Sophie Jaques didn't play tons in the beginning of her career but Ms Jaques showed up everyday and put the work in to get better and achieves winning a national championship getting back to the national championship and wins the Patty Kazmaier. there is a flip side to the portal, much like there is to everything in life. You can improve your team in the short term but you kill your culture in the long term. And in full disclosure my son is a Buckeye fanatic so to him this is distressing and was so surprising to hear from so many of the elite SSM girls. Is what it is. Has nothing to do with "competitiveness" as all those girls are super type A competitors. Last I checked SSM won both the national titles this year at 16U and 19U.

No. Enough with harassing the female coach when a player leaves her program. A kid transferred out of OSU this off-season and you’re here generalizing about how the SSM girls don’t like OSU and net negatives even though a former SSM woman just transferred to OSU and won a natty there.

and I don’t know how many transferred out of Wisco this year but it’s geography, lack of scholarships, wasn’t good enough anyway and the saccharine “once a Badger,
always a badger.” STOP. It is bullshit the way the female coach is denigrated in comparison to what all the other programs are doing. You guys would NEVER have the guts to talk like this about a program ran by a man. You just wouldn’t.

Also news flash the portal is responsible for the back end of Johnson’s legacy. Never forget it Badger fans. It’s what tipped him to undisputed GOAT, for now. And for anyone paying attention Clarkson’s coach also loves the portal. Please , someone tell the SSM girls. The other thing that bugs me about this is OSU made a gamble and WON. 2 national championships. It might cost them down the road, although my own take is she’s already proven she can coach a non portal team and will probably be fine when the portal dries up. Really what the covid era transfer portal was for women’s hockey was the dismantling of BC.

Regardless of what the future holds for OSU it doesn’t mean the championships were for naught or in any way less than, and that is the vibe of the commentary here. “You don’t get to enjoy your nattys because in the future the portal won’t be as deep.” Ridiculous.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, if you are referring to the coach cherry picking the top players in the portal to load her roster how is that a gamble? Unless the rules change it's no longer just recruiting to build a team it's recruiting AND portal is now the norm. Nadine herself said in interview any coach these days who doesn't effectively utilize the portal is behind the eight ball.
The strategy of using the portal is no different than the strategy of recruiting your incoming freshmen and she's the best at it. It's her job to put together the best group of players possible and so far there's not a coach in the country who utilizes that system of recruiting and portal as well as she does so there is no "gamble" in anything she does.

For the record - and with the exceptional case of Lacey Eden and whether she would be a 'transfer' or not being debatable; I didn't include her - unless I missed someone, over the past eight seasons Wisconsin has had a total of seven transfer players: in reverse order, Anna Wilgren, Jesse Compher, Kendra Nealey, Daryll Watts, Kennedy Blair, Kristen Campbell, Claudia Kepler.

I believe Ohio State had eleven on this past season's roster.

the idea that this is a "woman's coach thing" is preposterous and speaks volumes about your insecurities as a person....

this is a "human being" thing where real people react poorly when portalling in older players is prioritized over development

why are we talking about Ohio State? because they are one of the big three programs and just won the Natty

Muzerall has done more than any man in the last 8 years, again FACT. When Muzerall took over OSU was not even a .500 hockey team maybe 1 out of 20 seasons. So tell me badger boys what coach in the country has turned a schools program around in their 2nd year??? Who ??? Keep haten Badgers... all your Olympic talent and you couldn't beat a coach that put together random athletes from all over the country ... now that's coaching. Again no transfer portal in Muzeralls 2nd year and went to the frozen 4. What you boys going to do when MJ retires? Crash and burn will be the WI program. WOW, we are crossing over so many lines here. Yeah I hate my disabled special needs daughter SO much that I drag to every WI women's home hockey game in the passenger seat of my vehicle. I pay for her tickets, buy her supper/lunch and maybe a pretzel and all sorts of hockey swag. Her smile melts my heart. These are all things that she'd never be able to experience without me and her mom providing financially and emotionally for her. And yes I love my wife too, she's the rock of the family. I'm nothing without her. I also love my mom, sister, daughter in law and my new grand-daughter/2041 WI recruit Kinley (Watts a cute name!). My sons are ok lol.

It's also ironic that you are attacking men who love and support WOMEN'S college hockey. It's the best game on the planet! F-off, I'm so done with you and your antics.

For the record, the 2017-18 Ohio State team had two transfers on it: Jacyn Reeves spent her freshman year at Union before going to OSU, and Charly Dahlquist played two years at North Dakota, before they went out of business.

What was until recently known as the 'one-time transfer exception' did not exist in 2017-18; but the grad transfer rule did, as did the exception allowing undergrads experiencing coaching changes to transfer (how and why the two mentioned above were allowed to transfer to OSU).
