Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Crackdown 2 today!

Fairly excited about it, but it is not made by Real Time Worlds this time. So mildy concerned if it will be the same experience.

I've mentioned this in earlier Video Games threads, but I was disappointed in the original Crackdown. The game itself was fun, but once you completed it, it was dullsville. I expected to be able to cruise around the city and create random chaos ala GTA, but not so. I'll wait for yours and others reviews before I pull the trigger on the sequel.

So far: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more enemies.

Not only are you fighting "the cell" who will shoot a flare to let their friends know where you are, but are you are also fighting freaks by the 100s at a time.

You basically can not walk 5 feet without being shot at from 3 directions. :D

I've been running out of ammo a lot early on, so I use H2H to subdue 3-4 guys and then take their gun/ammo.

Woo quadruple post! :D

I was playing WSM09 over the weekend as USA head man. I found a slight issue with the game.

For the Gold Cup all the teams send their A-squads (except me). In reality most send their U23 teams. So I was disheartended to see my B team vs the Mexico A team will be the Semifinal.

I took 4th place in the Confed Cup.
I won all 3 of my group stage games against Iraq, Italy, and Egypt. The I lost in the semi's to Brazil and the 3rd place game to Italy (both 1-0 scores).

The World Cup has had me playing WSM08 alot lately. In February of 2013, I have Foggia as a pretty dominant team with a nice young core that is signed for at least 2 more years. About the only thing keeping me back is I've had stadium expansion rejected twice by the city council, and the youth training area was so bad to start it will take me a while to get that updated which is key as I tend to buy mostly young players. In fact my scouts are all instructed to look at only 22 and under players.

Thinking about starting a game with Austria Wien (same team I spent most of WSM07 playing) because I enjoyed having my B team have a fairly permanent spot in the second division, and the looser non-EU signing rules. But having to overcome the built in bias against the Austrian league and players wanting to bolt was annoying.

Steam has several hundred games on sale for summer today. Some of them are today only specials. Some are as cheap as $1.00.

I've noticed, picked up GTA IV for $5 the other day. Now if only I can get over it making me motion sick, I'll be able to enjoy it.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I've gotten a decent amount of time in on Crackdown 2 now to give a more accurate account of it.

The game uses more of a cel-shade style so it seems a bit darker and less crisp.

If you played CD1 this is the same city with new problems. There isn't anything groundbreaking here. It's really a straight copy of the first with a few new wrinkles.

There is an online drop-in/drop-out mode that you can choose each time you play your campaign. You can allow anyone, allow just friends, or allow no one. I'd recommend allowing no one if you are doing mundane collection tasks or if you are trying to finish the game in single player. Otherwise you may get ambushed by some punk when you aren't paying attention.

Co-op should be (no one i know owns it yet, so haven't tried) awesome because the number of enemies is off the charts, especially when claiming tactical locations. Sometimes you have no idea where the last 17 rockets that just crushed you in 4 seconds came from.

Some weapons are turret mounted both on buildings and on vehicles. That makes some enemies even more dangerous as they can now chase you and fire a high volume of rounds at the same time!

Ultimately if you like co-op or online this game is probably a great buy for you. Because it will have a lot of life to it. Single player can be challenging and fun, but it does seem short (although i am not near done yet).

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Picked up Dragon Quest IX for DS today.

I needed a new RPG to play and this seems to meet my needs from reading/posting on the GameFaq forums.

I considered Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3. But I am not sure I want to play half RPG half sim date.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Anyone else that owns NCAA 11 having serious issues with the game being insanely slow and freezing?

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Really enjoying FIFA 10.

I wanna pick up WC 2010 but there's no way I'm dropping 60 on that game...how long do you think before it comes down in price?

This has been excellent so far btw. No character development as far as your party is concerned but a decent enough storyline and a ton of content, especially post-game to keep you busy for a 100+ hours.
