I tried the New Glarus Moon Man this weekend. Holy citrus! It almost tasted like a Summer Shandy with grapefruit juice. Interesting, but I don't know if I'd get it again.

That sounds terrible.

It was really the best comparison I could think of. It wasn't the best beer I've ever had.

If anything, you gave me a beer to avoid when I'm in Paint Thinner Nation. :)

Haha, thanks?

Flashy Man also tried Capital Brewery's Supper Club. It was pretty meh, he said. Not a bad beer, but absolutely nothing special.

I've had hippie beer (all natural ingredients, gluten free or something like that; for the record, it was meh, nothing special, but interesting).

And yes, thank you for the insight on the fruity beer. I'm always open for suggestions.

And what are you doing having a beer? You're in training, missy. :p

It was my freaking birthday!

Actually, I've gone sober until the half marathon. However, I see an epic KBC run sometime in the 24-48 hours following the race.

Ok, just making sure you're still on track.

And with a side of SENANICANS, I hope. ;)

I don't think Supper Club is supposed to be anything special. It's just a so-called "pre-Prohibition lager".

But I know what you mean. If I'm paying $8+ for a six-pack, it should have some flavor.

I'm not going to lie, I think I was legally drunk from 8 pm on tuesday night until sometime early this morning.

One of the days we made white russians in a mug this size:

Gotta love the Kum & Go.

Yeah, I always get a laugh driving by those places.

I used that image because it was the first one that came up when I googled 100-oz mug (or something like that).

A 100-oz white russian. it was delicious.

Makes me wonder if it was a bad batch. I'd had a porter or some such that ended up tasting a bit like grapefruit, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was a common yeast/bacterial strain that causes the off flavor.

Reminds me of when one of my heavy-drinking friends got a White Russian at the bar, another friend (a n00b to drinking) had a sip, and pretty soon all of my friends were drinking White Russians and getting blasted off of them. We call that night "the White Russian Affair". :o

:p

I do plan on bringing back some New Glarus, and maybe trying to find other good local brews there. As always, my goal will be to never repeat a beer at the bars/restaurants when I am on vacation, and try to stick to purely local brews.

I highly recommend The Grumpy Troll Brew Pub in Mt Horeb (15 minutes west of Madison). Their brews have won a bunch of awards + voted best brewpub in Madison.

Infected beer is usually foamy and tastes like vinegar. Moon Man is a pale ale, which explains the grapefruit flavor.

Drinking a Shock Top for the first time, honestly I'm underwhelmed by the flavor or lack there of.

It's a terrible imitation wheat beer made by a macrobrew. What did you expect?

At least Blue Moon tries. ;)

Actually, I don't mind Blue Moon, but only on tap. It tastes sweeter from the bottle, and that's just too much.
