Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Haskell's in Minnetonka. Caution: they are having their nickel wine sale (all prices end in a nickel, ooooo) so it's packed and annoying.

Used to be buy one bottle and the second one of the same wine costs $.05. State said, no, no, that is too much fun. So they changed it, bit it's still very reduced prices.

I usually stock my cellar at that one and spend $300-400, then hit the fall wine sale again to restock. Not drinking nearly as much wine at our house since we learned I'm reacting really badly to yeast so beer and wine are out.:(

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Received a bottle of Gentleman Jack as part of a gift for being in a wedding. Not bad.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I bought a bottle of Laphroaig 18 over the weekend. I liked it.

Picked up some Bowmoore 12YO for MNSFest. Thought about the Laph 10YO Cask Strength, but since you already are bringing Laph, I went with a different distiller.

I'll bring Laphroaig 18, and then one of my other non-Islay bottles...either the Auchentoshan 18 or the Glengoyne 17. I'll leave my Bowmore and my Lagavulin 16 at home.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Two-Hearted Ale now, bourbon later (my choice of Bulleit, Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, or Beam Black). Friday, woot! :D

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

The description on the THA bottle used to say, "Well-suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula." I just noticed that it now says, "...adventurous trips..."

I smell legal action by the Hemingway estate there.

Having a Founder's Cerise (cherry fermented ale) right now, and have my choice of select bourbons and a scotch later...

I still have some Captain leftover from last weekend, but not feeling that for a while. Way too many Cuba Libres last weekend.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Went to a party this afternoon and brought Bell's Oarsman Ale. Way too light for my tastes; I didn't know it was only 4% ABV until I bought it.

It's not always about ABV. It's about taste. At least, it is for me. And honestly, in summer, do you really want a heavy beer? Most likely not. ;)

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I tried "Wild Blue" Blueberry Lager. 8% ABV. It drinks like a cider--all fruit flavor, no real "beer" taste. Refreshing at first, but after a while the sweetness gets to you.

And, I'm with Brent: no more Cuba Libres for a while. However, I am a fan of the Captain Morgan Lime Bite. I may donate the rest of that bottle to my mom, though.

Those beers will do that. The Founder's Cerise I had this weekend, well, 2 in a sitting was enough (6.5% ABV). It was almost like a wine, but nope, still a beer.

I wanted a little heavier beer. I didn't want something too heavy, but the Oarsman tasted like water; I think I'd have been better off with Oberon or Two-Hearted Ale.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I was actually pretty impressed with Beam Black, considering Beam White is sugar water trash.

Try a witbeir or a saison. IMO they are a good mid-range and perfect for summer.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I've always been a huge fan of Sam Adams Summer Ale.

I'm trying to think of the summer-specific seasonals, and I don't recall any that stand out. Schell's Maifest is spring, although their Zommerfest is decent. I thought New Belgium's Sunshine Wheat was summer only, but I was wrong.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Don't care if it's summer - if it tastes good I don't limit my choice to the season. Yeah, there are times when I want a Summit Summer or the NB Dig or a Maibock this time of year, but I don't shy away from a heavy PA just because it's hot out.

It's rare for me. Not unpossible, but rare.
