Official Thread of the Leftover League

My preference (not that i'm saying i think it will turn out this way ...)
UAA
UAF
SCSU
Mankato
Bemidji
NMU
LSSU
Tech

It retains enough to still call itself the WCHA. It still has the coolest trophy. I'm flexible on the LSSU spot but I have to give them the nod of success over BGSU ... if it had to be Western or Ferris that'd be fine too but I'd be just as happy to have UAH as either of those. NMU as a former WCHA member is a must have.

I recognize that this idea leaves up to two CCHA programs out in the cold. But 8 is pretty much the best number for conference membership. But if those 4 AHA teams are really looking to move then joining with two michigan schools would be a decent regional fit.

I'd add that I like the regional mix .. two alaska teams .. 3 minnesota teams ... 3 michigan teams.

Then we can prove that Minnesota > Michigan. ;)

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

So bigblue and I were talking(after a few beers) and we have decided that there should be 2 - 8 team conferences and they should never play another game outside of those 16 teams. This would create an anomaly within the Pairwise Rankings because there would be no way to compare these 16 teams to the other 43 teams. Giving the new WCHA/CCHA conferences an advantage in at large bids. What do you think? That would be a great way to say F you to the B1G mistake and bhhc.

I think then the Pairwise committee just does another "tweak" to eliminate the discrepancy. I know I'd prefer that UAA never again schedule any of these BHHC teams but hoping to get 15 other teams to do the same ain't gonna happen.

Edit: and on a quick re-think ... I'd miss seeing BU, Michigan, BC, Maine etc ... all of whom have visited UAA's rink more than once for our annual tournament. So yeah ... overly spiteful cutting of the nose to spite the face there prolly.

The only tweak would be going back to a smoke filled room, the PWRs have no way to fairly compare 16 teams with an insular schedule to the rear, it's math. I'll go into it if you want...

This might be your best post ever.

I'm in with this.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Tech isn't folding. and we are raging. and that's ok. it wasn't over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor and it isn't over now!!! **** it!!!

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

F2b&g, that has been published all over...

The conference yes, didn't know the day was out there.

FWIW:

the attitude in houghton is not that pessimistic at all. they look at it as an opportunity to win games and get into the post season and then anything can happen.Getting into the postseason is what matters recruiting wise more than anything else.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Why does everyone now put together UAA and UAF? Unless there's just one megaconference, I think as long as there are two they'll be kept apart. Everything in the world has changed in college hockey, EXCEPT the Alaska exemption, and the leftover league is gonna have enough things to worry about, making two trips to Alaska shouldn't be another.

Then why did you move up from D-II (I know, D-II hockey was dying)??? But if you're going to move up and not commit the resources then it seems the reasoning to move up was flawed to begin with.
How the hell do I know? I'm not part of the administration (which is not the same now that it was then.)

Everybody keeps telling me what should be. I'm telling you what is. Most fans I know are very ****ed at the way things have gone, but the only thing we control is whether we buy tickets or not.

Re: Official Thread of the Leftover League

Really? You're going to compare recruiting at the Air Force Academy to recruiting at Minnesota State? And 2500 is not a good crowd at a school that expects the program to be self-supporting. We have a nearly 5,000 seat barn.

Nobody at Air Force had ever heard of anyone in Atlantic Hockey except for Army and UConn when we joined, and most fans still don't know where those schools are. But they sure show up to watch them lose. Even when CC is filling up the World Arena half an hour away, Air Force still pulls in fans. They like cheap tickets, free parking, and good hockey. I'd bet there are a few folks in Mankato, St. Cloud and Bemidji who feel the same way.

You're right, Alaska doesn't even have daily jet service. You have to take a train to Winnipeg, go overland via foot and canoe to Yellowknife, and finally mush dogs over 1,000 miles of grueling wilderness. Part of the new Carlson Center renovation includes upgrading to electricity from whale blubber. I think the Sully in Anchorage still relies on steam.

Seriously...thousands of people fly in and out of Anchorage and Fairbanks every day. It's not that big of a **** deal.

Can't we get the polar bear to fly down and pick us up?

Did you reply to the wrong person's? Who the hell said there weren't many flights? We all agree that the leftover schools will now have issues with money, right? Then why wouldn't they keep the Alaska schools seperate to HELP with money... less flights and giving two conferences the Alaska excemption every year so they get more home games. First off, I didn't even say that they SHOULD keep them apart. Secondly, if they've been doing it during the good years, why would they change now that they're gonna have to stretch the dollar even further?
