Ohio State 2024-25 Domination of the Portal Queen!

the idea that this is a "woman's coach thing" is preposterous and speaks volumes about your insecurities as a person....

this is a "human being" thing where real people react poorly when portalling in older players is prioritized over development

why are we talking about Ohio State? because they are one of the big three programs and just won the Natty

but Nadine being a woman? that's NOT the issue... please stop with your silliness

Growing up in a sport where every single woman coach is ultimately trashed on this site has had an effect on me, I don’t know if insecurities is the right word.

I hope the next generation actually gets to celebrate women coaches. Muzerall is pretty inspiring, but go on about the culture problem.

enjoy the site Badger dad.

I'm a huge fan of Nadine

I also think advertising on social media for transfer portal candidates is tone deaf

both of the above statements can be true

If you are referring to that Instagram post about looking for two forwards she posted that just to mess with certain heads on forum. She has a great sense of humor! ;)

We got it. That's your take. If it scares away recruits, then good they wouldn't survive at OSU any way. Muzerall looks for the tough kids, not the soft ones. The team loves it.

For the record, the 2017-18 Ohio State team had two transfers on it: Jacyn Reeves spent her freshman year at Union before going to OSU, and Charly Dahlquist played two years at North Dakota, before they went out of business.

What was until recently known as the 'one-time transfer exception' did not exist in 2017-18; but the grad transfer rule did, as did the exception allowing undergrads experiencing coaching changes to transfer (how and why the two mentioned above were allowed to transfer to OSU).

I'll ask again and maybe you'll answer. Give me one coach that has reached the frozen four in their second year? Please don't give me the blah..blah... only the answer to the question please.

(I though about it a bit, and decided that checking the most likely suspects wouldn't take that long)

Shannon Miller - National championship in her second year
Brad Frost - Final Four in his second year
Liz Hallderson - National championship in her third year
Mark Johnson - National championship in his fourth year
Maura Crowell - Final Four in her third year
Katie King (BC) - Final Four in her fourth year.

There could be others; those are the ones I thought to check, and had notable results.

Ohio State started the 2023-24 season with 14 forwards on their roster (one left mid-season; she must not have been a "tough kid"). Currently, they have only 11 forwards on their roster for the 2023-24 season.

You gotta hand it to Muzerall on this one: when she commits to pulling a gag, she *really* commits to the gag!

LOL

No idea. Not interested in doing that research. What difference does it make?

The difference is that you hammer Coach Muzerall on this forum but never talk about any of the other 40 plus coaches in womens hockey. Go start a thread and call it "bashing womens college hockey coaches". The answer is Muzerall.

I 'revised' the answer after thinking about how one would look it up. See the revised answer.

(Also, I spend a whole lot more time and effort trying to hammer you guys. Muzerall doesn't bother me nearly as much as your Kim Jong Un level hero worship of her.)

My daughter worships her. I admire her.

Enough. This is the Ohio State page. This person you are criticizing repeatedly for the same perceived short coming over and over is a 1 x national champion as a player, won I don’t know how many national champions as an assistant coach at Minnesota, and won 2 national championships as a head coach at OSU so far and is the defending national champion.

She didn’t inherit Wisconsin, she inherited a mess. She had the courage and support to move across states and take on a big new job. From 2nd assistant to head coach at a big school. With an 8 month old baby and a toddler, and a support system. In her story she always mentions how her husband encouraged her, also relevant.

She made them into a 2x national champion with the support of her school and staff.

We all know she could go to the portal and get 2 forwards if she wanted to. There’s no Bilka there, but there’s players if she decided that was what was best for the team. Considering her resume, I think she’s earned the right to not be continuously criticized for the same perceived error in the only place online that really talks women’s hockey, for a hockey decision that she’s made. If you have point make it, but get on with your life. If OSU has a down year after their win, well ok. There are lots of teams that get that down year after their window closes, without having even won a national championship.

As for only 11 forwards, yes hope they don’t get into injury trouble if that’s what they do. It’s a storyline you’ve navigated at Wisconsin I believe, on defense.

There was very little coverage when they won their second title, to be honest. This page is kind of it. Consider having some consideration for who reads here. Not one of these coaches is perfect, not one. And they have power, and should be held to account. But having the guts to stand in the fire and try to win - and actually win - a national championship, is a big deal. You guys write soliloquies about Johnson over on your threads. Keep it up, the guys a legend. But OSU has someone they are proud of too. And should be. Try talking about her like she’s an accomplished professional, because she is.

My post was making fun of the ridiculous idea that the post to the Ohio State Instagram account 'advertising' for two more forwards was done as a joke or a prank. That is directed at HockeyBuckeye, not Muzerall.

As for "enough": what makes you think you get to tell me what to do or say?

I’m not going to engage with you any longer.

I’ve said what I said about Muzerall being an impressive and accomplished woman in hockey.

It’s more important for you to prove HB wrong than show any level of respect to Muzerall, the defending national champ coach, literally on an OSU fan page. That’s your choice.

I hope your daughter gets the chance to play for her!
i assume she plays hockey? :)

Yes. My daughter does play. Tons of good players. It's been awesome to see the game grow here in Ohio. The rinks are packed with girls wooping up on the boys. Ohio has a long way to go to catch up to the States up North. Ohio needs more rinks. Only 5 sheets of ice in Columbus. Looking forward to OSU building this new ice facility. I hear President Carter wants it to be the best in the Country.

As do all of our fans. With the level Nadine has elevated our program to it should be the showcase for all of women's college hockey to reflect her achievement.
I would add it should have LOTS of trophy case space for as long as she is our coach (hopefully well into her senior years) she will be bringing home the hardware on a very uncomfortable level of consistency to our opponents!

You are correct in the need for rinks and the growth of hockey here. I'm old enough to have seen it all start in Columbus. I saw before there were any built rinks here.
The only rink we had was a very small outdoor rink with a single light pole on the front lawn of Chemical Abstracts with no refrigeration of course, it had to be cold enough to have ice. And when the OSU rink was built in the early 1960's for the first two years we only had club hockey, it wasn't until '63 it became an NCAA program. For the many years that followed if a girl was on the ice it was in figure skates only, girls hockey was absolutely non existent and unheard of.
Considering women's hockey wasn't even on the map here until 1999 we've come a long way.
I've been accused of hero worship for our coach, I would leave that for the many young girls here who do idolize our coach, I cannot think of a better role model for them.
I would characterize myself simply as immense respect and admiration for her achievements here and for all of women's hockey.

that is such an ignorant take that anyone bothered by that is "soft"

will be interesting to see if Hadley Hartmetz's sister Sloane(SSM star at 16U) goes to Ohio State...

you know, because everyone there loves it

If she's offered I see no reason she would refuse. As far as I'm aware Hadley has nothing but positive experience here and to me it's a no brainer she would listen to her sister over all others.
