Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Scarlet - get Jack on the phone. Banners at the USNDTP game would be a terrible idea, unless we are hoping to use it to land a U18 player or two :D

I guess I'm in the minority here. The U-18 game is the best solution out of a bunch of less than perfect alternatives.

Raising the banners before the ND game would be horrible karma. I can't imagine a better recipe to get visitors pumped and the home team complacent. Let's get the ceremony done, impress some recruits, and look ahead, not back, when we start the RS.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I mentioned a long time ago that I was going to make a highlight video of the 2008-2009 season. I didn't forget about it. I've been working on it for a while, and it's finally finished.

If anyone is interested in getting a copy of it, please send an email to BUhighlights@gmail.com, and I'll reply with details and such.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

On a purely personal standpoint, I don't think I would be able to go to that game. :(

No S&#@. The only games you showed up for last year was the Frozen Four. :D

My thought is whatever. If this is the biggest problem people have to worry about, then I envy you. I don't care what game they raise the banner on. Might as well make a meaningless game interesting. Then we can hit The Bar Formerly Known As T's after the first period. ;)

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Really? It's not a hit to the U18 team, and I'm sure I'll be at the game no matter what... but it just doesn't figure logically. The first exhibition is the first time we get back in Agganis... so if you're going to do it during an exhibition, why not then?

And really... really... why not vs ND? (Although for personal reasons... I'd really like to shove those banners in UM's face on Saturday).

Sorry if this was mentioned already, but see anyone missing at the top?

:P

Love this, glad we made the list!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Well, that's really puttin' their foot in it.

I only get to see a coupla games a year, usually Harvard at Thanksgiving, but made special plans this year to be there for the opener.
Guess I'll just have to change the plane and hotel reservations.

Also, I was told, today, like two hours ago, that individual regular season tix will be on sale starting October 5(!), so even the note about checking back in September is wrong.

This is on top of being snarfed outta decent seats 'cuz I stupidly waited for the Terriers presale for Fenway (I *will* be there, tho).

Hmmm...where was that Friends of Hockey check I was about to sign???

What recruits? They're all committed by now.

Think about it this way - the Phillies didn't get their rings during Spring Training. The Lakers didn't raise a banner during a summer league game. The Steelers didn't have a ceremony during a lame, sparsely attended exhibition game. This is the absolute most unprecedented level of stupidity that I've seen since I turned on the television this afternoon to see Barack Obama complaining that Wall Street didn't learn anything when we bailed them out.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

There are still several uncommitteds on the U18 roster.

I have my own theory, but I think it is best if I don't post it here :-).

My theory has zero to do with the U18 team.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Huh? You had a poster stating that all the U18s were committed already so I responded in a single post (not two) that there were a few kids still uncommitted.

I made the other statement just because I didn't want it to sound like I was saying that that was the reason and because I like my theory which is only half a joke.

I'll leave the BU thread alone again. Would appreciate it if someone posts when your single tickets are definitely on sale (I know someone just posted a date, but not sure if definite) as I know someone who needs tickets for a particular game.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Yeah but none of those guys would be on our radar. Clendening is the only one left who is any good, at least from what I've heard. I don't think looking to pick up a recruit would be a big enough concern to offset raising banners before an exhibition game.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Dissapointing that they won't raise it for an actual game. I'll be emailing hockey@bu.edu
I wonder how many times a major professional or amateur sport has seen its reigning champion raise the banner during preseason? Maybe it happens a lot, but it sure seems like a big letdown. I will also email looking for their reasoning.

A few other guys on there look good, I'd say if raising the banners was the difference between any of them coming here or not, then it would definitely be worth it. Celebrating last year is important, but not at the expense of the future. I just don't think it will make a difference to possible recruits, and thus a poor decision. Though I could be wrong. Playing in front of a fuller crowd and seeing them hyped up by the championship banner might be worth some awe, but I think the guys on that team considering BU are quite aware that we won the national championship.
