Bonner plays a lot along the boards which is why he doesn't get a lot of chances. He is an excellent penalty killer and he is very responsible in covering the point when a d-man pinches in. If he would start going to the net in the offensive zone and chip in some points he would be a really good player.
agree, he has to have some scoring touch from his jr stats, I know they dont always translate but 1 goal?? perhaps he will catch fire and fill the net the rest of the season, hustle and hard work sometimes leads to goals, lets hope so.we could use him on the score sheet as well as on the boards.

So if unranked BC can take down #1 Syracuse, he ponders....

Oswego has been working tirelessly this week on their scoring issues, and are now prepped to be the hot team coming into the tournament season. I couldn't verify this, but that is what I am hearing around town

D zone coverage is the bugaboo for this team, not so much scoring. Every team has struggles scoring in this age of oversized equipment, packing it in and defense-first mentality. Plus the lack of bona fide snipers. Goaltending, D zone coverage and special teams wins D3 hockey games and championships. Every team who is good scores about 3 or 4 goals a game. The key is to keep the goals against under 2. Oswego needs work on that as well as their tendency to give up multiple grade A chances. The offense will usualy take care of itself.

Eddie really worked them over after the sluggish win over Cortland and they were flying in the next game against the Mustangs. At the end of that game they started to sputter and then had to come back in the second game. We all know what happened last weekend so if Eddie really pounded them we can expect a decent effort on Friday and hopefully it is a close game which will force them to stay on their toes.

Admiral is right, the defense and goalies are not giving the offense a chance to get rolling and fore the opponents to take chances. The offense has been pressing to try and get the team back in it and that can be tough to do. Their backs are up against the wall now, it will be interesting to see how they handle it.

Don't wanna sound like an old hack, but I notice kids missing the net more and more as the years go on. Is it the fancy sticks ? Is it the quest for the ESPN-fueled "one-timer" ? I don't know. But I've never seen such poor shooting from everywhere on the rink. Years ago, 3rd line players from Oswego or Plattsburgh could shoot the puck with speed AND accuracy. Now we're lucky if we have one or two kids who can snipe consistently.

My suspicion is the fiberglass sticks, No one seems very good at catching passes either. It makes you scratch your head. The kids are bigger, faster, stronger.....but not better hockey players IMO.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

The sticks is a big part of it, some of it is calmness under pressure and some of it the way defense is stressed more now. If you spend most of your practices from day one working on systems, there isn't much time left to shoot. And kids have so much other stuff to occupy their time, they don't just head outside and shoot the puck for a few hours. I'm 26 and kids didn't even want to do that with me when I was younger and it gets worse all the time. I am sure you would find more in say Minnesota or Canada but even their I am sure the number of kids that actually go outside is dwindling.

I think the # of kids that go outside in general in dwindling,I get my daughter outside playing sports every chance I can, just not like back in the days when ya walked outside and there were several games going on,street hockey stickball, basketball, now they are played on the many screens the kids have ...sucks for them

They need to go back to aluminum sticks?

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Back in the day, you could always tell the guys who had no shot.....they used the red Titan....I always like the balsa wood feel of a Victoriaville or a Sherwood PMP. Boy, do I feel old. White tape on the blade too.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

loved the alums great to xcheck with:D

I swear I would use one today if I could find one! Nothing better than when they got a little permanent bend in them and you flipped the blade to get that extra whip. LOL

That team was reunited at this year's O'Donnell Media Summit...and Canale's and TheShed...:D

Glad to hear it. Steve and Jay really started the great hockey coverage which expanded to what it is today.
