Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I could have sworn otherwise but given my constantly advancing age I will leave room for doubt as my memory does trick me on occasion. I'll research it and find out for certain.

1998 they hosted Lake st in the last series played in the barn.
1999- they hosted ferris in the schott
2000- they didnt make it
2001- they played at omaha
2002- they played at western
2003 they hosted omaha
2004 they hosted BG
2005 they hosted Ferris
2006 they taveled to ferris
2007 they Hosted northern
2008 they traveled to northern
2009 they hosted BG in the barn
2010 they Hosted ND in the barn
2011 they traveled to Lake St.

It's BYE weekend for the Bucks. I guess as fans all we can do this weekend is root for the underdog teams to beat other teams to help us out. The pressure is off the Bucks this weekend , but it will be back on them next weekend 110%. I hope the team learned there lesson from the 2 week Christmas break. " GO BUCKEYES GO. "

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

The outrage is that the OSU athletic program operates in the black and doesn't need to bring in the extra money by letting others use the Schott, they just choose to. It was built on the premise it was to be the home venue for our hockey and basketball teams first and foremost and they basically lied about that part of it. As a hockey fan, if I had donated money towards building the Schott I'd be pretty pi*ssed.
I don't have any specifics, but I believe there's debt to be paid off on the Schott's construction that's separate from the operating budget. No idea if revenue from the OHSAA events goes to pay off the debt, but that would certainly be logical.

You're standing on principle on this, and that's to be commended. Your passion on the issue is also to be applauded. I've been more pragmatic on the issue, in part because it's a potential distraction for the players and coaches. Also, I've had so much fun at the Ice Rink over the years, both on and off the ice, it's just impossible for me to agree that it's "demeaning." But on the question of principle, you're absolutely correct. If a team earns home ice for the playoffs, they deserve to play the games on their home ice, not just in their home city.

As far as letting the opponent host, actually we have done that. I don't recall the exact year but is was in the not too distant past that no local venue was available to us and we did indeed have to defer what would have been us hosting a first round playoff series to the opponent's venue. Anybody recall the exact year?
You might be thinking of the year we traveled to Ferris. My memory is also sketchy. But my recollection is that we were expecting to host, but lost some games we shouldn't have. In other words, we were forced on the road by the surprising losses, as opposed to opting out of hosting. klbaum can probably nail that one down better than we can.

That might be the year he is thinking of they feel apart in the last 3 weeks of that season and dropped to the 10 seed instead of hosting as the 8 seed.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Am I correct in the fact that if we had stay in the top 5, we will get a bye and hosted the following weekend? From the CCHA website "The top five seeds will receive first-round byes, while the remaining six teams will play best-of-three series’ at campus sites. The No. 6 seed will host the No. 11 seed, the No. 7 seed will host the No. 10 seed, and the No. 8 seed will host the No. 9 seed. The winners will advance to the CCHA Quarterfinals." A few years ago they moved when they played the wrestling tourney to a weekend earlier. Getting to play in the Schott should be good incentive for the boys to get the first round bye. According the the Schott website, there are no events March 9, 10, or 11th. If the boys had kept their sh*t together, we wouldn't be having this conversation about the barn because I believe we will play in the Schott. Am I wrong about still being able to play in the Schott?

As far as I'm aware and from everyone I spoke with, yes we would host a 2nd round series in the Schott.

I've a lot of good memories of the old rink too but when I described "demeaning" to have playoffs there I wasn't describing my personal feelings but rather the feelings of quite a few of the team members spoken to me in conversations over the years.

To Host they have to be in the top 4 but if they finish 5th they will get a bye and travel to the 4th place team in the 2nd round. Finishing in the top 5 will really not be up to them with the bye this weekend. They need results to go their way and then probably sweep the hawks and still get help.

Yep , the Bucks had a very good points lead in the standings the first half. I thought they were going to run away with the title until they got back from the Christmas break. GO BUCKS.

I don't doubt it. But as far as I'm concerned, this doesn't validate the position. Rather, it's a potential problem. It's very important for players not to let this kind of thing become a distraction.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I think you are going to end up being correct on that, but if we are going to win championships, we better figure out how to eliminate these second half meltdowns. That is becoming a disturbing trend ... two years in a row now. And this is no longer a young team. It's February. Can't play the young team card in February.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Things are going our way tonight. For Klbaum's scenerio to play out tomorrow we need Michigan, Western, Alaska & Notre Dame to get the wins.

The results were great tonight and although they lost Alaska played pretty well in the overtime tonight and had a chance right before the winning goal. I feel pretty good about getting the results tomorrow and then they have to take care of business next weekend.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Well we now know what has to be done next weekend. With the results from today not exactly going the buckeyes way here is what needs to happen. 3 points or a Northern Loss next weekend assures home ice in round 1

To Finish:
1st-2nd- can not happen

3rd- Sweep Miami, Western gets swept by Ferris and earing 2 more points than Lake St, Michigan state gets swept by ND.Then it would go to the 3rd tie breaker i havent looked to see who wins that tie breaker just yet.

4th- They need no less than 5 points over miami and earn 2 more points than Sparty and Lake St.

5th- Get 5 or more points from the the Hawks in the series hope the Lakers dont get 3 points against Northern.

6th- Get 3 or less agains the Hawks and the Lakers get 1 or less against Northern.

7th- This is tricky because they are 3 ahead of ND but can not end in a tie with them because nd would have more league wins. If they end up in a tie with Northern at 39 ohio state would win the tie breaker with more wins.

8th- All they need is 3 points or a Northern loss to assure themselves of no worse than 8th place.

To Finish ahead of the Lakers need a combination of 8 points( a win and a tie plus a lakers loss) . To finish ahead of Miami they need at least 5 points. To Finish ahead of ND they need 4 points either by earning or nd losing. To Finish ahead of Northern they need either a win or Northern Loss. To finish ahead of State they need to sweep miami and for the spartans to get swept by ND!

Let the Fun Begin and Beat the Hawks!

We were in the catbirds seat and just a couple of wins the 2nd half would have made all the difference.

I have thought about that all weekend long while watching those other game on tv. Take a look at the BG series and that series 2 weeks ago against state. Even if they win those shootouts agianst bg and hang on to that lead on Friday against State thats 5 points they would have plus 3 less that state would have. Makes a huge difference in the standings, but they dug this hole and now i am interested to see how they come out on friday night in miami.

Things even went The Buckeyes way in the Pairwise this weekend. They moved up a spot. A win or 2 next weekend will put them in a good spot going into the league playoffs.
