Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

1. Widow
2. Scotch
3. Amber

That's my top KBC list, in order.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Bought 4 sixers of the Scotch Ale. Now I'll have cans for beer darts.

I'll have to go shopping after work. However, the last I heard, the store closest to me that has KBC sold out of the Widow Maker, probably due to us college hockey fans (Gopher fans specifically). :D

I bought all the widowmaker at the one on Grand last saturday, not sure if they got more yet :P

I went to the store in Maple Grove last week. IIRC, it was sold out by week's end. I'll give them a call tomorrow after work, though, that's for sure.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

There was Widow left at Tournament Liquors in Blaine when I picked up the Scotch Ale after work today. If you get real desperate.....

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Was never nuts about the Widowmaker - it's like an amber that wants to be a porter, but fails.

The Scotch is the best KBC, short of their dry stout, which I doubt we'll ever see outside of the taproom just for the added cost of a nitro-can.

Local lq had these on sale for $12.99 so I picked up 2. :drinky:

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Next time, try the KBC instead. Much better. ;)
Also, if the Scotch Ale is available, try that one as well.

Oops. Maybe next time.

The Scotch Ale is my favorite. dx, I'll bring some on Saturday, so you can try the good stuff.

Sorry I couldn't make it. I've been putting off my errands for about a month due to hockey. And I still didn't get them all done.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Picked up Hofbrau Muchen Dunkel and Hefe Weizen. I like the Dunkel but the Hefe is actually quite good.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

For anyone in the Denver/Springs area... Breckenridge 471 double IPA is amazing. And after 3 of them, I realized 9.2% as well. Yee-haw.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Tried the Scottish, Blonde, and Black from KBC. I was very impressed with all three. I guess because I'm not a big hops guy, and all three were pretty light on the hops, but I could see adding any of those into regular rotation assuming the price isn't that much more than other stuff I like.

Anybody seen the new Schell's release(Czech dark lager) out? I can't wait to try that one.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Copied from GPL:

I'm sipping on the WRDO again tonight. I have to say, it's really, really good. Vanilla, cinnamon, and the charred oak second barrel really brings out a tobacco flavor on the finish. Very sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. The taste that lingers in the back of the mouth is distinctly that of smoked hardwood.

I'm trying it side-by-side with the Distiller's Select and the character is just amazing. I didn't think WR could improve on the DS. The WRDO is definitely worth the price. It's like eating eating a good strip steak and then having a fillet. Worth the extra $8 every time.

I'm almost a bit sad now that I've tried them side-by-side. It made the Distiller's Select seem so flat.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Maize: the Scottish and the Black are high up on my all time faves.

dx: after thinking about it, it's worth it, yes, I agree. When you get up in that $35-40 range for bourbon, that little of a price difference for quality is negligible.

Picked up some Laphroaig 10 ($42 at Sid's in Plymouth) so I could have a sip during Mad Men tomorrow. Seems fitting. And it's a great value for an Islay Scotch. Debated about the 16YO at around $60-65~. Just didn't want to spend that amount of money today, I suppose.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

KBC is coming out with a new canned brew in mid May: November Gale Pale Ale. Also if anyone is going to be in Houghton the next couple weeks they have Acme Anvil Ale on tap, probably my favorite KBC.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

KBC has never done a pale I've liked. I'd be wary of that one, but I'll probably end up trying it at some point.
