Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I'd HIGHLY recommend www.cheapassgamer.com for this kind of stuff. They are absolutely on the ball when it comes to video game deals (as well as blu-ray). They typically post the ads from best buy and the other major players well over a week before they come out on regular basis (read: weekly).

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Lego Harry Potter Yrs 1-4 & Naughty Bear come out Tuesday.

I'll be getting both! :D

If you haven't seen Naughty Bear yet, check it out. Its basically a bear that kills other bears with weapons or the environment.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Steam has several hundred games on sale for summer today. Some of them are today only specials. Some are as cheap as $1.00.

Worth browsing through. I found a few I am picking up.

Spent $28 on:

Avencast
Overlord
Overlord: Raising Hell
Overlord II
Machinarium
The Maw
The Maw Brute Force
The Maw River Redirect
The Maw Speeder Lane

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Woo quadruple post! :D

I was playing WSM09 over the weekend as USA head man. I found a slight issue with the game.

For the Gold Cup all the teams send their A-squads (except me). In reality most send their U23 teams. So I was disheartended to see my B team vs the Mexico A team will be the Semifinal.

I took 4th place in the Confed Cup.
I won all 3 of my group stage games against Iraq, Italy, and Egypt. The I lost in the semi's to Brazil and the 3rd place game to Italy (both 1-0 scores).

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Last night playing The Show I took a ball OVER the budweiser deck in Target Field during batting practice. I couldn't believe how far that thing went. Didn't get a distance since it was BP...

Let us know how Naughty Bear is. While the trailer is hilarious, I'm not sure if it's one of those games where I'll enjoy the slaughter the first time but then the joke gets old fast and replay value isn't much, or if I'll continue to enjoy it. I can see this one going either way for me.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

First, Lego Harry Potter is amazing. I played a couple hours and I haven't even finished the first story yet.

A ton of places to go, all very familiar if you read the books/saw the movies.

Magic is new. Some of it acts like force powers did in Lego Star Wars, others do unique things.

Still collecting studs, completing stories, buying unlockable characters, items, extras.

Naughty Bear:
Only played through the tutorial and the first section of the first level so far, but it was definitely fun.

- Multiplayer (3-4 modes), leaderboards.
- Unlock levels, costumes, items.
- Medals/trophies in game for doing things well, fast, etc. that are part of what unlock things.

You can scare bears, there is also a "super scare". Scared bears will either hide or try to get help.

If you mess with a bear enough mentally he/she will go over the edge (basically they kill themselves).

You can beat up a bear until its limping and wounded and then have the option to do an "ultra kill" which is a little animation.

You can use world items to kill/harm bears. You also have access to weapons and traps.

If you destroy things the bears like that scores you points. You can also sabotage things that passing bears will try to fix. Which then gives you a chance to sneak up on them.

The naughtier you are the more naughty points you score. The faster you do things the higher your naughty multiplier goes.

Within the game there is also timed modes, such as kill all the bears in a time limit.

Do the games follow the books or the movies?

I saw the first movie once way back when and don't remember it. I have never seen the others. So everything I have seen in the game relates to the books for me.

I can't speak to what was in the movies, so I wouldn't know the difference.

The movies depart significantly from the books.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Give me examples in the first 4 books vs movies and I can look for those differences in the game. That would be the only way to tell.

Is Peeves in the games? :p

Does Harry wait around for a month after hearing from Hagrid, or go to school right away (even though it's August 1:p)?

Do the main characters wear robes, or everyday clothes?

I haven't met peeves yet, but the ghosts are in the game so I am guessing he is as well. As Nearly Headless Nick leads you around to the next area of the school between levels.

The cutscenes don't show how much time has passed (unless its a holiday scene), so you wouldn't be able to tell if there was a time lapse. I mean its a cutscene after all, with lego characters that can't talk. :p

The characters wear robes or uniforms if at school. Although during the xmas break part when they open gifts Ron and Harry are in regular clothes. Yes they do get the crappy sweater and invis cloak!

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

100% Complete/100% Achievements for Lego Harry Potter in about 19 hours.

Now on to Naughty Bear.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I've started playing FIFA 10. I've never played a soccer game before, so I suck. But so far, it's incredibly fun. The game is fluid and you have to really think before acting.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Crackdown 2 today!

Fairly excited about it, but it is not made by Real Time Worlds this time. So mildy concerned if it will be the same experience.
