Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

A very well fought game between to even teams. The Lakers were fortunate to come away with the win for the score could have very easily been 4-3 to Potsdam. The Bears had about a 6-8 minute stretch in the 3rd where they just over matched the Lakers and the Lakers couldn't get the puck out. Rivat needs to sit tonight for he played terrible. It was good to see Carr out there and he played with a huge amount of energy. It may have taken the Lakers 24 game to finally figure out that they need to play someone in from of the net. This happened a lot and we scored 2 goals that way but we created a lot of chances too. Glad that we secured a home game for this coming Wednesday.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Gotta say Da Bears looked pretty good, they were aggressive on the forecheck and had good speed and hit as well. That said I dont remember seeing our defense get stripped from behind so many times when trying to make a breakout play, they have to be aware that there is a forechecker near them many times the bears just lifted their sticks and took the puck.Yes we did have guys in front and scored, love it, and even Montagnas goal looked like he just threw it near the net and good things happen, enough skating around "cycling" in the offenseive zone, throw it at the net and crash it.Zawadski looked good, but dmen need to clean up IFO the net on the Pk and even up.dont think we played all 3 periods again lastnight, do that tonight and we will end up like Cortland did.Best of luck tonight we are going to need it BIG TIME..

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I was impressed with how my Bears played at times. Oswego got 2 strange goals last night which seemed to ping pong their way in to the back of the net. Not taking anything away from the Lakers as they worked for every goal they scored. What's frustrating for me is what if the Bears had played like that all season long? Its getting old to sneak into the playoffs or chasing them from January 1st. Good luck tonight against the Birds, should be a good one!

Didnt hear whats with no Neil Hulshof,Wills,Smith..i am guessing injuries??

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Neil was shaken up against Brockport, he played much of the third with a noticeable limp. As for the others I am not sure why the were not in the lineup.

Good game by the Lakers. I hope Galati is okay, he looked like he was in some serious pain...

Amazing win for the Lakers. You really never know which team is going to show up. This is not the same team that played last weekend...or even last night. Great win for a team that really needed a good win.

Now, unless I'm reading this wrong, the SUNYAC quarterfinals are Fredonia at Oswego and Brockport at Buff St. Wednesday night. Hopefully the CC will be rocking, since it could very well be the last home game of the season, barring any major upsets.

Correct...Wednesday night at home...

And if Oswego wins on Wednesday, we get to see them back in Plattsburgh on Saturday!

Oh please... The Buffalo Sabres have a better chance of winning the Stanley Cup this year than Fredonia State has beating Oswego on Wednesday. :)

LOL! This Laker team has to hate Fredonia. All these kids know is that Fredonia handed them their first loss in their NCAA careers. I'm looking forward to watching this Wednesday

As uneven as Oswego has been lately I wouldn't give it to them just yet.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I thought Oswego was a pretty good team tonight. They fought through some injuries during the game to go along with the one's they already had, survived an odd goalie change and capitalized on a couple of breaks that went their way. Hard to imagine Brockport or Fredonia beating that team if the played with half the intensity they played with tonight.

Zawadski was stellar in relief and is the reason they won tonight. Although I thought the 5 minute major was not a good call, they did use that opportunity to change the game. It seemed like the refs and linesmen lost their minds for about 10 minutes in the second period. Crazy, miscellaneous whistles stopping play for no apparent reason. Mysterious faceoffs, about ten missed offsides. Pretty entertaining game. In a season of firsts, the Lakers may have stole their first game.

I look forward to watching the game online. My gut tells me it will be a blowout. My guess is that Zawadzki will get the start. If not, all bets are off. :P

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Remember that in Z's last four starts he has been pulled three times. He is extremely capable when he is on but both guys seem to struggle when they start and are stellar when they come on in relief. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how they react to their first playoff action.

I didn't see the whole game. Zawadski in relief? Injuries? Someone give a detailed summary.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

We have a good team this year, the one area we need improvement on is goal-tending, We've been spoiled in years past with the likes of Kyle Gunn-Talor, Paul "Brick Wall" Beckwith, and Andrew Hare. Zawadski is good, the better of the two current in my opinion, but he's hit or miss, if he starts a game and doesn't do well early on his lack of confidence kills him for the rest of the game. We won this game, I don't know if we can repeat for the next 2+ games we may have to play. My suggestion would be to start Gilbert in the first and then have Zawadski play in the 2nd and 3rd. He always plays stellar in relief.

I have to say that right now, I'm a believer in Z. Gilbert is very good but right now I think Z is the guy for these playoffs. My reasoning is that both Z and Gilbert are capable of breaking down and having bad games. I'm not convinced that one is more or less likely to do it than the other. But Z has stood up in big games against big opponents and made things happen. For this season, Z has the better body of work. Thoughts?
