers missing; Scheckter and Wheldon. they NEED to be on the grid.

can't wait for milwaukee. it will be my first live Indy race since chicagoland 09

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

scary crashes for Audi at Le Mans...wow. car going over the guard rail? that's reminiscent of 1950's-60's era F1 and Indy, frightening stuff
