Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Played through about 4 ME3 missions so far (Prologue/tutorial on Earth doesn't count).

Does suck about the Day 1 DLC, since even if it isn't necessary it's still a great background story. I got it with the collector's edition, but seems like it should've been included for free with all new games, like they did with ME2.

I kinda see some of the criticisms, but at the same time, it does streamline it. More RPG elements than 2, somewhat less dialogue options. Scanning is way easier. graphics and action are ramped up. soundtrack is as spiffy as ever. Definitely trying to pull at the emotions more than 1 or 2.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

My point was that gaming has gotten awfully expensive. I'm glad I already traded in my PS3. This isn't about you :p

The funny thing is, gaming has actually gotten cheaper with the advent of the compact disc and it's kin. IIRC... Cartridges for SNES used to cost upwards of $70 a pop. In 1992. That's over $113 in today's dollars.

About 7 hours in and I still haven't come across a paragon/renegade dialouge option, which is a little dissapointing, and as had been noted ad nauseam online, some of the conversations feel much more like cut scenes than what was the norm in ME1 & ME2. Nevertheless, I really enjoy the combat system upgrades, and there have been a few laugh out loud moments (Joker and EDI have a couple great ones). I have a feeling ME2 will end up being the superior game in my book, but still having a great time playing through 3.

Seems like quite a few of the scathing reviews are being spewed by 14 year old boys in reaction to BioWare's "post don't ask, don't tell" story lines. To be expected, I guess, but they didn't seem to mind when it was FemShep and Liara in 1

Football Manager 2012 is $11.99 (-60%) for the next 23 hours on Steam.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the reputation meter is for at this point, because I haven't seen any obvious uses of it and I'm 10 hours and about 5 main missions (and plenty of side missions) in. I get they're trying to alleviate having to play a full paragon/renegade, but I haven't seen any indication the reputation meter matters at all, yet.

I'd agree that so far ME2 is the superior game. I think ME3 is better on the combat (since it's essentially ME2's combat with improvements) and the added weapons/armor/inventory elements. But it seems like the plot line has been way over-streamlined to this point - lots of dialogue without any choices and minimal interaction. And I understand they're trying to get everyone from the past that's still alive a cameo, but seems like they could've cut out one or two of the new characters to give the series regulars more airtime. At least they kept Garrus around as a playable squadmate.

But we'll see. based on the numbers I'm only about 1/4th to 1/3rd of the way done.

Finished a couple days ago. The paragon/renegade options do start showing up later in the game, but despite going full paragon I wasn't able to select one during my entire play. You defiantly need to do the majority of side missions to have those options available which is a bit of a departure from ME2.

I hate how when NHL 12 decides you're going to lose, there's nothing you can do about it.

Just outshot a guy 32-9, yet he wins 3-0. And all 3 of his goals were tips from the point. I had a half dozen 1 timers from the slot, and 2 breakaways.

Dubstep. Automatic 0/10.

Anybody played SSX? It's been pretty fun but I suppose that's only because I have friends to play it with and have been battling to demolish their scores and times.

Death Knights, giving Blizzard's holy tirnity of tank/heal/dps tfinger.

(This fight is still difficult even with a properly setup group, let alone just a bunch of death knights)

I just bought a PS3. I'm finally coming into the current generation of video game equipment. Are there any good, older games people would suggest I pick up used (or those that would be new in the $20 greatest hits section)? What about the first two Uncharted games, are they worth it?

Wonder if the computer saw you're from UNH and just let things take their normal course?

Check out the Saints Row series. Like GTA, but decided to avoid the realism approach and kept with the "let's light ourselves on fire and ride a 4-wheeler around a shopping mall setting people on fire while blasting The Final Countdown." 2 turned the insanity up to 11 and is the best in the series. 3 decided to go completely off the reservation, and is basically the most insane game ever created. Don't be scared off by the hip-hop theme, the customization is awesome. Ninjas, man.

GT5. Overrated at launch, but hey, it's Gran Turismo and if you've never played it, jump in.

LittleBigPlanet is probably a little cutesy for you, but there are - literally - millions of user-created levels.

Does L.A. Noir live up to the hype?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

I only have one PS3 game (I know I know) and it's GT5. It's worth it, for the many hours of gameplay.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

I really enjoyed it. If you like GTA type games set in the past, you probably would enjoy it.
I've never played a GTA game. The closest I've come is the Simpsons knock-off game released a few years ago.
