Yeah but we all know both you and sparty are having an off year. I heard our loss to Penn was a combination that our coach was at the World Juniors and a lack of considering them a real threat. Underestimating an opponent will get you every time.Don't feel bad about that loss to PSU, sparty lost tonight at their rink.
PSU has definitely got my attention now. Not going to be the easy 4 wins any of us thought net year.
All true. I'm really proud of what the guys what the guys accomplished this weekend. And yet, we do need to be a little realistic. The blowout score was the direct result of "less than stellar" goalkeeping on the part of the Visitors. The Buckeyes were going to win either way, but Lake State is much better than Saturday's score indicates.Well you can't beat jumping out five nothing huh? Maybe 6-0 (sarcasm). Much needed 6 points.
The first shift of the game was awesome. Immediate pressure, good cycle, hit the post but hold it in, cycle again and Sesh buries it from the slot. 2 on the night from him and Riley Simpson with a goal on back to back nights!

Excellent insight, and I strongly suspect you're correct in applying that to the Penn State game.Hockeybuckeye said:...was a combination that our coach was at the World Juniors and a lack of considering them a real threat. Underestimating an opponent will get you every time.
Correct! Western plays next weekend at Ferris, Alaska plays at Miami and we of course host ND. So all teams ahead of us play each other.looks like a very interesting and pivotal weekend coming up. There are five teams ahead of OSU in the standings and the Bucks play one of them in Notre Dame. Alaska and Miami are both ahead of OSU and they play a series in Oxford. Western Michigan and Ferris are also ahead of OSU and those two play each other. If the Bucks are going to make a move - this is definitely the weekend to do it.
I would say that just because they are Penn State does not instantly give them credibility as a hockey team as this is a completely new and unestablished sport for them. Looking at their record and who they have played I feel they are not a real threat to anyone yet. We have a coach at OSU here who has the credentials to really take our program somewhere and he's in his 3rd year here, it would be presumptuous to assume Penn State can rise to a higher level quicker than we can. There is no Brady Hoke humor being played here, just the opinion after talking with our players and others we pretty much let them win. Now that we have a number of key players back from injury last night shows what we're capable of and if we had a rematch with Penn State now I think they'd lose to us bigger than the Lakers did last night. I think we're at least 5 years from Penn State being truly competitive in the B1G.
And as I said, we have a very experienced coach as well but bringing a high level of play takes time no matter who your coach is. What I'm voicing is just an opinion based on how new programs have typically had a history of doing statistically speaking. We'll simply have to let those years roll by to see if I was right or wrong.Penn State has a very experienced collegiate coach in Guy Gadowsky: Click_here to read his bio. Coached at Princeton, Alaska, in the WCHL. Played for Colorado College and in the ECHL, IHL and AHL.
I wouldn't sell the PSU program short, nor put it on a 5 year growth program. I expect to see them come out relatively strong right from the opening whistle in the B1G--they'll be playing with a lot of emotion and desire. They have two young goaltenders: Skoff a freshman and Musico a sophomore. Their team is relatively young as well, and they have all played through many of the same feeder systems as any other college player.
You totally misunderstood my comment. The only point I was making was that the Nittany Lions are not "Penn." Penn is an Ivy League school located in Eastern PA. Best case scenario is Western, Miami and we all sweep which would catapult us into 3rd place and not a bad place to be going into the last month of the regular season.
I'm not concerned about catching Miami or Western at this point, simply finishing high enough to earn a first round bye and a home ice second round!
Apologies if I misunderstood. You totally misunderstood my comment. The only point I was making was that the Nittany Lions are not "Penn." Penn is an Ivy League school located in Eastern PA. I meant to be mostly lightedhearted; when you see an, the poster is probably having some fun. At the same time, I really don't like the idea of insulting other schools by calling them by the wrong name. Leave that to Hoke.
If it really must be said, your analysis of PSU's situation is fine.
This is a pretty big weekend with the top 6 teams all playing each other
I've been around OSU's program since it's beginning in the early 1960's and although my memory isn't exactly stellar anymore I can't ever recall Michigan & Michigan State both being in the basement at the same time this late in the season before. LOL!also very interesting with the bottom two teams playing each other.![]()

I think Ohio State missed this Coach by about one year. Now this Coach has turned a program around very fast. WOW.
