Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Appreciate the legwork, klbaum. The first thing I notice is that this schedule disengages with OSU Football to the maximum extent possible. Unless I'm missing something, home FB weekends are avoided entirely. The home hockey schedule has pretty much the latest possible start. At least at OSU, these are good things. It's really tough to get a decent crowd at the Schott with the overwhelming distraction that is Buckeye Football.

(Understood that there may be an exhibition game earlier on. But if that's at the Ice Rink or Chiller North, then drawing the casual fan isn't really a factor.)

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

This is the fourth consecutive year we've played a series with Quinnipiac. Was Markell's wife a Q grad so that he felt compelled to sign a four year agreement? Did he have a 'friend' in Connecticut? Was there someone there particularly good at frosting hair?

I don't like the looks of a schedule that has 15 home games and 21 road games. Starting to feel like a fan of some of those basketball or football schools I've never heard of that play road games against name teams just to make money.

Sorry - summer and hot weather make me crabby - and I will be even worse once the Kings finish off the Devils.:D

Why we would ever have a schedule that has more road games than home games is beyond me. Makes no sense at all, at least not to the tune of a six game deficit. That's three more weekends of away games. It's like you said about us being like a 'mid-major' playing on the road just for a paycheck. Wow, is that really what the person in charge of scheduling our mens hockey games thinks of our program? Hopefully that culture changes. We shouldn't be treating any of our programs like they are a mid-major program ... ever.

You are right or OSU will be in the Big Ten cellar with PSU forever.

We may end up below them anyway as they are obviously making more of a commitment to the sport of hockey than we are with their own building.

Sadly, this is true. The building and the proximity to grow some serious recruiting pipelines into the NE, tell me that without a serious commitment to make Ohio State a Big Ten contending program, we could slip behind Ped State within three or four years.

Yeah, I hate to sound negative about this obvious sore subject (tOSU's lack of serious commitment to hockey), but with the exception of hiring Mark Osiecki (a winner at every level), AD Gene Smith just has not shown much of a commitment to the hockey programs at tOSU. Not sure how anyone can expect us to finish higher than 5th or 6th with the commitment the other BIG schools make versus the lack thereof at tOSU.

You guys are absolutely right - there is no way OSU can compete in the Big Ten. Hell, they're having trouble competing in a league on life support. They should drop back to the club level where they might stand a chance of accomplishing something. You two could then move on to synchronized swimming or fencing where OSU tends to dominate.:D

Step up your game in synchronized skating imo, we need some competition.

I think we all need to calm down and lets see where this coming season takes us and as far as the B1G goes the chips will fall where they may but i dont see Ohio state as being a Doormat!

Aren't you guys afraid that Canada will start "calling their synchro-skaters home?";)

They do a great job with that. Have seen them perform several times.

I'll just say I hope the athletic department gets serious about our hockey programs someday and leave it at that ... no predictions about where we will finish in the BIG Hockey Conference! :D

I might be setting myself up for disappointment (Mrs 86 thinks I do that a lot), but I actually believe this will be the season when we finally break out. I think Coach Oz will figure out which moves to make so that we don't have the second half collapses that we have seen the past two seasons. I think bringing in more scoring will help with that as the second half collapses were due in part by a lack of scoring.

I agree with you i hope we get the chance to see this team play in detroit and regionals after that. There is no reason not to believe that they can do it.

Looking forward to a "Saturday Night in Toledo Ohio.":D

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

OK, here's a dilemma for you....

OSU and Lake Superior still have to schedule two series for the coming season, one in Columbus and one in Sault Ste Marie. After looking at all the other schedules there are only two weekends that these two teams have open in common - November 23, and 24 and January 25 and 26.

November 24 is the date for the Michigan at OSU football game and I seriously doubt that OSU wants to fight the traffic problem on Friday night and either Saturday or Sunday. My thought is that OSU would head north that weekend.

The late January weekend poses a very different problem - that's the weekend the NHL All Star Game is camped out at Nationwide Arena. I'm sure OSU is thinking - "we can't schedule a home series on that weekend - someone might notice we actually have a team!" ;)

Now I understand why OSU hasn't announced a schedule.

Of course since the Jackets are hosting the all star game it will probably be cancelled and the problem will be averted. :D

That is definitely a dilemma. Of the two scenarios, I would say they should go ahead and play at Lake Superior in November, then host them the same weekend as the All-Star Game. I doubt the All-Star game gets cancelled. It will be the only chance for us CBJ fans to see some decent hockey (from both teams on the ice ... haha).

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

So Lake State is set for Columbus during the NHL all star weekend and I hear that the Saturday game will be an early afternoon one, when there is a lull in the all-star schedule. I would have guessed that OSU would schedule it opposite the skills competition and hope no one noticed.

There is an opportunity here. Discount the tickets and offer them to those folks having All Star game or skills event tickets. Nothing to do early in the afternoon before the skills competition - lure them three miles up the road so see a warm up game and get a little exposure. Then again, that doesn't make OSU hockey sense and smacks of correct marketing policies. ;)

Let me repeat something from an earlier post - I don't care for the 15 game home and 21 game road schedule. Haven't checked but I would guess Penn State and Huntsville are probably the only teams with fewer homes games than OSU.
