Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

If they finish close to .500 it would be considered huge success compared to the other teams that are in this town.

Didn't we predict the Wild to finish 6th in the conference, or so? Just bad enough to miss home ice?

Eff hockey, and this working full-time thing sucks - no whiskey for me. I'm calling it a night.

Yeah, we did.

I saw that the young Wild defensemen that I worried about ended up not being much of a problem, since they posted a shutout. Though, I'm guessing that it had much more to do with Backstrom than with the defense.

The defense was good. Backstrom was awesome. Colorado is also snake bit right now.

I was not surprised to see Giguere out there instead of Varlamov, given our history against the former.

We need the offense to step it up, and we need Zanon back. Backstrom and Harding will not keep up the .940+ save percentage stuff forever.

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

Colorado has two regulation wins in their last 47 games vs. Western Conference opposition.

Snake-bit is a nice word.

That Yakupov-Ovechkin combo is going to be a pain in the *** to the Eastern Conference.

My bad, 3 regulation wins. 2 OT wins, and 5 shootout wins. I'm still stunned that a team that was as bad as they were in 2011 traded their #1 pick for a goaltender.

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I'm trying to think of a logical realignment for the NHL and I'm convinced that you cannot possibly do it without at least one or two glaring gaffes.

Add two expansion teams in the west, and we MIGHT be able to settle this into four logical divisions of eight, but even that sucks.

If they could get Phoenix sold and kept in town for a dozen years, they could probably just shove all 16 ETZ teams into the east and have uneven conferences. They move to Quebec City, though, and you're at 17 and it's a no go.

Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I am not optimistic that the realignment will not continue to 'screw' the Wild by aligning them with wc teams.

Babcock after Vlasic's goal the other night.

Given that Vlasic's average 17 points a season the last two years, it's understandable since he had 4 freaking points.

17 EST teams. Detroit and Columbus both have rightful claims to being in the eastern conference.

To say nothing of the argument you could make for Nashville to take Atlanta's place in the SE.

16. Winnipeg is in the East right now and will be coming West regardless of whatever else gets decided.

Why couldn't this work?

No conferences, seeds 1-5 are the division winners, 6-16 follow based on points.
