Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Did you just say its a dumb idea to make a game for a peripheral? That kind of would defeat the whole Sony Move argument. :p
Yes, except many of the games that are being created for the Move are not just for the Move. They have Move support, but most are not entirely dependent on the Move. I don't think it is a good idea to develop something for only the Move, the option to play with a Dualshock3 is better, and that's Sony's whole point. Nintendo basically wants everything motion control, the classic controller is supposed to be just for the classic games, that's all.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Also, I don't think Nintendo cares what EA or anyone else is doing on any system. :D

DS - 128 million units sold since 2004
Wii - 70 million units sold since 2006

Xbox 360 - 40 million units sold since 2005
PS3 - 36 million units sold since 2006

If you go last gen, then Sony is the leader with PS2. But even then Nintendo was making money hand over fist.

PS2 - 142 million units sold since 2000
GBA - 81 million units sold since 2001
Xbox - 24 million units sold since 2001
Gamecube - 22 million units sold since 2001

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Yes, many developers have already stated that. Blu-ray discs have the space to do it, so they don't run as much risk, just a slightly higher development cost.
Did you just say they need a blu-ray disc space to code in motion control?

In addition to the space needed for the standard controls and everything else.

Did they not teach reading comprehension at your schools?

No it was just such a ridiculous statement that I had to be sure. There's been a simple mod to use the wiimote with a computer for ages. Hell, many computer games have long had the ability to use a mouse/keyboard or a console controller without requiring the need for blu-ray disc storage size to do it. The idea that they would need a considerable amount of space to change the control scheme is just absurd.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Foxton nailed this. THe code is tiny compared to the rest of the game, sound, and prerendered videos. Utterly minuscule.

I think Foxton also is on the right path in that this is going to be another expensive Eye Toy. What a flop that was. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Sony doesn't know how to develop peripherals (and/or market them). Never has, never will.

I'm not saying that they have to change it to motion control and will need the space to fit that control scheme in, I'm saying that to include both control schemes and have great graphics and sound, you may want that extra space. Games these days require a lot of storage space to fit everything in, trying to add in even the miniscule amount for motion control on top of everything else can be a factor on systems where storage space is limited. With only ~ 8.5 GB on a disc, to try to fit in standard and motion control along with game, sound, video etc. means you might have to scale back on something else.

Jim, the code required to use "motion control" which is really just a different way to record X,Y, and possibly Z coordinates is in KB, it's practically a several page text file. Graphics, sound, and the game engine itself are in MB or GB. It's infinitely small compared to every other part of the game.

Here, look. A program to use your wiimote as a mouse for your PC. The program doesn't even take up 400kb.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

there hasn't been a game released that filled up an entire DVD let alone blu-ray.

Not to be out done, 2k Sports showed off NHL 2k11 for the Wii...

Broken sticks (or at least players losing their sticks) seems to be added into this game too. From what I can see in the video, it's just some minor updates to 2k10.

I don't think I'd buy both, I'll likely buy EA's, and rent 2k's. I just don't want to see 2k give up after this year, because I have a feeling that EA's isn't going to be a one year cycle.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

There are two more DLCs to be announced along with release dates during this summer. These will likely not be free.

Also coming this summer for free will be the Expert Hunter and Savvy Merchant outfits along with the challenges that unlock them.

I've been screwing around with the online stuff and I've managed to get to lvl 10, but it seems like people online are more interested in killing other players than teaming up to kill bad guys.

I already got both for the Xbox 360, but if you don't own either, I recommend picking them up.

They also just released a demo version of ME2 for Xbox 360 and PC. In the demo you play the mission to recruit Subject Zero. That'll give you a taste of the game if you haven't played it yet. One of my friends downloaded the demo the other day and now he's getting addicted to it :)

I'm still playing through it and I already know a few things I'll do differently the second time around.

Pokemon Black/White has a placeholder date of 4/1/2011 now. That won't be the release date as that is a Friday. Pokemon games always come out on Sundays.

Tempting but Red Dead will keep me busy for a while longer. Accidentally killed my horse. Thank goodness I bought the piece of paper so I could get er back.
