Ohio State would have long term success if it moved to the CHA. I can't help but think Penn State will be a regular in the NCAAs if Mercyhurst loses its coach.
I think it was after the 2003-04 season, but then Findlay folded its program. Quinnipiac was joining the CHA, so had OSU made the jump and Findlay continued to compete, the league would have had six teams and eventually, an auto bid. Without Findlay and the auto bid possibility, it wasn't as attractive a move.I don't remember the exact year (Pgb probably remembers), but Ohio State thought about moving to the CHA, then decided to stay put in the WCHA. I think most of us agreed with staying in the WCHA. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. You're probably correct about Ohio State having long term success in the CHA, but the athletic department decided to stay put in the WCHA and I agree with that decision.
I see no reason to end a desirable status quo. Why look for fixes?
Not sure the annual "sitting out of the NCAA tourney" is a tradition of worth keeping.
My guess is that Ohio State is more interested in winning the NCAA Tournament than just reaching it.Not sure the annual "sitting out of the NCAA tourney" is a tradition of worth keeping.

Would Eastern officials and teams put up with that thuggery? Would OSU delete that portion of their game (which might happen anyway with the departure of their coach)?
.
I am old enough to remember when Mich & Mich State men left the WCHA. The story was to reduce expenses but the suggestion was made that going to an "easier" conf would get them more trips to the NCAA tourney which would raise their profile and draw better recruits. Whatever their reasons I think it did do that for them.
Let me ask this question. In football, Ohio State played in a weak power conference with a weak non-conference schedule. They got the last seed in the NCAA tournament and had to immediately play the #1 seed from the toughest conference in a one game match up.
Did you still enjoy the national championship?
inaccurate analogy
the Big Ten is not to football as Hockey Easy is to women's hockey
but nice try
The Big Ten was in fact the weakest of the power five last year.

If it helps, think of Big Ten football like Big Ten men's hockey.
