Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I'm ok with parts of the realignment plan... I don't understand if they plan to go with division playoffs why not do a 4/5 swing as has been employed in the AHL... if the best 5th of one is better than the 4th of the other the 5th takes their spot.

I've wanted the same thing. The only drawback was that under the re-alignment plan, it wasn't possible. Unless you wanted the Sharks to slide to the Atlantic division.

It would need to be laid out like how the AHL had it. 15 teams in two conferences, 8 teams and 7 teams in two divisions in each conference.

This would solve the dilemma fans/reporters had about having four conferences.

I always thought the crossover has a fantastic quirk and gave added pressure to the fourth place team in the seven team division.

interesting. they are clearly protecting the guys ego as another W for the B's would certainly be bad news. I can understand some guys having shaky self confidence, but not at this level. Odd to say the least.

This should be a better game than people think. Bruins beat on some average teams, but Vancouver is coming around as well and will probably keep this tilt close.

If you want a good chuckle, check out the hashtag #WheresLuongo on Twitter.

A few examples:

On the phone with Kessel talking about how Boston is such a mean city.
Crying in bed and singing "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" by James Blunt to himself
Pumping Timmy's tires.
"I may be bald, but at least I'm not chicken**** like you!" #SlapShot
Skating on Frog Pond, which really means he's trying to drown himself.

Using this logic, LeBron would sit out against Dallas or the Yankees would sit A-Rod and CC when they go back to Detroit.

its terrible if they're protecting his confidence... because that'd be the ultimate "when it matters, we don't believe in you" statement.

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

Why was the Canucks' coach so bent out of shape about this game today being at 1pm? Bruins usually play Saturday afternoons starting in January. Sounds like he feels this should have been a national evening telecast, yet at the same time was saying it's just a regular season game (which it is).

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

they don't want him actually jumping off the Tobin, I see...

Whatever. Boston's seen enough Cansucsk dives so what's one more? It's not like the BPD hasn't cleaned up enough dead bodies of opposing players.

Would you believe in him?

Just checked the box score for fun-game tied 1-1, no big deal. Then I scroll down: 18 penalties in the first period, nine of which were handed out simultaneously 3:54 in. They have 72 combined penalty minutes after only 20 minutes of play. Wow.

Because it is a 10am game on TV in Vancouver?

What's with 4-5 guys jumping on Thornton and Canucks getting a 2-man advantage out of that? They can't fight so they jump on one guy. Fair fight???? Then Weise offers on Thornton and backs out from fight. Canucks deserve another beating then 'Nuck fans can riot and burn their city again. Bruins up 2-1 now on Peverly goal.

Vancouver PD requested the early start. If it was in prime time the Canucks fans might riot.

When the game is in Vancouver and starts at 10PM locally, let me know if anyone from the Bruins says anything.

Clipping? Now there's one you don't see too often.

That's a football penalty.

Seriously though, what is clipping? That looked like a regular hip check to me. What am I missing? Was it because it was against the boards?

From the NHL rulebook:

44.1 Clipping - Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent.
A player may not deliver a check in a “clipping” manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent’s knees.
An illegal “low hit” is a check that is delivered by a player or goalkeeper who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees.
44.2 Minor Penalty - A player who commits these fouls will be assessed a minor penalty for “clipping.”
44.3 Major Penalty - If an injury occurs as a result of this “clipping” check, the player must be assessed a major penalty (see 44.5).
44.4 Match Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by clipping.
44.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - A game misconduct penalty must be assessed anytime a major penalty is applied for injuring an opponent by clipping.
44.6 Fines and Suspensions – There are no specified fines or suspensions for clipping, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

Marchand would have got decked if he didn't duck. Not sure why that was a penalty, Bruins down 3-2 now with B's shorthanded still on the major. B's could lose Lucic and Marchard for penalties in game and maybe for extended period of time. Actually, they are gone for this game but hopefully not anymore.

OK back in the game, now 4-3 Canucks. Kreijci on the goal.

Hey Scarlet, is the city still standing? Any riots break out? Cars on fire?
