Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

I just hope that Oz doesn't fundamentally change our game plan like he did between last Friday & Saturday's game to be more defense oriented due to the Olympic sized ice. We seem to do much better when we stay on the attack.

Good point. If it's working , don't change it. Go BUCKS Go.

per JSVO and Oz - Curtis Gedig will miss the series in Alaska with the injury he received on Friday night against Notre Dame.

I totally missed his injury Friday. I noticed immediately Saturday when he wasn't out there.

If they are not patient against Alaska then they will lose. We saw on that Saturday night game when the Nanooks took away the long stretch pass and forced the Buckeyes to complete passes just to get across center ice. Our guys didnt know how to react to it and panicked way to much which in turn let the Nanooks. take control of the game. I hope with Greco back they can use some more speed to get the puck deep and go from there.

That Friday game at Alaska always seems to be the toughest. Any points tonight would be a bonus.

Got my new HDMI 30 ft. cable this week so I have the computer feed hooked up to the big screen plasma. All that resolution wasted with low def internet broadcasts. Sigh!

After getting that first goal they went to sleep in their own end.

I was following via live stats and twitter. I was going to ask what the bleep is going on, but you kind of answered that question. Seems like this one is over. Regroup and try to pick up three points tomorrow, I guess.

Game over. 6-1 Alaska wins. Hope the guys make a better effort tomorrow. It's way too late in the season to come out of a series with no points.

That is for sure the worst game of the season that i have witnessed. Brady was not good but his teammates left him out to dry more than once. One sequence that probably decided the game happened early in the 2nd with the game tied a buckeye shot got behind Keeney and Max was right there but couldnt reach the puck and Alaska went right down the ice and scored that 2nd goal and the rest is history. The Friday game up there is so tough to win and the buckeyes have had some success in the saturday night game so lets hope they fix the problems and take back 5th place.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

The Alaska Nanook moniker is based off an Inupiaq (or Inuit or whatever) word for polar bear . This doesn't mean that the team is composed of Eskimos. I hope that the team that represents your state tree doesn't regroup for a Saturday comeback. I hope your goalie gets chased out of the net again.

I also hope that it is a good, clean game of hockey that exemplifies the subtleties of collegiate hockey that, to me, makes it more interesting to watch than NHL hockey.

Go eskimo bears and go ohio tree.

FUNNY!!! Alaska to Eskimoes is phrased as a JOKE and not a slam. You will figure it out once you understand my humor. LOL. I do like your humor in " OHIO TREE " for Buckeyes. :) LOL.

We've come to an understanding :) I just wanna watch good hockey. No injuries and good officiating in the rest of your games.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

I watched the whole thing and I don't know what to say. I HOPE it was just jet lag and playing much later than they're used to. They played flat and without energy, no one was making constant effort to get to the puck first. Defense was collapsing too tight around the net and just bad decisions all around. What really frustrated me was we had more than a few shots on net that their goalie couldn't hold on to where if a teammate had made an effort to get up ice and in position an easy goal could have been tapped in.

Re: Ohio State 2013/2014 - Third year in Oz

I think tonight is a must win if they are going to have any chance at a Bye in the playoffs. I cant imagine we will see that kind of effort again. Last night was just plain awful like hockeybuckeye said they were very flat and got out worked all night long.

Inupiat = the name of the people of Northern and NW AK (Barrow, Nome and Kotzebue being the hub towns of the areas I'm talking about ... as opposed to the similar, but distinct groups in SW AK and Siberia, the Yupik). Inupiaq = the language of the Inupiat people. I don't believe that Alaskan Inupiat people refer to themselves as Inuit, but have no idea if that means they're culturally distinct or not.

Nanook = male polar bear, Nanau (?) = female polar bear. Not really sure of that, but I seem to recall there's a female version of the polar bear name in Inupiaq. This is interesting, and I may be totally FOS, because I don't think the women's teams at Alaska call themselves the "Lady Nanooks", a silly convention of a lot of HS and college teams.

The word Nanook is pronounced NA nook, not na NOOK. The a in NA sounds like the a in happy, not like in awe or balloon. "nook" is really pronounced shorter than the oo in a word like look, and nothing like the oo in balloon. It's more like uk, ... and if you're a Inupiaq speaker, the K sound really is a unique hard sound fairly typical (to my ears) of the Inupiaq language, sounded with the back of the tongue in the back of the throat, kind of like a q and a k together. I think a more accurate spelling is Nanuq. But an American K is fine and is what English speakers use. Just don't emphasize the last syllable, that's the only truly cheechako mistake you could make.

It could be that my understanding proves that a little knowledge is worse than none, but that's about the extent of what I know or think I know having been in those areas years ago.
