I don't know, but if the ball explodes into confetti, I'm done.
Probably could have played 3 and won by 20.
Ah ha. It's not quite such an "amazing and ridiculous feat" when the reason the German was able to score the touch was because the 15-year-old volunteer forgot to start the clock, so the German had plenty of time to make the touch. What a travesty.Found an article - it was only 1 touch in the last second. Looks like they brought back the clock operator from the 1972 US-Soviet basketball game. It looked like the match was over, but they put 1 second back on the clock, and the German fencer was able to score a touch in that 1 second (which is quite an amazing and ridiculous feat) to take the match since a tie would have gone to the Korean.

The timekeeper @ the 1980 US - USSR hockey game was Clarkson's timekeeper A. George Davis. He volunteered. How could that even happen? "Volunteers"(except for the most experienced) obviously shouldn't have anything to do with timing, judging or conduct of the events. Amazing. And very sad.
Did they beat the spread? It was 50+ vs. Tunisia.83 point victory. Amazing.

While the Russian diva was on the beam someone was doing their floor exercise routine to a song from Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. This music choice should guarantee a gold medal.
Another boxing controversy. Azeri kid gets knocked down 6 times and is awarded the win! Decision overturned, officials sent home, etc. Boxing and figure skating. Figure skating and boxing.

The instrumental part of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond", wasn't it?
Quite the contrast between Gabby's elation and Komova's heartbreak.
I feel bad for Wieber, too... it had to have stung a bit for her to see Raisman come up short.
Watching behind and just heard that. Very vivid and cool.
My one complaint about coverage - I think it would be very cool if they broadcast a split screen when showing results - one half the athlete(s) and the other half the scoreboard that everyone else in the arena is staring at. It's very annoying that the viewer never gets to see that.
I wish I could have caught that bout live and heard Teddy Atlas' ranting.... I can only imagine how embarassed he was for his sport in this....
Brian Papa's quote at the end of the Deadspin video sums it up nicely.... "Everyone here should look at themselves and realize why this sport is considered a joke..."
Back in the day, Olajuwon and Drexler used to play pick up games at the Fonde Recreation Center in Houston. Those two, plus Fatty Arbuckle, Mickey Ronney and Ann Sothern would win some games.
I've been trying to remember which American boxer got hosed so badly in Munich. Cosell's toupee very nearly flew off he was so angry. It was so bad the German crowd was screaming 'schand", 'schand", which IIRC means "shame." The problem, of course, is figure skating and boxing are so darn subjective. But so is gymnastics and even though we have occasional problems, nothing like in the other two sports. Nothing as ridiculous as a guy knocked down 6 times being declared the "winner." East German diving judges? Scary.
