Did you go to GAC? Did you ever hit up the Oleander/What's Up Lounge in Mankato?

No, I went to Mankato. So, yes. I frequented the Ole and What's Up often as well. I played in the What's Up roughly 50 times or so. Free beer and a cut of the cover? Awesome.

I lived nearby with 3 friends, one of which (Jeff S) ended up bartending at the Ole. Soon after another friend (Randy P) ended up working there and before you know it it went from a townie bar to a college bar. We had a few afterbars on Thursdays and loved that they would bring in bands from Mpls and whatnot (including a real fun Mango Jam show). I remember a huge Halloween blowout that year, we usually had a good deal on pitchers because of all the business we brought in, and every once in a while on Monday nights we were allowed a private party (the WU was closed those nights). You weren't the harmonica dude were you? Anyway, some fond memories from that short time there for me.

No, I was the dork playing one of the trombones in a brass band. Oh, and the slide whistle on occasion.

Ah yes, the private parties. Loved the times we were at the WU to "rehearse" during non-business hours.

Strongbow is sweeter than I remember it. Getting heartburn.

Hell.

Doctor's orders, no food or coffee or booze since last Saturday. Yesterday I was freed. Tonight, it really would be "whatever's in the gosh darn house." In actuality, it's Canadian Club. So tasty. So happy.

I bought Bell's Porter and Stout yesterday. It was hard to stop at 2.

The Kalamazoo Stout is good, but if you see it on the shelves, pick up a sixer of Expedition Stout. About the consistency and color of used motor oil, but oh so good.

Found Baltika No. 9 tonight. I'll take "the challenge" on Friday evening. ;)

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

You may choose to start the evening with a glass of a different beer - Baltika is definitely drinkable, but an odd flavor.

I've tried some truly bad malt liquors in my day, I'm sure I can handle the Baltika.

Twitch - yeah, I mean you can see Russia from there. ;)

You have that backwards: have the Baltika first, so you can finish with a good beer. You don't want that odd taste to last the evening. ;)

And noticed that at Plymouth Liquor (on Hwy 55, by Famous Dave's) right now, Evan Williams' American Honey has a $10 rebate. No tiny fine print, either (the clerk talked about it when I asked). Buy a 750ml, about $15, get the $10 rebate.

I'd highly recommend this, and I'm sure bbdl would, too. It's dam good stuff.

Agreed. We could not come up with a comparison, but it is definitely unique.
