Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Not trying to troll, but if the buckeyes were to lose the series to ND and not make the NCAA Tournament, would this be the biggest collapse in college hockey history?

I have never seen anything like this. A team running away with the conference and thought to get a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, to now needing to pull a 2009-10 Michigan and win the CCHA Playoff Championship to make the NCAA Tournament.

I never expected this kind of slump. I was kind of pumped after the series in January and hoped that Michigan would play ohio at JLA for the CCHA Playoff Championship.

Seems to me you or some other Michigan poster asked this before and I will say this, if it isn't the biggest collapse, it has to be right up there, or I should say, right down there. The disturbing thing is not necessarily the regression, but that this is the second year in a row we've seen this regression, and if I am not mistaken, this year's collapse is even worse than last year's. Your second paragraph sort of sums up how I feel ... never seen anything like this. And you are correct, I think at this point we have to win the Mason Cup to have a shot at an NCAA Tournament bid. This shouldn't happen next season. This team has way too much talent to have a second half collapse next season. I am counting on an NCAA Tournament bid in 2013. There's no reason not to expect that with the personnel we'll have back.

I would offer that whoever loses this series will be guilty of one of the more epic collapses in recent history, but I don't know it would be the biggest. In fact I think for Notre Dame it would be an even bigger collapse if you want to compare. The Irish are coming off the second place finish and a frozen four appearance from a season ago, while Ohio State finished 9th in the CCHA, just like this season. Granted they took the same odd route to the poor finish we did, but I think coming in to the season a top 4 finish for the Buckeyes would have been unexpected by most. And as the home team, the onus would also be on Notre Dame if they continue the collapse to the early off-season.

Either way, this can't be where fans of either of our teams expected to be when we looked at the standings in the first week of January.

Also a friendly reminder for any of you folks heading west, the Irish close out the regular season in the Big East on Friday and will be playing at almost the same time. Parking will be a nightmare more than likely. The basketball game starts at 7:00 so when to arrive for a 7:30 hockey game will be hard to decide. Depending on what happens you may be directed to the south side of Edison Road, which is the road that basically "borders" the campus and along which the main parking lots for both the Compton and Purcell Pavilion (basketball arena - same place it used to be, different name) are located. This is what they've done a couple of times when there were games at both places. The basketball game will likely be over 45 minutes before the hockey game, so getting out won't be the same chore. I don't have any advice for what will work best, just be forewarned you may have a bit of a walk to the CFIA.

I'd say at least from our perspective our collapse was bigger going from #2 nationally at Christmas time and #1 in PairWise, RPI & KARCH to where we are now. Well somebody gets some redemption after this weekend but for how long?

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Isn't this sad? We're fighting (well, not really fighting, but talking) about who has sucked worse lately--your team or ours.

Safe travels to all and might I add a few suggestions to fill the time: (I think Nick's Patio has repaired the damage from the geezer who drove through their wall) Nick's Patio on Ironwood would be good for breakfast, Main St. Pub on 23 would be good for lunch and Fiddler's Hearth downtown would be good for supper. All are within minutes from campus. The Center for History downtown is also a nice way to kill a couple of hours, especially if you like touring historic homes. Of course there's also a walk around campus with stops at the Basilica and the Grotto.

I'd love to go to South Bend this weekend but the wife and I haven't been in good health lately so a drive that long out of the question. The finals in Detroit is about the extent of our range right now.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Copied this off the ND website - • Internet: Video: Games one and three of the series will be streamed live on the Notre Dame website at UND.com. There is no charge to view these games. Audio: Notre Dame will provide live audio for all three games of the series on the Notre Dame website at UND.com.
NO CHARGE? Somebody pinch me!

remember, ya get what ya pay for!

Actually, word on the street is it isn't any worse than the streaming feeds some CCHA teams charge for. Better than some in fact. You get a couple of cameras on the production and the ND radio play by play is fed over the video.

I'll route it from the new computer to the plasma and see how good it is.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

That first ND goal, boy, talk about the luck of the Irish! The second goal was Krough's fault. He allowed the ND player to post up unchallenged on the open back door of the net. He should have knocked him to the ice!

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Notre Dame still up 2-0 halfway through the third period. Not the start us Buckeye fans had hoped for. If this holds up, we now face the almost impossible task of winning two games in a row on the road. For some reason, I was not able to pull up the video feed, so I am doing the gametracker thing. Anyone else have problems with the video? Maybe I'll try again.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

It's a final ... Irish win 2-0. In true Buckeye Hockey fashion, we get a pp late in the game then commit a stupid penalty to eliminate it. This season really went down the tubes. The old saying really is true ... it's a short drop from the penthouse to the outhouse. Gonna be a real interesting offseason in Columbus, for both the coaching staff and the players. Sorry to seem negative but I just cannot figure out this second half. I refuse to believe the first half of the season was a fluke or "we really weren't as good as we showed in the first half." I sincerely hope this motivates the players and coaching staff to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Why is tomorrows game on Fox Sport Detroit when South Bend and most of Ohio is not in their viewing region?

Your are correct McLean went to where he was supposed to be and the puck just hit him what bad luck. A Terrible goalie interference call also led to that 2nd goal Szczechura never even touched the goalie. As far as the goal goes again you are correct Krogh has to get in between that guy and the puck. I dont think they played that bad tonight some awful penalties kept them from getting any mo going. this game reminds me alot of game one last year at Lake St. They have to find a way to get guys to the front of the net and also get a shooting lane way to many times they just shot the puck right into the Irish defender. I thought Cal was great tonight he kept it 2-0 and gave them a chance for a comeback.

I'm guessing because there is nothing else to broadcast plus there are an awful lot of ND fans up here.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

So who all's rooting for the Spartans in the 2nd round?

Nope, never root for sparty. I'll prove it to you, I'm pulling for you guys to beat sparty in bouncey-ball on Sunday. Cheering for sparty must be like kissing your sister. Do you have any Alabama residents in here so I can test my theory?
