Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close
On to the games for Vita!
Little Deviants - Came with the bundle, otherwise I probably would never own it. Colorful, level based game where you roll around the screen avoiding bad guys, collecting hearts, stars and the key to exit the level. Some traps and such along the way as you would expect with this type of game. The game is completely controlled by the back touch pad. You deform the land to make your character move. This seems brilliant, but in practice on the first few levels I found it very hard to control the movement of my character. Seems like a simple and entertaining game, but the controls make me not want to play it much.
Touch My Katamari - If you have ever played Katamari, you know what you are getting. Pure awesome of course. Offers both classic and standard control schemes. The touch pad is used in both modes, but only for stretching or squishing the katamari. Otherwise in classic mode you are using the dual analog sticks just like on the console. The King is as colorful and insane as usual. You can collect cousins, clothing items, etc. just like in previous iterations. There is a PS Store link, which makes me hopeful there will be additional content in the future.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss - I was a bit reluctant to pay a full $50 for a portable game, but the Uncharted series has been good so I took a chance. Game looks great on the handheld. The controls seem tight, which for a shooter is fairly important. Climbing/Jumping uses some unique controls, that I like. You can swipe your finger across several ledges, tracing the path you want Drake to take and he does it. No need to slowly go one ledge at a time. Melee combat also can use the touch features (or buttons). You can tap and swipe the screen to attack and dodge. Seems well designed.
The other big selling point of this game is the collectibles. There are something like 300 of them, and not all can be collected in a single playthrough. It also uses a black market system where you can trade collectible bounties with others, so that you can find items that weren't available to you previously. I haven't used this feature yet (its day 1!). So not sure how well it works.
