Hundy dollahs....

At two tickets, that is $5 each to park, $25 each in food (?!?!?), and $70 for some old best open seat.

"that brings me to my next point... Don't Smoke Crack"

The $70 is for the "Scarlet Experience." Worth every penny. :)

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

A few other guys on there look good, I'd say if raising the banners was the difference between any of them coming here or not, then it would definitely be worth it. Celebrating last year is important, but not at the expense of the future. I just don't think it will make a difference to possible recruits, and thus a poor decision. Though I could be wrong. Playing in front of a fuller crowd and seeing them hyped up by the championship banner might be worth some awe, but I think the guys on that team considering BU are quite aware that we won the national championship.

That said, I agree recruiting shouldn't dictate the banner-raising. The U18s certainly will get to see all the hardware BU won last season. My preference, too, would be the Notre Dame game, but I can see some genuine issues that likely motivated the change. Getting to a Tuesday night game an hour early is a problem for some of the parents of players who are supposed to participate in the banner-raising events (a longtime tradition), especially for those from out of town. Another factor could be that ESPNU, which is airing the Notre Dame game, didn’t want to extend the length of the broadcast.

You guys are right - those kids aren't going to say, "Oh wow, look at BU - they even sell out exhibition games! I want to come play here!" because they will know the only reason Agganis is sold out, or even remotely close to not being completely empty, is because of the banners. They also aren't going to say "Wait... what?! BU won the national championship last year? I want to play here!" because if that's a factor for them, they will already know. They don't need a banner raising to know BU is a top-notch program. The potential gain for this is just not worth it.

I guess what I don't understand is why can't we do this against Notre Dame or Michigan if we don't want to do a Tuesday night. We can put spotlights or do a quick banner raising for five minutes before the game for the Beanpot, Regular Season and Frozen Four banners, then during the first intermission, have a ceremony for the HE banner and then the National Championship banner at the end of the second intermission. It's better that way anyway - imagine if it's a good, close game. They won't know what hit them when they come out for the third. And that's the best time to have the crowd going crazy, anyway.

NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Banner Ceremony Moved to Oct. 10
Terriers to honor 2009 national championship squad prior to exhibition vs. U.S. Under-18 Team

BOSTON - The Boston University men’s ice hockey team will unveil its 2009 NCAA championship banner at Agganis Arena on Saturday, Oct. 10, prior to the team’s 7 p.m. contest against the U.S. National Under-18 Team. The banner ceremony was previously scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20, against Notre Dame.

“There are several reasons why we will now have the ceremony on Oct. 10,” said head coach Jack Parker. “Our team and coaching staff want to raise the banner before we start our regular season, which begins at UMass on Oct. 16. It’s something we want to be able to take our time with and enjoy, and an exhibition contest allows us to do that. Plus, a Saturday game will allow fans to be in their seats before faceoff more easily than a Tuesday game.”

The Terriers claimed their fifth national championship in April with a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over Miami (Ohio) at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. BU last won the national title in 1995.

The Oct. 10 contest will mark the fourth meeting between the Terriers and the U.S. National Under-18 Team. BU has won the previous three contests, including the most recent during the 2007-08 season. Five players on this year’s Terrier squad (Colby Cohen, Luke Popko, Vinny Saponari, Kevin Shattenkirk, David Warsofsky) are former members of the Under-18 squad.

1. My first ever disagreement with Parker. interesting. I never knew he was capable of being wrong.

2. They should move the start time back to 7:30pm if they want the fans in their seats. Especially since all the food and beer lines will be twice as long with the exhibition-game-rules of only two or three concessions being open.

That stinks.... what a dumb idea this is.

Edit: Nice of them to announce one thing... so people make plans around it... then change it fairly last minute. I also just reallized (it's probablly been mentioned) that this is a holiday weekend.... so people (including me) had made other plans around it.

I'm gonna fire off an email.

So now that the date is set (like it or not), let's work on the actual ceremony:

1. Spotlight(s) outside the rink
2. Scarlet and White bunting inside the rink
3. Terrier Towels made into miniature National Champs banner replicas given out to everyone who arrives by 6:45pm.
4. Make sure the banners don't tilt to one side while being raised. that's always bugged me.
5. at some point, Play. The. Song. Before, after, during, whenever, just play it.
6. Specifically call out every player on the U18 team that is going to another hockey east school, put their names and mugs on the screen and let the students tell them they suck. They might actually get a kick outta that. Early welcome to Hockey East.
7. Make sure the lights are OUT while raising The NC Banner.
8. T shirt sold only that single night.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

As far as our job goes, I hope we have the place packed. I don't want to see an empty 108 for this game.

Since it is at an exhibition game, I hope Beantown is right in that they can do everything they can to make this a fantastic ceremony. Lots of highlights, music, other special stuff going on.

In other news, Colin Wilson getting some facetime on SI NHL

While it looks like it won't be changed, everyone who is not happy or has a disagreement should write in about it. Is there a specific e-mail address that would be most effective or at least have the best chance at being noticed?

I'll say they go 2 for 8 here. They get the banner mostly straight and they will hand out a t-shirt/towel/trinket.

More predictions:

IF it's open, there will be a single person scooping ice cream, and only "to order."

Hot dogs will be cooked tomorrow for October 10 service. Allows the shriveled, vulcanized effect to show its best.

Security will ask that only one fan per row cheer at a time.

8. T shirt sold only that single night.

1. The only spotlights will be inside and even then they probably won't get it right.
2. It will end up being red and white bunting that is so faded it looks more like a shade of crimson or maroon
3. They won't get that fancy. It will probably be those left over white towels with BU logos on it that they give out at bigger games
4. It will go up tilted
5. A definite, RSIG throws out an entire row of kids though because he thought he heard someone say *******em up
6. Unfortunately most of the kids on the U18 team that are committed are to western schools
7. This is where the spotlights will fail and they will raise the banners without anyone noticing.
8. It will be more of an uncomfortable long sleeve shirt with an ugly front design and goes with Boston Terriers instead of Boston University Terriers.

Oh how I have missed making fun of Agganis arena.
