Going... Going... Gone! Rack the bats; the home run has been hit.

Naturally new coaches don't come with guarantees. As with any new situation, there will be much work to be done. But my perception is that we've landed a rising star with real upside potential. Here's to hoping for much success for both Coach Potter and the program as a whole.

I'm sure that comment was made in pure sarcasm, but my eyes are still watering at the thought of the great Shannon Miller working as anyone's assistant (or holding a job where she would have to answer to anyone) at any level. I think not.

Mrs 86 and I are just getting home from doing some grocery shopping and other errands, so you have all beat me to it, but yes, I consider this a home run hire, and I am thrilled. I was going to post the link, but it's already been done. I am a happy dude today. This gives the program the shot in the arm they needed. Wow. Jenny Potter. At Ohio State. Wow. :) :) :) :)

Rob may have "brougt" an extensive coaching background to Maple Grove, but a few spelling lessons might be in order, too. "Creting Durham Hall?" I've been to Durham Cathedral in England and there is no Creting Durham Hall there!

I am dumbfounded, UMD had to rush the hiring process in order to hire .... so that OSU or MSU-Mankato wouldn't hire ... before they do?

it remains to be seen how good of a job will be done at UMD & OSU, but this is a grand slam for OSU as far as PR goes,
people in Duluth are still wondering who the coach is, at least the 63 people that follow women's hockey, which is exactly why the choice for OSU is so good, and the one for UMD so bad

UMD could have had Potter if they didn't rush the interview process?

First of all, ouch! Tell us how you really feel about the hiring decision at Duluth. Did you ever think perhaps they wanted to make a clean start with someone that didn't have any history there?! I hope Crowell makes you eat your words!

I think the jury is still out as to which hire will prove to be the most successful. Would it be safe to say that they are both starting with roughly similar returning talent levels, but that OSU/Potter has a definite edge when it comes to their incoming recruits?

jury still out = it remains to be seen

Keep in mind success for the 2 schools is partly defined by their past. A 4th place finish at OSU will be seen as a positive, and people will be optimistic about the future. UMD isn’t likely to move up in the standings, they will do well to hold their position. They are not going to cheer a 4th place finish in Duluth.

It looks to me like the real reason they “rushed the process” is because they wanted to have their press conference before OSU did so they didn’t look completely stupid and be asked embarrassing questions.

I’m not sure what words I’ll have to eat, but I will say if anybody has a Potter hockey jersey they are willing to part with cheap, I’m looking for something to wear when I go to Bulldog games.

Those underlined words. And by the way, nobody wants to see you at Bulldog games let alone in a Potter jersey.
