Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Right, I understand that. Just that I feel like I kind of wander aimlessly, keep running into mountains I can't scale, etc.

Yeah, you can fast travel to places that you have discovered. When you haven't been there before, you have to hoof it.

Yeah, some places, especially in the mountains which Skyrim is full of are only accessible via one or two paths, so it can take a while to find. That is probably the most annoying part of the game. (Well that and the occasional bug, I am one bug shy of completing every achievement). The flip side, is alot of places in valleys can be gotten to by scaling down mountains, and doing it that way is great for ranged characters,as it usually provides a great place to snipe from. As Bak said, horses are available for purchase (and some as quest rewards) though I generally do not use mine outside of fast travel. Though if you end up finding Shadowmere, he is a great combatant for a horse.

GameSpot has digital downloads of Civ III complete for $4.99 and Civ V for $7.49 but Civ IV is $19.99

Has anyone played FIFA Manager 12 on the PC?

Odd about Civ 4. Steam has the Civ 5 franchise at 75% off today, I think it made the regular version $10.49. I picked up 5 or so of the downloadable content packs at $1.69 each.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Went and purchased the upgrades I mentioned a few weeks ago (8gb RAM, 1gb video card, win 7 64 bit) and when I installed the new graphics card (Radeon 4650) I can no longer get Skyrim to work. It usually crashed within 5-10 seconds of loading though sometimes doesn't load at all. The auto-detect suggested high settings, and tried dropping down to medium with no result. I've uninstalled the old drivers (at least as far as I know, I can't find any trace of them), installed the new drivers from the install cd and updated them online. The control panel seems to suggest everything is installed correctly. So today I get the fun task of trying to troubleshoot the problem.

Have you tried any other games? That might at least point you towards whether its a general video card/drivers issue or something specific with skyrim.

FM11 works fine, Civ5 works fine for 45min-1hour then the system shut down, just internet browsing etc works fine. I'm thinking it's an overheating issue, for now I switched the cards back out until I figure out if it's a problem I can easily fix. It didn't seem too hot but it's acting like it and was a bit hot when I pulled it out.

Made it to level 20 on SW:TOR. I'm on my 3rd planet (Taris).

After Act I as a Republic Gunslinger (Ranged DPS, minor CC) I finally got my own spaceship and can participate in space battles, escort missions, etc. It's also nice to be able to pick the planet I want to visit, although each has a level range associated with it. Have done a few group (Heroic) missions. They range from solo with your companion to too difficult for the level you can access them at even with 4 people.

Like a dumbass, I allowed myself to become a Stage 4 vampire in Skyrim. Annoying as can be.

What are the pros/cons to being a Vampire? Haven't looked at it Skyrim as I remember it being really annoying in Oblivion. Not a huge fan of being a werewolf in Skyrim either.

Had an interesting development in my current FM11 game. Italy just won the 2022 World Cup and both the right and left backs from Italy are from my team and both made the World Cup Dream Team, but the right back doesn't even get playing time on my squad. He made no appearances last season and only 4 the year before, and at the age of 23 he's been on my team since 2015.

You get some pretty cool powers like invisibility and seduction, but on the downside once your vampirism becomes severe, you get attacked on sight. Makes it near impossible to do anything.

So right before the new year i pre-order a PSVITA. Got the first ed. bundle that gets you the system a week early (2/15 instead of 2/21).

Also separately pre-ordered Touch my Katamari (2/21) for it yesterday. Not many of the release games interest me. Maybe Dragons Crown, or when MLB and FIFA come out.

I received a steering wheel and a stand for Christmas, so GTA5 has come back out. The wheel does add considerable fun to the proceedings.

I wasn't even aware GTA5 had already come out!

Ok, as a very casual gamer, but is really into the games he has.....steering wheel worth it?

I'd only buy the $200+ version. To the casual gamer, definitely not worth it. I'm still waiting for it to go on megasale before I even consider it.

That's what I figured. I ask because that Redbull Car in GT5 is a beech sometimes to race with.
