Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

If you had a chance to listen to the broadcaster who did PxP for the UWSP vs St.Thomas game last night, now that was tough. No enthusiasm whatsoever. I got more excited picking out my socks earlier in the day. One thing video broadcasters need to understand, you don't have to announce every little detail while the game is going on. Nothing worse than hearing, "Smith with the puck, Smith skates with it, Smith is over the blueline, Smith takes it to the corner, Smith...etc"

That was more than a little low-key, I agree. I do think, from watching the Oswego game on Thursday though that the play by play guy was a little bit too excitable. It seemed that he did a lot of shouting about plays that weren't that significant, especially when Oswego did something. I understand that it's not an easy task to learn how to balance between the two extremes, and I guess that is how you become a professional.

By the way, I've heard out here in CO one of the worst radio broadcasters that I've ever heard at the major league level. The Avs radio announcer is horrible. His goal calls for the Avs practically blast your ears of "GOAL" and then if the opposition scores it's like a throw-away "that's a goal". He uses more cliches than Doc Emerick, too. Emerick is entertaining (although I find some of his cliches annoying), but this guy is just annoying without being entertaining. Showing more enthusiasm for "your" team than the other is natural, but that guy goes way too far. Fortunately, most of the time I watch on TV, and don't have to listen to the radio guy. My point, there's a delicate balance especially for a home announcer, and even moreso when you have a wider audience.

Correction...now I got it.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

For the record, I think for the most part, the guys doing the games on both WNYO and WTOP have been very good. As others have said, it could be much worse.

I'll say this, I'm not sure who's doing the game today. It doesn't sound like the same guys who did the SUNYAC title game (and I didn't watch the coverage if Wednesday's game), but the TV guys doing this game today are excellent. For a crew to go on the road for the second time ever and put on a broadcast this good is really impressive. This is a top notch broadcast.

After this 2nd period my thought is "what am I watching?" Which one of these teams was supposed to be the defensive powerhouse?

Keep it up boys. Keep it up.

And WTOP is doing very well right now. I have to say I'm really impressed with how well they've memorized the Babson players' names and numbers. Very well done.

On my computer the video is in slow motion...oddly enjoyable, especially as the Lakers are playing so well.

I have been watching Arizona State (ACHA D I National Champs and one of the largest universities in the nation). Their Broadcasts are below Oswego's Level of Broadcasts. Arizona State has the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and they still need work.

To tell the truth I thought that this game would be a squeakier but our Lakers are still on the roll.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Well done Lakers...returning to the "Frozen Four" again! After that lost weekend at home against Brockport and Geneseo I really didn't expect anything like this. These guys have really pulled together...great captains and coaching!

With the win Eddie remains unbeaten in NCAA Quarterfinal games as a head coach, now if he could just pick up two more Final Four Wins.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The men played the best game of the year so far. The fore and back checking was a clinic for I thought that is what they took away from the Bowdin game. Also took Babson out of their game. One heck of a team effort and that is what Coach G preaches and is paying off. A very discplined hockey for the Laker which was huge. One SUNYAC team to Lewiston will there be a Second?? Congrats to Babson for a well played game.
Big thumbs up to the guys in the booth. Called a very nice game and as just announced will be their last for the season. The TV and radio coverage has to be a huge recruiting tool for Coach G. Not many colleges have broadcast teams that the Lakers do which put out a very high quality product year in and out.
See you in Lewiston

He did...and he had a hard time in the Bowdoin game with the actual BIG moments. But that's simply being a young, new broadcaster and with experience usually evens itself out.

I was skiing so I didn't get to see/hear any of the games today. And I'll probably be in the rink this weekend, so I'll make sure to check out more of the SUNYAC broadcasts when I have a chance next year. I enjoyed the coverage.

Total win ...great game all around hockey what more can ya say.........okthe Lakers were crisp all game long pases hitting sticks and the dmen cleared the puck very well, they also had time to do it,Babo not so aggressive on the forecheck..Botten amazing on the faceoffs hes our best by far...SHG by Adams ,backbreaker for babo with their anemic offense, great hustle and pass by Bonner. We looked faster for sure.We also rolled 4 lines alllllllllll game and the 4th line was very good on the forecheck as always, but took 2 pens. York plays like a man possesed:D..I think babo took 7 penalities waaay off for them, we forced many being aggressive I belive..Now that was goalie interference:p...Zman didnt have to many chances until the end when Babo's dmen started pinching and taking chances, he played well. Not sure y but Babo had many passes cross ice?? most intercepted......GREAT job by WTOP,they are TOPs....and It looked like we had a great showing of fans nice jobs laker fans..whos next:D....what is the rink size in Maine????????......Genny will be there with us as well.........

It's a SUNYAC sweep! Half the FF will consist of SUNYAC teams. I like our conference's chance of bringing some hardware back to NY.

Who's going to MAINE???!!!?!?! :D

Maine. That's a left hand turn out of Boston due north, yeah?
What a year! These guys are playing some passionate hockey, and the icing on the cake is getting mighty thick.
