Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

This has been a pretty long generation. It just seems short because technology moves so fast.

Playstation - 1994
Playstation 2 - 2000
Playstation 3 - 2006
?? - 2014

N64 - 1996
Gamecube - 2001
Wii - 2006
Wii 2 - 2012

Xbox - 2001
Xbox 360 - 2005
?? - 2014

eta: Plus the 360 had at least 3 versions and the PS3 had 2 in this gen. So its not like that isn't a total money grab.
I think the timing of new console releases has to do with firmware updates being possible now (my PS3 has changed dramitcally in what it can do since I bought it day 1) and the time and money it takes to develop games for the PS3 and 360. With the Wii firmware updates haven't changed the capabilities too greatly in the last 4 years (at least not to the extent of the other two) and well I have no idea on development costs on the Wii.

I literally can't believe this has not appeared on this thread yet (my apologies if Search Fail). I saw the ad on Archer and my jaw dropped.

NSFW (obviously)

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Ok, Red Dead is like GTA? * that. I like challenging games, but GTA was way too *ing complicated and deep to have fun with. I saw Yager's roommate playing it one day, and it looked interesting, but if it's that in depth, forget it.

Obviously, I'll probably end up getting the sports games, and I still have my PS2, so adding PS3 games will be a slow process, in the way that if I think about it, I'll pick up a game here and there.

The Fallout games sound interesting.
I wouldn't say GTAIV and RDR are alike. Its just made by the same company and its an open world game.

Actually I think I own every game on that list --other than FIFA-- I gave you, so if you want to try any of them we could work that out.

Well, apparently ALL YOUR INFORMATION ARE BELONG TO US.

I don't remember using a credit card, so I guess the only thing that worries me is the password, but there's who knows how many users (actually I'm sure there's a number but I'm too lazy to look) there are so I don't see it as that big of a deal.

Went ahead and blocked my card. Debating placing a fraud alert out to the credit bureaus.

As soon as PSN comes back up, I'm deleting all my information, then introducing the PS3 to my Jeep. I'll post pictures.

Here is their actual statement:

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

1.Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2.Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
3.Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it:

U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.

We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus place a “fraud alert” on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however, that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you, it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report, please contact any one of the agencies listed below.

Your state Attorney General may also have advice on preventing identity theft, and you should report instances of known or suspected identity theft to law enforcement, your State Attorney General, and the FTC. For North Carolina residents, the Attorney General can be contacted at 9001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-9001; telephone (877) 566-7226; or www.ncdoj.gov. We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions.

Went ahead and blocked my card. Debating placing a fraud alert out to the credit bureaus.

As soon as PSN comes back up, I'm deleting all my information, then introducing the PS3 to my Jeep. I'll post pictures.
I downloaded my free copies of my credit report from annualcreditreport.com so I could have a "before" record. Probably took 10 minutes to get all 3 and save them via PDF. Easy.

I had just replaced my credit cards recently, so I doubt I am at risk there. The only thing I will need to do is change my password. As far as having my name, address, profile info, etc. I don't really care. Anyone can find that via the internet. Not exactly personal.

I have no plans to destroy my PS3. :p I will just be more careful about what I buy from them and how I buy it. This could have happened to Microsoft just as easily. No one is immune.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

*sigh*.... I just changed most of my passwords when the Gawker thing went down. I'd like it if Sony could get PSN back up so I could check whether that account was on an old one or a new one and figure out what I have to change again.

I'd also like it if they could give a definitive answer on whether credit card information was taken, of course.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Oddly enough, I still haven't received my "we screwed the pooch big time" e-mail from Sony. Anyone else not get one?

I haven't got the email yet. But with 75 million users it could take awhile to send them all.

The manager of the Gamestop I go to said his email was just basically a copy of the letter they have online.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Class action lawsuit already filed against Sony. Poo poo just got real.

Sony needs to save face right now with a settlement. At minimum two years of credit monitoring for anyone affected, and maybe a generous amount of Wallet funds. If it ends up being a $10 gift card you will see gamers cutting them into ribbons on YouTube.

I'm fairly confident we'll see something, something more substantial than what you'd get from a class action suit. As one comment said on IGN "Sweet, I can't wait to get my $12 check in 2027!"

I was a member of the Microsoft one and that was a pretty good return. More than expected from most class action lawsuits.

I could join the EA one that's going on right now as well. Not sure if its worth it or not.

This is horrible for PR, and will hurt business if they don't do something more substantial as you say...$12 in 15 years isn't going to keep people happy and using the PSN...

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

For FIFA '11, how long does it take for them to get a roster update so it's current? I mean, Teemu Tainio has been on the Red Bulls all season and DeRosario for three weeks, yet they're no where to be found. What gives?

Tried to do this. They were asking me questions I had no idea of the answer to, like roommates from college I'd never heard of. Got one, but timed out on the second trying to print the first one and couldn't get the third.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Do you have to give them credit card information when you sign up? I've never actually bought anything on PSN, so unless it was part of the sign-up deal I can't imagine they have any of that info. I'm just drawing a blank on that part.
