They made it way to easy on Miami tonight. I thought Cal should have had the first 2 goals but you are correct way to many mistakes in the defensive zone. No consistent pressure on offense for the most part now i will give miami some credit for that but ohio state was a to soft on offense tonight.

To top things off none of the other results went the buckeyes way and now they are fighting for there lives as far as home ice next weekend goes.

CCHA Tie Breaking Procedure:

If I'm understanding the rule and the standings correctly, any one the following will give the Buckeyes Home Ice for the First Round:

1. A Buckeye win in either regulation or overtime. With 3 points the Buckeyes would, by definition, finish ahead either NMU or LSSU, and perhaps both. Result: 6th through 8th.

2. A Northern Michigan loss in either regulation or overtime. If the Buckeyes and Wildcats both fail to earn a point tonight, OSU would win the tiebreaker based on more wins, excluding shootouts. Result: No worse than 8th.

3. Earn more points tonight than Notre Dame. The Buckeyes and Irish are currently tied in points, but ND has the tiebreaker due to more wins excluding shootouts. But if we can finish 1 point ahead of the Irish, the real win/shootout win distinction doesn't matter. Result: No worse than 8th.

Obviously there are other scenarios. Add one or more shootouts to the mix and it gets pretty complicated. But as I see it, the 3 scenarios listed above are the most likely routes to snaring home ice next weekend.

Caveat: This is confusing, and I may have missed something. If you detect any errors, or have any questions, please post.

You hit it right on. 3 points either by victory over miami or a Loss by northern gives them home ice next weekend. Fail to show up tonight and they will most likely be traveling to next weekend.

Absolutely. No saying they played well but lost a close one. They put up no defensive intensity at all. It's almost as though they get down in front of the net and just expect Heater to take over from there. Fredo should have hung a couple more goals on them.

Barring some miracle run through the CCHA, I can't say that I'm walking away from this season with a good feeling or optimistic about any momentum carrying over into next year.

If we don't get the win tonight all I can say about our series with Miami is with as many seniors as they're losing and how we'll have a more matured team come next season we will in all likelyhood in our final season in the CCHA give them a good kick in the b*lls goodbye. lol! :D

Our freshmen have come a long way in the second half, Czarnik Mullin BIGGS Coleman and Little Wideman will all have 2 years under their belt at that point, and we have even more snipers coming in next fall ;)

It was very odd seeing 10 seniors out there though when we have as many freshmen this year as we do.

Wow. Going from #1 in the country to not only having to play in the first round of the CCHA playoffs, but having to play on the road in the first round. Words cannot express how shocked I am at that.

That just about sums up how i feel too. This is an epic collapse and now 2 years in a row they have folded the tent in the second half of the season.

At what point does this begin to be linked to coaching? I'm not willing to throw Oz under the bus yet, but given the collapse he's dug himself a hole that he'll need to show us he's capable of climbing out of next year.

This team doesn't deserve to make the ncaa tournament. Quite possibly, the best thing for them will be to sit home and watch all 16 teams that passed them by in the pwr over the last 8 weeks keep playing. Let them chew on that for the next six months and come out with a little more heart and determination and fight.

I was telling my wife that same thing about the coaching. If this happens again next year(the 2nd half collapse) then we could be getting a new coach. I feel the same thing about the ncaa's they really dont deserve to make it unless they win the whole ccha tournament.

Keep in mind that out of a 28 man roster, 12 are freshmen and 7 are sophomores, so it appears that despite this season's disappointing finish the future looks bright for the Buckeyes.

I think we should consider this a developental year. If it wasn't for the stellar first half and we had the losses spread out across the season it would then be more obvious it's a young team needing maturity. And don't forget the top goalie prospect we have coming in next season!

Your right but this is 2 years in a row they have tanked in the 2nd half. Now this can be forgotten with a great run in the playoffs.

It's never the norm for a coach to come in and have great success his first season and last year he had a lot of resistance from some players on doing it his way and meeting his expectations and this year 12 freshmen is still 12 freshmen. Prior to this season speculation was it would be the 2nd or 3rd season once he had his own recruits here before we really saw consistant results and I think we need to keep those early observations in mind.
