Mostly the malts. Some hop undertones, somewhat of a sweet cereal grain smell but it's definitely not dominated by sweetness. It has a great finish and isn't overly heavy despite the 6.4 abv. The aromas center around what smells like a lemony hop and pilsner character with true bock strength into the nose.
I may have to pick up some of that brew - bocks are some of my favorite brews.
Got my hands on some Glissade, and discovered it's a maibock. I'm a fan of Rogue's 'Dead Guy Ale', which is the same style, and I like the Sierra Nevada attempt too. The maibocks are more balanced than a traditional bock.
Even better.
Definitely stopping for a sixer of this (or the Rogue offering) tomorrow.
If the price difference is minimal, I still recommend the Rogue brew more. I think it's a better representation of the style, short of a plane ticket to Munich.![]()
Solution: one sixer of each.![]()
I'm waiting for Schell's Mai Fest to come out. One of my favorites.
I am waiting for bb_dl to slap The Situation at Bootleggers after he orders him a Voltron. Preferably with The Voltron shot glasses, but those will take too much time to get ready. I'll have to live without, I suppose.
