Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I have to agree that Nintendo baseball is probably the best baseball video game ever, but I want to virtually take the Cubs to the World Series.

This is where it's at!

Seriously, just go with that... I have found that "old school" baseball games entertain me more than the newer ones for the reasons you stated... One button to throw, one to swing, and one to run... That's all you need...
Awesome reference, but come on, RBI was where it's at. Equally simple mechanics but with actual players!

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Seriously though, how about a game for a current console? I'd rather not have to resort to a game for the Wii, but if that's my only option....

While I don't have a baseball game for any current console, I think the general market trend for sports games has become more "challenge" as opposed to the entertainment value you prefer. While you could use the tuning sliders to make things considerably easier, I'm not sure if that is the route you want to go.

The most fun I've had with a baseball game on any of the big 3 consoles was MLB Power Pros 2008 for Nintendo Wii, very cheesy graphics but the easiest to just sit back and have fun playing. When I was on my last wii kick, I played that game quite a bit and it was a blast despite the cheesy graphics.

Sony has backed off their "by the end of the week" timetable for PSN coming back online. It's now "within a month." Im not holding my breath anymore about PSN coming back.

The hackers who did this better hope they don't get caught...while normally I would say the government would find a use for these losers there is no way they won't spend the rest of their lives in Federal Pound Me in the *** Prison.

I don't have a PS3, but I play DC Universe Online, and being shut down this long is almost certain to destroy the game.

Re: Baseball game question

I'm looking for a baseball series that has a rather easy approach to hitting, or can be set that way. I picked up MLB 09 The Show this weekend and I pretty much hate it. I'm looking for a baseball game where a toddler could pick up the controller and start launching bombs out of the park. I have no patience for the "challenge" of a video game. I just want to pick up the controller, and spank about every team 15-1. For me it's only about the entertainment value. Striking out every time I'm at the plate does not entertain me. I have all the latest generation consoles, so you won't need to limit your recommendations based on that. Also, I'd appreciate recommendations for prior year games so I can pick it up used at Gamestop.

Thanks

You can use MLB 11 The Show, set the hitting to Rookie/Timing and set all the human sliders to the right. Set the CPU pitcher so it consistently throws strikes so you don't have to worry about swinging at bad pitches. If you really want, just edit every batter on your team to full stats and they'll basically never miss. With the sliders set and players edited, you could probably swing as soon as the pitcher starts his windup and still hit the ball.

Re: Baseball game question

I have yet to play Portal 2 co-op, nobody to play it with.

That said, I played through the Single Player again today...finished in 2 hours 40 minutes including load times, opening and closing cutscenes, and credits. I recorded the whole playthrough, and am thinking of overlaying commentary and posting on YouTube.

It's far from a speed run, I had two absurdly stupid deaths and a couple massive brainfarts. I also took time to enjoy things overall. But it's a solid run, for sure. If I really put effort into it, I bet I could get the run down under 2:20 or so.

Were you looking at the steam counter for that? Because that has reported like 33 minutes for a playthrough. The game is longer than that just due to the time it takes to move from place to place. Perhaps you got caught by the bug where you missed a large section of the game.

Edit, nevermind, just burned through up to The Itch... for science. And it was only about an hour and forty minutes. The average for each chapter was about 14 minutes with the first one being the longest. So 2:10 is about the shortest possible play time using averages for the final two chapters.

Heard a rumor that the hacking of Sony will cost them $1.25 billion when all is said and done. (if the PSN comes back by the end of the month) That company is in real trouble.

I don't have Steam. Never used it.

And yeah, the speed runners are insane, taking advantage of glitches and stuff. 33 minutes for Portal 2? I dunno if I buy that.

I absolutely do. Heck, I'll be shocked if it doesn't end up under 20 soon.

Speed runners are insane. Look up some speed runs for Quake or any of the 2D Metroid games. Some of the Metroid runs intentionally try to finish with as low a completion % as possible.

Apparently I need to put the Orange Box back in and find out what the big deal is about Portal.

33 minutes is just nuts though. I mean, I suppose it's possible. But I'm incredibly skeptical. If there's a big glitch that allows you to skip several chambers (and I wouldn't be surprised if there was), then I could buy it. But playing through EACH chamber as the game is meant to be played? You're lucky if that's under an hour.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Don't even THINK that thought, you *er.:mad::mad:

Although, at least it's a good DVD player. And the games would be cheaper. BUT STILL.:mad::mad::mad:

All Microsoft needs to do is drop the 360 to $149 right now and gamers will flee Sony like rats.

And they can do it, too. I remember when the original XBox came out they took a $150 loss every time they sold one. They made it back on games. Give 'em the razors, sell 'em the blades.

This sucks so bad. While I didn't read the article, is the $1.25B figure actual costs, or combo of costs and lost revenue. That is a HUGE difference in my eyes.
