Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

First off, what makes all of you think for one moment that it's the arena management who is making this decision????? It's more likely Jack/athletic dept. Secondly, raising the banners before the U-18 games make way more sense than raising it against the exhibition on the third. Third, as I stated before, they may be doing this to allow for a longer ceremony given the amount of banners that need to be raised, mookie's "we tell Joe B when/where/how" notwithstanding.

Couldn't we do the banners anyway and just take the penalties? Kidding, kidding.

How about some love for the men's soccer team? Knocked off No. 1/3 St. John's tonight.

Yeah. St. John's beat BU, 1-0, twice last year- once early in the season and then in the 2nd round of NCAAs. Final score was 1-0 tonight.

I'm not sure how raising it for the U18's makes more sense? If they're thinking they want to get more people to an exhibition game, why not do it the first time the team takes the ice after winning the title? Plus, at the very least there's some fan incentive to go to the u18 game since it's a good way to see recruits - that doesn't exist for the first one. Nonetheless, it should be done at ND, hands down. BC found a way to do it before their Wisconsin game last year despite any potential time constraints.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I don't get the dissing of the U18 team. I love getting to see them. Last time they visited BU you had both Victor (for BU) and Vinny (for the U18s) Saponari scoring goals (and I totalled my car on the way there and still have back pain, but I didn't skip the game).

It was a 3-2 game, not some extremely uneven contest.

(Edited to add - I understand not wanting it to be banner night, just not why people don't want to go to the game. Why aren't you going to all the home games?)

I just think its a boring pointless game. As a season ticket holder, it also irks me that they force the game on you and charge full price for it. I mean, this is a ticket you can barely give away.

I wonder if they really do raise the banners that night, if Jack will dress the usual "non dressers" (as he often does for this game).

As much as Agganis sucks at seemingly easy things, and as much as I would like to blame them, I don't see why they would be deciding the banner issue. Really does seem to be the responsibility of the AD.

True, there may be worse options than raising the banner at the U-18, but that doesn't free it from still being a monumentally stupid idea.

There are a number of options that are mostly satisfactory and only a few that stink. Will be interesting to hear the rationale if they choose an unpopular option.

Completely agree with this. If there are any BU recruits, the game is mildly more interesting, but it's still an exhibition. I don't mind the game, and I always go, but I also get irked that I'm paying full price. I don't even like bringing a friend since I know the crowd will be small and dead and the game will inevitably be boring.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

If it is a decision by Jack/Athletics rather than Agganis, I'd still love to hear the reasoning. If it's length of time and too many banners, raise all but the national championship banner on U18s. I don't mind if it's a multi-game event. Then raise the final banner against Notre Dame. Won't take all that long.

Considering this is before the regular season and not around Thanksgiving, he may want to use this as a time to try more line combinations rather than just dress everyone who wouldn't otherwise play. Or rather, he'll use this to decide between guys fighting for spots.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

If it is going to be before the U18 game, when do they make the announcement? They already said it was before ND, and if for some stupid reason they decided to changed it to the U18 game, they need to announce it quick, or else it will go to waste. Why change the banner raising game to an exhibition game and then not tell anyone? Especially after it was "officially" announced that it was before the ND game?

God I hope they don't screw this up.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

The senior parents from last year have been invited to the u18 game to raise the championship banner. I am told it is tradition that they come back and raise the banner/banners.... If one of the other banners is being raised at another game it does not include them.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I emailed hockey@bu.edu asking. Their response:

The banner raising ceremony will take place prior to the October 10th
game vs. U-18.
Thank you for your continued support of BU Hockey.

I guess that's it then.
