Ohio State 2024-25 Domination of the Portal Queen!

How would we know now that the initial settlement with the NCAA now vacated and a new one not set? Let's just say unless caps are set OSU has deeper pockets than any other program.

What?!? There is something that all your "inside info" has not been told to you?!?

There will certainly be a "cap".

It seems the new world order is driven by how much revenue the team actual generates for an institution. So attendance , merchandise sales, NIL monies generated all will matter in determining how much players get paid. It will be less about sharing revenues from other sports. You make it, you keep it.

It's not all about money. Players still want to play for someone who they trust and for a program that gives them what they want besides money. Plus, if your school's pockets are so deep for women's hockey, where's that new sheet of ice? All Tosu care about is football. Nothing else matters.

Money... It's certainly there for slOwSU but is it really there for a fringe sport like WCH? I guess it remains to be seen. Telling that the muzzinator mentions that maybe someone would like to make a donation? That is a more likely the way it happens. Maybe some of the yuckeye posters on here pony up?

Sounds like no progress ... shocking with the deep pockets there

Unless a mega donor steps up you can't expect any university to make a 100 million expenditure with no finalization of the NCAA settlement yet. And don't forget the new lawsuit filed by SD claiming discrimination and disparity against female student athletes. Who knows what that will if anything bring about or change? Obviously we're not happy with the situation but we just have to wait until everything falls into place in the new system, whatever it will end up being in college sports.

The SD lawsuit suggests that part of the NCAA settlement is basically withholding one type of payment in lieu of another. I can see how a judge might not agree to that given it was negotiated by a small number of schools yet it impacts all schools. I am not sure if disparity toward female athletes will get traction. If college athletes are now to be considered professionals and get paid then that pay has to be linked to a tangible ROI. The revenue generated by all sports isn't equal and therefore the participants pay won't be equal.

That's how I understood it as well. But to comply with Title IX
For every paid male athlete there must be a paid female athlete but as you mentioned not necessarily paid equal amounts.

We received an update today about the Icebreaker Tournament, it's being moved from the Nationwide Ice Hause to the Schott. No other details available yet.

There are a couple different ways to stay TitleIX compliant. It does NOT have to be an exact one-to-one correspondence. Proportionality to the overall student population, equitable opportunity, etc etc.

Adding (after refreshing my memory): two of the three 'components' to overall compliance are 'equity in financial assistance' and 'equivalence in other benefits and opportunities'. But the language describing those never foresaw actual direct payment of athletes, so there's not a lot that arguably cab even be applied to direct payment.

She's begging for money LOL. The new rink is DEAD.

Maybe ticket sales are driving it?

Possibly. I might hear some reasons this weekend but the Ice Hause adjoining Nationwide Arena has a seating capacity about the same as the rink where our team plays which is around 650. There won't be anyone not able to get a ticket with it moved to the Schott since it's the largest on campus college hockey arena in the country seating up to 19,000
On the positive side if they do it the same as for our regular hockey games the parking will be free. The parking at the Ice Hause when the Jackets play is like thirty bucks.

They should slash the prices to fill the place. That will let the right people know that there is a huge interest in OSU Women's hockey.

Who gets the concession sales when OSU plays at the Schott?

The concession stands are manner by parent volunteers for various youth sports and their group gets a cut for their kids sport fees. I did it many years ago for my daughter's softball team. I'm assuming the rest is between the company that's contracted to manage the stands and the University.

Also the first round games on the 25th will have to be early games. The mens team has a game there at 7:00 and seating for it begins at 6:00

Oh wow, I just looked and Oct 26th is a home football game! Even parking at the Schott is filled on football days so how are they going to work that, have the Icebreaker on Fri & Sun?

FYI & FWIW, I'm hopelessly out of town this weekend. Caught off guard by the ultra-early start, I made travel plans that can't be cancelled. The 3 Stars will be relaunching during the Minnesota Series.
