Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I felt the same way when Joe Palmer arrived three years ago and these two guys beat out Joe. Be careful what you wish for, but Gibson should be good when he gets here in two years.

I wonder who his coach will be?:D

The thing with Joe he had to be rushed because of Ian leaving. Palmer wasnt supposed to come untill the year after which would have given him a extra year to mature. Gibson being able to stay in the Program 2 more years will be to his benefit when he gets to columbus. As far as the coach only time will tell what the future holds for Markell.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I actually Carlson is a much more consistent goalie, I just wish he would realize that the third period is TWENTY minutes long not 15. Seems like he always lets big goals in during the last five minutes of the game.

I think it is quite obvious that Markell should not be re-newed. This team is virtually the same team as last year and is dead in the water. I am just hoping hoping hoping that they hire a new coach and Dalpe gives it one more year under the new coach. I watch him out there and just want one more chance to win while he's here.

That being said, sweep Western next week, get home ice and who knows what happens. BUT.... if we make it to Detroit (hahahah) does Markell get re-newed?

I agree with you on Dusty but i think Heeter is the better of the 2 he's just not consistent enough to take the reigns. I dont think it matters who the coach is Dalpe will not be back as a Buckeye(hope im wrong) i also dont think Albert will be back either.

As far as Markell the only way he comes back is if they win the National Championship.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I dont believe Gibson will pull a Palmer. Joe arguably got worse while at the national program, believe it or not. It just got hidden behind the fact he was playing behind the best defense the NTDP has ever had with a number of first and second round NHL draft picks. Gibson is getting shelled in the USHL this year but is playing well. In the games i have seen, he could have easily given up 10 goals but has kept it reasonable.

I don't think Dalpe will be back but wouldn't shock me if he came back one more year because he still is on the skinny side and carolina doesn't usually rush their prospects playing in college (ex Jamie McBain from Wisconsin) but then again they did trade away Jack Johnson because he wouldn't leave school after his freshman season so who knows how it will play out because Zac has been pretty dominant from what I've seen.

I would be absolutely shocked if Johnny Albert left after this season. I would say there is more than a good chance for him to comeback. He's the type of college player that plays all 4 years.

As for my guess who the next coach will be? It will be.........John Markell. I'm guessing it will play out like this; OSU wins the first playoff series on home ice, goes on the road and takes the series from whoever, goes to the joe and wins the semi final, at that point OSU announces a 5 year contract extension for Markell and they go on to lose in the final. Then OSU has another 5 years of hope and flashes of promise but in the end its the same result until the next 5 years are up.

At this point in time the most likely matchups in your scenario would be taking a series in Oxford against Miami. That's not going to happen.:D

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I wish we didn't even have to talk about our Coaching situation.

I'm happy and jealous for the teams that have good Coaching year after year. :)

The only worries the fans have is if there good Coach takes another job with a different school or a NHL team.

PS. Maybe this is why Jason Lammers left this team last year for greener pastures with Colorado College???

Markell and his nose dive to.... this is exactly why Casey left three years ago and Lammers left this year. NOone wants to go down with a sinking ship.

Lebron23, I really hope, for our hockey program's sake, that you are not correct on this one.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Western this weekend. Pretty much need 6 points to give us any chance of home ice in Round 1. I hate to say it, but I don't see any points out of the Miami series, so if we come out flat this weekend... . I hope the boys come out strong and play with passion, regardless of the outcome. Western swept ND at home recently, so this will be a tough weekend. Play for pride boys, if nothing else.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

This is a must 6 points weekend. I also think that to get to Detroit they must get to 7th place and avoid Miami in the 2nd round. For that to happen they probably need 7 points or more in the last 2 weekends because ND plays bg this weekend and that will probably be a 6 point weekend for them and next weekend they should split with michigan. That leaves Notre Dame with 41 points. It will take probably 42 points to get up to 7th. Uno is at 41 but they play the Redhawks this weekend so probably 0 pts for them leaving them at 41. It will be tough to get any points from miami, but if they dont take care of Western this weekend miami wont matter and they will be traveling in the 1st round anyways.

