Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

There's just no way we raise the banner before the U-18 game... I mean, I understand that it would be a huge draw for a game that otherwise isn't going to make them little money, but don't they (whoever "they" is) understand that that's just not how this is supposed to be?

I'm not even sure if the raising of the banners would make me at all interested in that game.

I know it took you 5 years to graduate, but look at the time stamp. Then check the nearest calendar. Also, when my sources are on the inside of Agganis/Athletics they don't need to read the releases; they write them.

I'm with the majority though, having it before an exhibition game is worthless.

so.... did one of your sources write that last month??:p

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Is there any way to draw an analogy from this movie clip to the 2009 NCAA Championship Game? ;)

I was just thinking "BP" could represent BU and Miami his brawny opponent. Although the music is more from the Paul Fenton era.

And, perhaps that's Mookie standing against the wall, thinking about the $100he won off two angry WCHA fans, after insisting the Terriers would come back, despite being in a hole with less than 2 minutes left.

Unless things change it is all set to raise the banners before the u18 game...

Uh-oh. All banners? They could raise the Beanpot and HE championship banners without going back on what they already released, but either way, that's awful.

I know you're an attention-whoring ******nozzle with a worthless radio show, but re-read mookie's post for what my actual point was.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

and if they're raising it at an exhibition game, why do it at the second one?

Sigh...it is all about the money. If this stays true then it just means more money for Agganis Arena and athletics. I could try and rationalize it by saying the extra money they make would go into making things run more smoothly or they could put in some small perks but I know it will not. There will continue to be confusion every year as to when tickets get released, e-mails with incorrect incorrect information, and bad promotions for games.

I know I am not going to spend 24 dollars on a ticket to watch the terriers play against the U18 team.

I honestly think there's a real chance that neither of these games will sell out. I don't think raising banners automatically means a sellout for the U18 game, and I don't think the ND name automatically means a sellout on a Tuesday night.

And it would be embarrassing to not sellout the season opener against a team that was a real national title contender when you won the national title yourselves. Agganis Arena management needs to get a clue and realize that raising the banner makes that an event that would definitely sell out. The U18 game won't. People want to come and see the banners raised before a real game. I wasn't in favor of moving it to the Michigan game because its not the opener, but that game makes ten times more sense than this because there are actual reasons there, like wanting alums that come by for that weekend to see the banner raised.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I don't get the dissing of the U18 team. I love getting to see them. Last time they visited BU you had both Victor (for BU) and Vinny (for the U18s) Saponari scoring goals (and I totalled my car on the way there and still have back pain, but I didn't skip the game).

It was a 3-2 game, not some extremely uneven contest.

(Edited to add - I understand not wanting it to be banner night, just not why people don't want to go to the game. Why aren't you going to all the home games?)

I'm pretty sure everyone who posts on here will be at both games regardless. It's the rest of the student body, alums in the area and the general public that we're talking about.

Yes, I love all home games, even the exhibitions. But we're fans that care about the line combinations, and knowing what future players and the guys that never get time can actually do on the ice. Not everyone that comes to games regularly cares so much unfortunately. And I'm not in the Boston area this year, so coming up for the U18 game wasn't something I plan on doing. It's just not a big enough draw to drive 6 hours. Banner raising against Notre Dame? I'll do it for that.

You've had a few say they won't go and plenty of dissing of it as a game. I just don't understand why people don't enjoy it. I realize it won't count in the standings, but I think they are fun.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Oh Agganis Arena administration... is there anything you can't mess up? Maybe if a bunch of angry alumni call saying they were planning on coming up for Notre Dame... oh who am I kidding.

Absolutely disgraceful.

I'm not sure what the others are thinking unless they're not season ticket holders and would be paying $50+ to see two exhibition games. I'm going to go regardless as a season ticket holder and because I want to see the team, but the casual fan is not going to show up and pay that much for essentially a scrimmage. Probably would be best to make these into those special $15 deal games they had in the past.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

This is embarrassing. Raise them prior to the first regular season game.

The only thing more embarrassing than not being able to decide when The Banners should be raised, is that someone who suggested the U18 game is allowed to speak in regards to such matters.

The U18 idea is pathetic. These things aren't done prior to exhibition games vs. high schoolers in order to make money. If this is about making money where none is going to be made, why not just raise it at Midnight Whatever and sell sponsors on the banners themselves? Why not at Parker's house on a Tuesday in June prior to a game of Parcheesi and sell the webcasting rights? Why don't we just raise it tonight on Marsh Plaza and sell tickets! Heck, that was some cash the department wasn't planning on getting! Tradition be ****ed, we need some cash!!

This should have been decided about 10 seconds after Colby's shot went in and now here we are hundreds of days later, and it's still in doubt. And the fact that this still is in dispute, speaks very poorly about the organizational skills of this athletic administration.

(And yes, I'm making sweeping generalizations and I'm totally ok with that)

I probably will not be going to the U18 game because I am no longer a student and I am not getting season tickets. I am also waiting on a job. This would mean paying 24 dollars for an exhibition game. If the banners are raised that night that does provide more incentive but not enough. I am not dissing the U18 team. I really enjoyed watching them play against the Terriers last time but I can no longer go to all the games so I need to pick and chose games where the cost is worth it. An U18 exhibition is an interesting game but not a cheer your lungs out and get pumped up game like a ND or Michigan game might be.

Unfortunately, more casual (and poor or geographically disadvantaged) fans need to be more realistic. I could get friends who are still students to get the 15 dollar tickets but I would also like to avoid the student section especially since I am not a student. It's just really unfortunate. Even aside from cost and how exciting the game might be, what better way to show you are top dogs than to raise your banners in front of a team that tend to be national contenders?
