Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Gotta give Cortland a lot of credit in making the Lakers look average from the 2nd period on. Gilbert you could say stole one from Cortland and he did play the best game of his career I thought. As the announcers said the Lakers need to stop committing stupid silly penalties. The D also needs to play better and this starts with the forwards. I think Coach needs to bring in a shooting coach for the Lakers are missing to many easy opportunities which has and will continue to hurt them. TOTO you are correct about the goalie controversy. This is not the time of the years for this to come up. This is reminding me of the 2 years at Platty with Williams and Lies where neither seemed to be the #1 goalie.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Cortland made Oswego look average because they are playing like an average team right now. They are playing very timid and without a lot of confidence. It seems like all the good things they had been doing since the first Elmira game has suddenly stopped. In the first half of the season they were really controlling games but now they are making bad situations worse by taking dumb penalties and not capitalizing when teams give them power plays in key situations. They are still contenders if they can get things back to where they were.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

the definition of an ugly win...many bad passes in both the dzone and neutral zone, if Oz was playing the other red team in the SUNYAC, it would have been bad news.3 penalties in the 1st period all were very bad,Pk stepped up along with Gilbert. The team was not skating as compared to earlier in the season,we looked slow. The PP ugh, again no players IFO the net. Yes we looked average at best .Agree we have to start burring more chances,Hushlof has been cold as of late and we need some goals from bonner,he had a ton of goals in jr's,so he has it in him we hope.As for the goalies yes resembles the Platty situation that DIII fan mentioned, and thats the path this looks to be taking, and what happened in platty?? can you say transfer?? Who knows but I am sure coach G will straighten this out sooner than later,he seems to have a nice touch. Sounds funny but a BIG weekend in M'ville coming up, if they play like they did last night we will come home with 0 pts.ps.. Great goal by Adams,it helped to avoid what could have been a very ugly ending ,as Cort had the PP and the goalie would have been pulled for a 6 on 4.p.p.s Mville beat utica in Utica IFO 4000 eyewitnesses, earlier this yr.

Sometimes I'm not sure what to make of your situation there in Oswego. What kind of season were you truthfully expecting given the almost wholesale personnel changes? Rodrigues, Moodie and Whitelaw ain't walking through the door. If you would have told me they would be 13-4-2 at this point in the season, I would say they were having an excellent year.

Outside of an opening night double bogey against a very mediocre Fredonia team, there isn't a bad loss/tie there. Elmira, Buffalo and Utica are pretty decent teams and Geneseo and Plattsburgh loss/tie weren't unexpected. There is a lack of quality, big-time wins , but that could change soon. I think you guys should be more patient with this young group......and maybe snag another D1 guy or two !!

I think Oswego and Norwich are pretty much exact replicas of each other this season.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I agree. It's too bad these two perennial powers rarely meet (unless they have to).

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The thing that bothers me with this group is they played better at beginning of the season than they are now. Usually a young team gets better as the season goes on but this team has settled into some bad habits. With the way they started any sort of improvement would have made them very dangerous but it seems like the same mistakes are happening every night. Even though they are not playing with the same swagger they had earlier in the season, they are creating a lot of good chances, they need to start potting some, Neil and Galati can't carry the team every night.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Admiral: You are very correct in that there is not big signature win within the conference. The Utica win at the AUD is the best win this season. I can't speak for the rest of Laker fans but I am extremely happy with the record for I thought a 14-15 win season would be a good year. This season is almost a mirror season of Platty last year with the exception of the goalie situation. With Platty somewhat unimpressive weekend and Genny loosing to da Bears I would say that they now have the big target on the jersey and not the lakers. As for the Lakers not playing Norwich it would be a great PrimeLink if they every had a Middlebury, Norwich, Oswego, Plattsburgh tourney. That just might be better that the DIII Final four/final.

agree that its a great season so far, but they seem to have gone back to a few bad habits as mentioned, and human nature/spoiled lakers fans of the recent past would loove to win each game by 9 ( not 10 ) :p...that said we have a lot to look forward to the rest of the yr and next D1 transfers or not....

Aye, Aye, Admiral... I am very happy where we are...the potential for a great run is there...young team needs to learn you need 60 minutes every game...can't take any shifts off...their playoff destiny is in their hands...make it to the post season, then it's Survive and Advance...anything is possible...

Sort of. It seems we have seen a couple different teams this season as this team searches for an idendity. Kinda of a cold -hot and now cold again. Since they play to their competition, the doubleheader at Mooville is worrisome. The need to come out of there with 4 and rolling.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I think some of this criticism is unwarranted. How many freshman here? What are we expecting? I am thrilled with a 13-4-2 record for a team this young. Compared to past years they have cut way down on penalties, last night was a tough game against an inspired Cortland. Mistakes, bad passes... yup, gonna happen. Didn't anyone else notice there were guys out there who have gotten very little playing time this season...Waterstreet, Yorke, Kim-Swallow. Tried some different things last night, good experience, the rest of the season will be interesting and fun! Relax a little and watch these players mature...some are already outstanding and some need more work but it's great to be able watch what happens.

Yes the team is inexperienced, and has played very well for a stretch,so us fans think they can/should play like that always, doesnt work like that unfortunately. We did play a few guys with less game time this year vs Cort,Waterstreet has played in 15 0f 19 games though and I like his game as well, anyway, the penalties where no good and cannot continue, the rest of the season will be a nice test for these guys.Must also say I was not sure how coach Gosek was going to juggle all those players this year, must say he has done a great job in getting most of the players ice time,i think most of the new guys should be happy with the chances they have gotten,

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The criticism is unwarranted only if you see criticism as a negative thing, I do not. They have a "young" team in terms of experience and a 13-4-2 record is nothing to sneeze at but I feel they have gotten away from their game and are now trying to play more like last years team did and they are not good enough for that yet.

I, along with out pal Toto was one of the few people that saw enough in this group in the preseason to predict a good record and some possible playoff noise while everyone else pretty much said we were idiots. Most people seemed to think they would be lucky to win 10 games, so I don't feel like I am being too negative. I just think there are a few guys out there that are much better than they are currently playing and some of those are upperclassmen who have been around. Perhaps I am a bit impatient with my desire to see their potential realized quickly. It's not like anyone is saying the next few years will be wasted years because these guys are no good.

One other thing I feel needs to be said. I think this season has put to rest a bit of the talk about Eddie not being that great of a coach as some of the other teams posters suggest. He no longer has the financial aid carrot to dangle out there and he still has a team with a good record and a ton of potential for the future. When you take a good look at the other sports teams at Oswego, some have had good seasons but none have had sustained success, I think it really illustrates the kind of job he has done here. Even going back to the days when George coached Eddie did a lot of the recruiting and had a huge role in those teams success.

10-4 I would imagine he has had a few offers/talks about moving up,but I guess he is a Laker at heart

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

sucks not having the video clips that we got used to last yr with Keely around.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The new guys are doing a bang-up job. They aren't as quick on the trigger finger as I was with posting the highlights, but they are all caught up!

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

One thing I didn't mention before was the shorthanded goal by Adams. I have been waiting for someone to spring him shorthanded and it hasn't happened so he took it upon himself and scored. Live it looked like he actually fanned on the shot and the video seems to reinforce that but he really showed some speed and got on Balkwill quickly which forced him to overplay the shot a little. He has the potential to be a very dynamic player but he and his linemates are almost too good defensively and at the puck control game to let him cut loose at this point. I see him and Waterstreet as almost a Dormeidy and Musselwhite duo, so maybe we can expect big things from them in the future.
