Ohio State 2024-25 Domination of the Portal Queen!

Well your source SBNation was wrong. A good news organization would have spoken to the actual athletes that played in the game so that they could report accurately. Then you would be informed with real information. So see robertearle, I do know better. I'll keep educating you ... must suck to not know anything about the OSU Buckeyes. Read the Art of War and you might have a better understanding of why they only wore them at that time.

I didn't say I know; I wasn't there. I would have no idea. The press report I saw this morning said they didn't have other jerseys available.

So why haven't they ever repeated the "brilliant" move since?

Just epic times, the jersey situation. The excellent Alison Lukan wrote about in the Athletic:

“So, Muzerall went to her team to see what they wanted to do for the next game — take the penalty, or change their jerseys. The decision was made to start a skater down.

“As a team, we all agreed on it,” Dunne said. “We embraced it. We loved being different, we loved having the all black. As a team, we were behind coach. She wanted to do something special for us and we supported that, we loved that.”

Muzerall believes the decision unified her group. The Buckeyes killed the opening penalty, scored the first goal of the game and went on to secure the 3-2 win.”

While the jerseys are now legal after some modifications, they still have a certain Stealth flair to them, a nod to when OSU went to the Dark Side; Muzerall seemingly first acknowledged the forum; won me over with her “hey haters these jerseys aren’t for you” sort of response; and around then FHF named her the Muzzinator which stuck and was referenced on air during the playoffs this year.

Strong Lindsay...

Mrs.Hockeybuckeye and I proudly wore our black jerseys at every game this season once they became available. Best jerseys in all of women's college hockey!

Pretty bad when it's a penalty for outclassing everybody with the coolest jersey ever! ;)

Your school's colors are not black on black. I am confused as to why the team would wear a uniform that was not the school colors. I know MJ is partial to blue and green from his Whaler days, but if he sent them out in those colors no matter how cool the uniform looked, I would strongly object. I didn't even approve of the creamy jerseys they wore for one of the fill/poop the bowl games they played.

Reference Lindsay's post for your answer.

if I wanted to post my name, I would just do that haha

if you did a little digging my son's name isn't that hard to figure out:)

Then you & I know each other. I've a LONG history of interaction with all our men's player and their parents. I used to always wear a Red Wings jersey and switched to Maiani's #23 CCHA jersey.

The gray jerseys were a challenge I think, and the black is a better 3rd jersey option.

Wisco is so committed to their classic threads I can’t even picture the cream jerseys you speak of.

I do like the maroon jersey skating rodent that Minnesota has, have to say it. Not sure if it’s an alternate or what but it’s great. Maybe too friendly though….

I think they have only worn them twice; once for the 2014 "Fill The Bowl", and one other time after that, but I don't recall the 'occasion'. Cream instead of pure white - which Tim objects to - and the logo is a stylized W known as the "Field House Crest", because there's a large version of it in stone (?) high on the front of the UW Field House. Interestingly, nobody knows who designed the logo back in 1929 or so; it's just there on the Field House. For the longest time the Field House Crest was rarely seen anywhere, but it is quite popular to put on stuff now, regularly seen around campus.

The photo here isn't the greatest to see them, but it's the best I could find quickly. Defender Melissa Channel's brother? boyfriend? used to wear one of hers to games quite often. I understand Tim's objection, but I love these jerseys. I'd buy one in a heartbeat, but they've never sold them. Worn only twice, never marketed, etc.

Likewise, I hope your son is doing well. We had a good turnout for the last alumni weekend. Everyone is pretty bummed they're tearing down the Bier Stube!

Yeah that's bad!! My son is doing great--thanks for asking. Still chasing the puck around which is fun--but I do miss the times in Columbus!

That's great to hear. I always hope for the best for our young men and women in their post college lives.
I hope I live long enough to some of their kids become legacy hockey players here.

hey I've lived long enough to see the Ohio State women's program going from totally irrelevant to national champs ---so now I know anything is possible!!!

Oh those are nice. Appreciate the context l, I love that stuff. Thanks for sharing,

I can't speak for other school but Ohio State's athletic department has a very deep system of checks and oversights for all their coaches in every sport. There is no way these days a coach can bend or break the rules and not be caught, we're NOT Michigan.
But the eligible players can reach out to schools they are interested in and have on campus visits before the "official" announcement of entry into the portal. Once they are in the portal they can sign their papers cementing their commitment. So the done deal is coaches know in advance who their new players are before they are officially in the portal and their portal announcement is just a formality for the players who already know where they're going.

I understand I've gone way back in the conversation here to catch up, but I'd just say that OSU paying attention to the women's hockey team is a new phenomenon pretty much completely forced by Nadine. That program had less than no oversight for quite awhile, which is how the Hanrahan and Potter situations happened, among other things. Those teams did no off-season training, had to go to the men's staff to get guidance and generally were forgotten by the university for several years. Obviously the results are what everyone looks at, but what Nadine did in coming in is force Ohio State to treat their women's hockey program and players seriously. It's honestly a travesty that a university and athletic department as storied and funded as OSU let that program flounder as longa as they did. I agree that things are different now, but you all aren't that far removed from players transferring away and being absolutely shocked by the support and expectations that came when they got to other schools.
