Tall cans.

It's expensive because the brewery is so small. They can't absorb costs like the major breweries, and it is a higher quality beer.

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

I might have to pick up some. Two questions:

1. What is a good first 4-pack to pick up?
2. Anyone know where to find it in the northern suburbs, specifically the Blaine area?

I'm sure any MGM has it.

And I've only had Surly once, and it was Surly Bender. It was pretty good.

Mmmmm... Bender... :)

And I know this next statement will be taken completely out of context, but... I've always wanted to try the Darkness.

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

Careful, that's an executable offense of some of these beer snobs' twisted realities...

Listen to Brenthoven. He is the wise one. Also, I am from and currently live in Wisconsin so that gives me more of a right to drink my beer however I want to and be a snob about it. ;) :p

Baltika is hard to find. This is the second store I have found it in. It is also less of a drive. My regular liquor store doesn't carry it, so I have to drive 15-20 minutes to purchase it.

Mr. wore Black will be up in Minnesota this week and I told him he is not allowed back unless he comes back with a 12 pack of Nordeast. All of you keep talking about it and I have to try it.

Like Brent says, any liquor store has Surly. I think it's good, but overpriced. If you're on the eastern side, try Lexington Liquors or Eagle Liquors in Lino Lakes - I'm not as familiar with the other stores in Blaine.

LWB: It's still in short supply around the state, but Nordeast is worthwhile.

I have to admit, I'd buy it if it didn't cost so much. As it is, I'd be more apt to have it on tap, but I can't say I've been at a place that has it. I think they cater more to the neighboorhood bars that aren't in the suburbs.

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

Ok well I bought some bender and we are drinking it now. It's pretty good. I've had similar beer for a lot cheaper. But it's a very good beer.

Thanks for the suggestion Brent.

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

QUESTION for all Detroit 'burbs residents--where could one possibly find Baltika in that area?

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

And one of those is 2 miles from the hotel in which I will be staying Friday and Saturday night. Excellent.

You've been on a 2-occasion SENANICANS-less streak. Third time better be the charm.

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

They have false advertising for Wisconsin. The 2 places where I have found it are not posted and I am not going to log in to add to it.

Same with MN. I didn't see the one store that BPH first found it at. And I don't believe the store that they list for my ZIP code has it at all. I've never seen it there.

It's not for lack of trying, believe me.
Open bar at the reception. The bride is all for us getting blasmed (to get back at her mom for being a controlling hctib during this whole process). I'm bringing my computer, we'll see if my chaperon will let me log on to entertain you all.

Well the one place where I found it was a Polish store. Not Russian. The overall sad part is that I am going to have to drive at least 15-20 minutes to pick some up. I just hope the school year for Mr. wore Black starts sooner because he drives past the places where to pick it up. I work and drive in the middle of nowhere. I swear that is there are 2 restaurants, 1 gas station, and 1 bar between where I work and where I live. Otherwise farmland.

Whatever the liquor store is next to Cub on 65 in Blaine has a decent beer selection. I can't remember if they have Surly specifically, but it seems like it would.

Funny story, that one is about 3/4 of a mile from my house. Thanks.

Tried the Surly Bender tonight. Very good but it tastes quite a bit like other oatmeals I've had. It's somewhat better but is it worth nearly doubling the cost per ounce? Debatable.

I'll give their other beers a try. Maybe it was just Bender that didn't live up to the lofty standards I have for Surly.