Klbaum1077, agree wholeheartedly that we have to get 6 points this weekend. If we don't sweep WMU and get the 6 points this weekend, it won't matter what we do against Miami. I still don't see us getting any points against Miami, and if we come out flat this Friday like we did against Alaska last Friday, we could split up at Western. Regardless of what happens in these last four games, I still don't see us getting out of the second round of the CCHA Playoffs. This team has not been playing good hockey consistently enough this season for me to think that they can go into one of the top four teams' venues and win a three-game series. If anyone really believes we can go into Miami, Ferris State, Michigan State, or UNO/UM (or whoever ends up in 4th place) and win a best-of-three series, I would love to hear their thoughts on how we would pull that off.

Here's one scenario where I could see this happening.

Markell resigns as coach and the players rally around Steve or JB.:D

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Can Coach Steve Brent or JB get the job done? Or will the AD-Director clean house and let the new Coach bring in his own assistants?

Time will tell. :)

I want the Buckeyes to win the Championship and Markell to be gone. :D

Draighlicht, good one! I'm LOL at that one! I actually feel bad for JB because this is only his first or second year on the staff.

Just my opinion, but I think a house-cleaning is in order. We need to go in a different direction with this program. As I said in my earlier post, I feel bad for JB because he has only been here for a couple years, but we really need to breathe some new life into this program.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Just my opinion, but I think a house-cleaning is in order. QUOTE] I would have to agree, it is time for the entire coaching staff to go. However, I disagree with a few on here who have jumped on the blame the goalie bandwagon, granted it seems the head coach started it but that should be enough for most to question it in the first place. The goalies on this team in the first half of the season had many good efforts go unnoticed or unrewarded (see Carlson no goal support). Half of the battle is having confidence in yourself and that you will be back out there if you happen to have a bad game. While last year it seems the coach settled on a goalie pretty early, gave him the #1 job title and supported him all along the way, this year seems to have been the opposite. Just from my perspective it looks like coach has jerked around with their confidence all year and now wants to switch the blame to them for his poor managment skills. Also I believe Heeter was heavily recruited and a scholarship kid coming in, while Carlson's play last year and Palmer leaving they put him on scholarship this year. FWIW those are my two cents.

I just joined this forum not that long ago, but I also put the goalie situation on Markell. You don't play two goalies. I liken it to a two QB system in football. There's an old saying ... if you have two QB's, you have none. The same can be said for goalies. I don't have a preference as to who is in the net. Both Carlson and Heeter have their strengths and weaknesses. John Markell should have picked one and stuck with him. I have not agreed with the two-goalie system all season. If it was really a good idea, every NHL team would do it and the Olympic teams would be doing it. I don't see that happening right now, unless you want to bring up the Blue Jackets and their incessant flip-flopping of goalies. You see how that has worked out for them.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I think this will be our last weekend to get any points.

Next weekend with Miami , we will be lucky to just score a goal on them. :D

I really had " HIGH " hopes for the Bucks this year. Do to lack of team effort from some of the players and terrible Coaching decisions , I'm " BUMMED OUT " this year. As a fan I wanted to finish toward the top of the standings and at least make a run at the playoffs. The team still has time to prove me wrong and make a good showing in the playoffs.

If the players work hard in the off season and we get a Coaching change or the current Coach gets a talking to , I have my hopes up for next year. :)

THE OHIO STATE, pretty much agree on everything you have said. We need to get 6 points this weekend because it's highly likely we'll get 0 points next weekend. I also was really looking forward to this season and am now disappointed in how it has turned out. With all the players we had coming back, I thought we would build on last season's NCAA Tournament appearance. Instead we went in the other direction. I do have hopes for next year based on all the talented players we'll have coming back. I do think we need to bring in a new coaching staff as the current coaching staff has proven repeatedly that they are incapable of taking talented players and molding them into a championship-caliber hockey program.
