I'm not really sold on it either, but it's supposed to allow more simultaneous content for certain games. I would think this applies to games like the Zelda franchise. You'd have the game being played on the TV while at the same time you'd have Link's various weapons and supplies on the controller screen. Then, as they show in the ads, if you're playing a game and someone else wants to use the TV, you can switch to using the controller like a Gameboy.

Talking with a gamer friend, that's exactly it. You have your "cache" of weapons on the controller screen (instead of toggling), and also the "someone else wants to watch tv" thing.

I can't help it, but I just love playing those stupid Lego video games. I've played the Star Wars games - both sets of trilogies, the Harry Potter games, Indiana Jones, and Batman. I think it's because they're quick, in that you can sit down for a half-hour, play a board or two, and then walk away without having to really think about progress, clues and such that you learn throughout so many games these days. I've heard that the creators have given the characters voices now. That could be a fun addition.

Lego Batman 2 has voices also. The freeplay full sized Gotham is impressive, especially once you get used to the controls for flying Superman.

Is there any reason why GTA III and Vice City are 5 bucks on the Apple Store but 10 bucks on PSN? Looking at the ratings it looks like it's the exact same game, so I'm not getting the difference in price.

Is the Apple store version for a phone? That might explain the difference. Otherwise, maybe Sony is just making a cash grab.

That looks to be it. It's 10 bucks on the Apple "computer" store. I've never downloaded a game like this before (don't plan on it actually but just wondering) but what's different? All the reviews say it's mission by mission the exact same game. Graphics, I guess.

Vice City was a fantastic game (I gather GTA3 was too though I never played it), but I don't know how much fun it would be to play on a tiny phone touch screen.

Touch screen controls can be wonky, especially on smaller screens. It's just not as tactile as an analog stick and buttons.

I have an Atari collection for iPhone that's almost unplayable due to the touch screen. Some games you just need a stick.

Life is Magic for phone/tablet is great freemium game. doest bug you to buy or have ads. uses gps and google maps to generate the world based on real locations and streets near you.

example a local dialysis clinic sold me health potions. another store sold me armor. pretty neat concept.

can group with others even if they arent on. so easy to jump in and play.

XBOX is advertising a new 360 for $99 with a 2-year subscription. How much is the monthly typically? Since I assume the $99 setup would be pretty spartan, how much should I expect to have to spend additionally to make it worthwhile? I assume it would only have one controller so we'd need a 2nd and would want it to be wireless if they aren't all already. Neither myself nor my two sons are huge gamers, but I'd want to have a sufficient amount of memory for HALO or MOA or whatever I suspect they'd want to play but I don't think it would need to be obscene.

A $99 xbox would probably be a 4gb (i'm guessing) system with 1 controller. The 2-years of gold subscription on its own is worth $100. So on that front its a good deal.

The problem is, upgrading the HDD (proprietary) only, costs more than just buying a system with the bigger HDD already on it.

The new Xbox models do support USB memory sticks now, but only up to 32gb I believe.

Playstation has released a Home Arcade App for PS Vita. It works as a cross-buy with PS Home. The App itself is free, and then you can buy old games ($1.49 ea) to play.

If you buy the games for Vita, or buy the games in Home (as cabinets) you get the other version free of charge.

The games so far are:
- Ice Breaker (free)
- Wipeout 2d (free)
- Scribble Shooter
- Centipede
- Lunar Lander
- Asteroids
- Adventure
- Time Pilot
- Frogger
- Shark! Shark!
- Astrosmash

If you use PS Home, its a better value to buy the bundles in Home that include other Home items. If you only use Vita, then it doesn't matter and you can just buy them from the PSN Store.
